2025 DRAFT Discussion

This could be the rare case where we are equally excited at drafting a player... don't mess this up, Wings.

I'm 50/50 between him and Eklund as my favorite and it's a coin toss for which I'd select. I see a world where Bear is a more successful NHLer faster because of his size, though. Both have about the same potential as that top 6, likely top tier 2nd line winger or a good top line support winger that pots 50-60 points a year.

Bear is definitely safer of the two, and I think that he's at worst going to become a Tyler Bertuzzi that knows how to play defense. Or a David Perron with wheels. That's a pretty good outcome at 13.

In the second round I like the idea of Nestrasil. Hes the brother of Red Wings legend Andrej Nestrasil

So many big tree defansman that could skate will be available in second and third , so I hope we get forward at first. If Bear or Eklund not there, I d trade down to get get. Reschny, Zonnon, Cootes or Lakovic.
If they desire to get defansman in first I only like Mrtka or Hensler
I hope top 12 will be Smith , Atchison and Martin

Surprised he came in at 39 on Bob’s final list, bc I had been hearing a lot of late round 1 buzz on him.

Would be fine with taking him or Horcoff’s son if he is there in round 2.

Also think Vanek’s son is pretty interesting later in the draft. I think HP gave him a 8.5 skating grade out of 9.

I’m almost certain now that Aitcheson will be gone before 13, and I think the player we are going to take will be obvious in hindsight.

When it comes to 13# I think it will be Carbonneau. With a dark horse being smith. If aitcheson is there at 13 though it will be him, he’s such a red wing type prospect. I’m pretty sure it will be one of those 3 though.

I just base that off who is likely to be there, and who are Detroit type picks.

As for our 2nd round pick, I’d love to try and trade up for fiddler using our second and some of the prospect pool we have now. if he’s there at the end of the 1st like bobs list has him, It’s a long shot but if you walk away with carbonneau and fiddler you gotta be really happy.

Honestly I really disagree. I really don't believe in the top 10 of this draft and would rather not spend assets on it. They're all fine. We'll probably get a good prospect. But I think that the guy drafted 15 has a really similar career outlook to the guy drafted 5. If we can't trade the pick, I'd probably be most excited about a reach for someone that I'm not too familiar with.

Well we’ll have to agree to disagree cause I don’t think you’ll get a similar player at 15 over someone at 5 unless it’s a mcqueen and his back issues are a thing if the past.

Desnoyers down the middle would help us immensely.... anyways don’t worry it’s not happening lol we don’t have the assets to willingly give up and no current roster player of value to deal to move up

Bunch of them took Nesbitt to mtl and one at 12 .... Nesbitt was a top pick of mine but backed off now I’m thinking I wouldn’t hate it again especially if we believe in danielson. Don’t agree with everything button says but saw his mock draft and said Nesbitt will be a nightmare to play against and compares him to lundell with less offense although he can produce

If danielson becomes a 2c and Kasper moves to the wing Nesbitt becomes a playoff nightmare for teams I’m all for it ... all depends who’s there and drops to 13 if mcqueen is there I’m taking the risk but pens with back to back picks will take him for sure
