Prospect Info: 2025 Draft discussion

Center or RW if Pens finish say top 8. Mabe with lottery luck move up but happy with a good RH center or RW. pens have Broz next year with Sid and Glass. Malkin who knows. But a trade that gives the Pens 2 picks in the top 15 or higher I like RW RS with size. Pens added RD last year and I see center and RW as the areas of want this year.

I still think they're gonna rally and go on a weird heater, only to fall short again.
I don't think they have the gumption in them to run off an 8 to 10 game heater.

They are without Geno and Rust, and they are going to trade guys soon. They will be inherently worse in coming weeks of biblical proportions.

I mean, a heater could mean 4 to 5 games for this team, I guess.

Petts moved and then the real sale starts. Dubas to me will listen on Rust, Karlsson and possibly Rakell. the question is who thinks these players will be one of the pieces to go for a run. Ottawa knows Eric and has to make the playoffs and 2 years of him is not a killer. Rust for some reason I always thought Detroit close to his home and wings under some real heat to make a run as well. Both can give up 1st round picks to get in the mix. for better or worse, Sullivan will be back so Dubas has to build a roster Sullivan has to play.

Think we will end up around 10th, hopefully it’s closer to the top 5.

I am thinking Jackson Smith is someone I’d be thrilled to take around 10OA. Hard to see why he’s not going to end up as a top 5 pick though. Hopefully he has a bad U18 or the board falls our way with him.

Jake O’Brien is interesting.

Brady Martin def feels like a Wes Clark -ish OHL pick.

I like Cullen Potter a lot but idk if he’s more than a speedy up & down middle 6er.

As for Hagens, I saw a lot of Jack Hughes in his game at the WJC. Smaller, but quick and really good with the puck when it comes to playmaking or shooting. Don't know if he'll ever be Jack Hughes' level, but the way he plays reminds me a lot of watching Hughes with the Devils.

Sure feels the most Penguins outcome, doesn't it.

Caleb Desnoyers would make a great choice as well if he was available in that position. He's got a terrific skillset and a mature body frame to go along with it. If he wasn't playing in a watered-down league like the QMJHL (or whatever they call it now), he'd get more recognition.

If they somehow were to acquire a mid first-rounder for this season, Kashawn Aitcheson would be an awesome selection. He plays with a ton of moxie. The type of guy that could impact a game by making a massive hit or scoring a timely goal.

Carolina gets EK65 for a 2nd and a bad prospect at 50%. He proceeds to randomly put up 70-80 pts there.

I just hope we don't end up taking some project with skating issues. I can already sense that somehow we'll end up with McQueen.

McGroarty's skating issues are concerning enough I don't need another prospect to worry about that with.

Agree on Desnoyers but man that league scares me.

I really like Desnoyers from what I've read, but like I said a few pages ago I'm curious about the upside he has. I'm not sure he has good 1C offensive upside, but he seems like a guy that will be a really good 2-way top-6 center. He gives me Couturier vibes.

He's a guy I'd love if they're drafting in like the 8-10 range, but above that I'm hoping for someone with a bit higher of an upside.

Seems like he will be our choice if he’s available just given the relative safety of the pick.

I think one thing we should look at when considering who the Penguins will select is understanding Dubas' MO which is that he's trying to compete again asap.

Given that, I imagine the Penguins will be selecting who they perceive to be the closest to being NHL ready as a prospect.

Yeah, I mean that would be stupid…highest ceiling in combination with highest hockey IQ is what they should be going after in round one…goal is to find high end players since ours are currently over the hill lol

They should take BPA but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to take a guy who they perceive as being NHL ready or close.

Ideally they win the lottery in which case the BPA and the "guy close to NHL ready" tend to be the same thing

That’s what I saw too. I keep thinking these smaller Americans will get crushed at the higher level but both Hughes’ manage to avoid traffic and hits just fine and Hagens looks the same. They just have that elite quickness and find the openings.

That said he does look like a play-driver but not a carry-you-on-his-back type but few are.

I dunno Hughes has f***ed up his shoulder several times. He's good at avoiding contact but the few times he's gotten into a bad spot he's tended to get injured.

Hughes is also an interesting case given how badly he struggled his first season or two in the league. He's become dominant since then but it's weird that it took him two seasons to get there.

18 year old took two years to develop “that’s weird” is the most Penguins take of all time. 95% of prospects work that way, my brother.

I don’t think you’re wrong per se but it’s also such a weird organizational delusion.
