Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I wouldn't mind seeing this 1st round draft pick used as part of a package to land a decent player that'll help us now.

100%. Needs to be a youngish player to fit the core and who is giving up anything good for #13 in this draft. It feels like a lot of teams will have cap space to play with and not a ton of reason to give up young talent. Teams with cap space will be willing to take vets with high salaries after striking out in UFA. Pipe dream but it would be great to see Yzerman keep the pick for the prospect pool and somehow land a big fish in free agency.
My worry is:notice on the weigh in chart that both lakovic n carbo have grown since earlier weigh ins . both over 200 and still growing , both with offensive talent and good skating . that formula of size / skating / scoring is a rock solid gamble to me . smith another one still growing . thats my top 3 . too worried about bears injury
Is Justin Carbonneau too much of a reach at 13?
Why are you so worried about Bear's injury? He's skating again already. My worry is:
Lakovic says he wants to be a PF.
Carbonneau could be one, but has tunnel vision.
Smith recognizes his faults, and still makes huge errors.
Bear's injury. I get it. Not sold on him either.

Where Detroit is picking is a tough spot.
I'm not worried about the injury. Why are you so worried about Bear's injury? He's skating again already.
I'd say middle 6.I'm not worried about the injury.
The three guys I listed before him had problems.
He just had an injury.
Reason not being sold...
Top 6 guy or bottom 6 guy?
Any target's?
I like Rossi, hes already better than I thought he would be at the draft. I dont like the idea of Rossi, Debrincat, Kane, Raymond all in the top 6 with Larkin and Kasper also not being monsters at 6'1.Im not educated enough to really know who's available around the league besides pure speculation.... Rossi is small but talented. If the Wild do want to move on from him, maybe you can get him on a nice deal to play with his fellow Austrian in Kasper? His age would fit the group perfectly but the small/skilled ratio would need to be heavily counter balanced by some actual talent and grit in the rest of the line up.
Agreed, has an underrated shot and his compete level makes him look like a mini-razor out there. There's not a chance of hell this organization passes up on Eklund if he's there when we're picking.
Someone gets bumped to the third line.I like Rossi, hes already better than I thought he would be at the draft. I dont like the idea of Rossi, Debrincat, Kane, Raymond all in the top 6 with Larkin and Kasper also not being monsters at 6'1.
This team isn't going to out skill teams to wins, they need some size and attitude in the top 6.
same goes for the draft , dont want any small bodied forwards no matter how much offense theyre producing in teenage leagues . nhl an entire different universe . thats why in this draft at 13th im for guys with size n skates = two very important features in a fast physical league for survival , and lako n carbo also have offensive talent . two players that might end up at 210lb , vs others in the 13th zone that are going to be around 180 = 30lbs on an nhl rink mattersSomeone gets bumped to the third line.
I'd still lean towards getting Danielson/Lombardi into the lineup than spending resources on a guy like Rossi (or Ehlers), though. Add MBN to that. Add Buch. We have a lot of fowards who project out as top9 guys. Which, really, is what Rossi, Ehlers, etc. are. They aren't bad, but they aren't great. We have plenty of vets right now to insulate kids with, get them into the lineup if we can't land a Marner level guy.
I am with you. While watching the game last night I had one thought run continuously through my head: where are all the small "skilled" guys that fans are always pining for? It made me think of Reschny for some reason. There is a lot of danger with recency bias, but I still question just how many of these small, undersized forwards we can actually roster at once.Someone gets bumped to the third line.

Hell no. I think he comes with some real risk and is definitely a project, but I would absolutely consider him at 13, especially considering the other options that will be available. He and Bear are two of my favorite forward options (it becomes skating versus smarts as between the two). I would like Carbonneau even more if he ends up committing to BC for next year.Is Justin Carbonneau too much of a reach at 13?

Konecny if Philly wants to really tank for McKenna. Same age group as Larkin and Cat, i doubt that there is younger talent available. Well Rossi was mentioned but wasn't the word on the street that Minny wants a roster player. Konecny probably isn't available but it doesn't make sense for any team to trade top tier 22-24 year olds. And Konecny has NMC, if he was available is he even interested. 8,75 cap hit, he will have takers elsewhere.Any target's?
I think the worry is, if it gets torned again. It got torned once, so most likely it's not strong as it was before. But im pretty sure they have consulted experts in the medical field. Why are you so worried about Bear's injury? He's skating again already.
We need those vets to be leaders, not passengers. If Tarasenko, Ras, Compher could step up, then yes bring kids if not they need to get replacedSomeone gets bumped to the third line.

Agreed. A mix of sizes is fine if players are stepping up and playing with reasonable production and intensity. But dead weight of any build is still dead weight. We need those vets to be leaders, not passengers. If Tarasenko, Ras, Compher could step up, then yes bring kids if not they need to get replaced
My expectation they already know who they want and just get him at 13.If we take at 13 someone we invision being a 3rd Liner I’d rather trade back and get a 2nd and just take like a gastrin/Nesbitt and then try and package up the 75/76 to move up for another 2nd
Then just leave with 2 of west/ryabkin/zharovsky/wang/Nilson/prokhorov/ekberg/Moore
Maybe even better get two 2nds and end up with 3 2nds? It’ll never happen but pick 13 to mtl for 16&49 then 16 to flyers for 22& 40 .... then we have 22-40-44-49 ... anyways I’d rather trade up or pick 13 if someone we really like is there but if it’s gonna be another bottom 6 guy might as well. Been hearing on podcasts bear maybe even getting picked now that his injury isn’t as serious as ppl thought
I’ll be way off...

think smith has bigger upside but if we don’t make a move for a big Dman for the top 4 aitcheson would be my target there. We need to add guys like him on this team
If we traded back to 16 we would get one of aitcheson-smith-carbonneau-lakovic-reschny
If the draft went that way I’d trade up with ducks and try and land McQueen. Just take a big swing and whatever happens happens. I’d be even tempted to make a move for hagens with sabres but 5’11 c? Unless we plan to move larkin to wing in 3 yrs and going Kasper hagens down the middle .... don’t see it . McQueen though if he drops 3-4 spots before us and he’s still there I’m trading up.
Dead weight need to get replaced with kidsAgreed. A mix of sizes is fine if players are stepping up and playing with reasonable production and intensity. But dead weight of any build is still dead weight.

Once he fills out a little bit more he will be a 2nd line/60pt guy who can make an impact on the PK imo.
There's clearly some disagreement around the scouting community about Nesbitt. EP has him at #48, Pronman has him at #15.
