2025 DRAFT Discussion

Only Eklund or Mrtka will make my day if available of course. Rest is ok I guess. If those 2: not available id trade down to get extra early second. There are plenty good prospects in that range.

I would put him in that 2nd tier of players behind Misa and Schaefer. But still have a couple from that tier I would prefer.
Are you really high on him?

So would you have him like 3/4/5?

Good to know. I respect the boldness. Really haven’t had a good chance to watch most of these kids :(

What are the odds we trade up for McQueen ? If they think his injury status isn’t as serious as others, and if he’s there at let’s say 9, they could definitely trade up for him using their 2nd and maybe a prospect. McQueen has serious boom or bust potential and I’d personally be okay with it.

Trade up for the riskiest pick in the draft? None. Par fractures are no joke. When McQueen came back he didn't look great and then left injured. Again.

I like what I saw of him his first 10 or so games of the season. I don't like what I saw after he came back.

Yes. I think he’ll have no problems producing offensively in the NHL. His shot, vision and instincts are great. The motor, edge and defensive game seems to be overshadowing the above.

I would have him 5-7. Can’t say for sure as I haven’t seen the Swedes. 5th NA behind Martone and O’Brien.

So he got injured again? I thought he played in the playoffs. Was it his back again?

Truly bizarre to bring Franzen into the convo, who was very good at using his size.

Their point was when Mantha put it all together for a few shifts he was really good. Otherwise, he was totally frustrating. At least with a guy like Cole Reschny, he put up 35 more points and just turned 18, while Lakovic will turn 19 this calendar year.

Reschny: 1.48 PPG as a 17yo for most of the season (April birthday)
Lakovic 1.23 PPG as an 18yo who doesn't use his enormous size advantage n juniors

Also Lakovic isn't described has having much hockey IQ. I get that everyone is hoping he turns into Tage Thompson, but Thompson is the exception, not the most likely outcome.
Reschny's team scored twice as many goals this year as Lakovic's. That has to be taken into account when just doing a ppg comparison.

I'll take a closer look at both before the draft, but Reschny was given big roles both in the CHL at Victoria and with team Canada. So there's a lot of data to suggest he's got the skill to back up those point totals.

He had to take some games off after returning. He didn’t play in game 4 and 5. He scored game 1 but no other points in the series. Brandon lost 4-1 against Lethbridge.

I don’t know what the injury was.

If Reschny is as skilled as you’re suggesting, then why isn’t he ranked higher?

Button is the only person I know who has him ranked in the top 15, and he has him #13. Just about everyone else has him late teens or 20’s.

If I was gong to consider trading up, it would probably be for Eklund or O’Brien. But I’m not sure it would be worth it.

Maybe if Hagens starts to slide that would be the one scenario I think it could be worthwhile to really consider it.

Things about Reschny , he is not showing everything he has until playoffs. He was great at playoffs and also his last couple of games for Canada. When it's matter the most , he is stepping up and during the season he is just more of skills and smarts.

Small and not fast. There’s a chance he’s being undervalued. I’ve said as much myself, but I’m going to take a closer look.

I will say I just saw he’s going to North Dakota next year and I like that for his development a lot.

I had a really good first impression from watching him at the Hlinka. But a lot of people I trust have said he’s not as dynamic as you might think from just looking at his point totals.

He will be an interesting one to see where he gets picked. Let me know what you think once you get a chance to watch him play more.

NESBITT GOTTA GOOD RIGHT

morreale n kimmelman got him going before 13 .
wingwheelpod all like him but rate him later in 1st round

skinny right now but if he beefs up to 220 at 6'4'' look out

So he’ll be heavier and still suck at skating?

If Nesbitt was the wings pick I’d very seriously consider switching allegiances to Anaheim. That is an unserious pick at 13, or at 20.

yzerman has over n over emphasized boy scout culture , he wants a team of hard working clean cut players . my and others guess is walman didnt fit the culture so yzerman wanted him gone so bad he made a dumb trade . and when i read of floating issues , though that could be weak motor issue , of certain prospects im now counting them out even if like them cuz yzerrman not gonna draft them

one player i initially really liked , but then backed off after finding others , is jack smith . mcqueens my current fave as ceiling is star level high , though i doubt hes there at 13 . but smiths now my safe pick because of size n skating that are sure things which makes odds he becomes an nhler higher . and i doubt martins there , and bear injury lessens my enthusiasm . but i doubt jackson there either lol

JACKSON / SEIDER
EDVINSSON / PELLIKKA
I’d take meanness, toughness, and players with a chippy edge over Boy Scout culture.

i know , you know every thing and how every player turns out and kimmelman n morreale know nothing . but some how morreale has 60k followers at twitter , while kimmelman is followed by dreger/lebrun/shannahan/tsn hockey/hockey reference/elite prospects/easton hockey/etc

Watched a mock draft on a French channel the guy took Jackson smith from the redwings and from what he heard some ppl here like him

Wouldn’t surprise me and unless some forward is there we just can’t pass up on I do think we’ll pick a defensemen . Unless someone else emerges pellikka and johansson are the only dmen from the last 3 drafts we have

Aitcheson being a year older makes me weary but I think I’d prefer him cause we need more meanness but smith has more upside I think. Anyways maybe a McQueen or eklund actually falls? We’ll see

Believe in development. Bob has Nesbitt at 23rd and Bob also had Mo at 16th, Wings took him at 6th. Difference is the same, when Wings take Nesbitt at 13th.

They spend a lot of time on it, Brad in particular does. I have listened to them for years and while I certainly disagree with takes, their hockey knowledge isn’t really in question for me.
They know hockey but I take their prospect stuff with a big grain of salt. Theres poeple on here I trust way more
A base or floor of Konecny should go top 3 in this draft easily.
A floor of Konecny probably goes number 1. A point per gameish, good all around player with a mean streak and one of the biggest pests in the league? Easily in the running for 1st
