2025 DRAFT Discussion

We have MBN, I think we have everything, but nothing great, that is the problem. Seider is Pronger slight , Raymond is Marner slight, ASP is Makar slight. Martin is no Tom Wilson and never be one.
Draper is building team with higher flour and it might work or we going to be Like Nashville

Seider has outdone what Pronger did point wise so far in his career. Different eras sure, but when offence picked up, Pronger wasn't exactly awesome offensively. Seider is not far off defensively in my opinion.

The irony of a guy claiming the Athletic is garbage, but posting an overview of the contents of the entire article including rankings is really something else. The fact it provides zero context for the entire purpose of the article is the chef's kiss.

What irony? The article was paywalled — I posted a breakdown so others wouldn’t have to waste time or money on mid-tier content.

I didn’t twist the message or misrepresent anything. I literally did everyone a favor by sharing the meat without the subscription nonsense.

So instead of reaching for some "gotcha," maybe just say thanks. You're welcome.

I am just saying that we have good young players, but probably not superstars , but you never know. If Plante gets much faster , we might have something there. I don't see Buchelnikov higher than second line wing, he is already elite skater and I don't really see him improving much, could say same about Lombardi. Danielson - we will be lucky if he becomes Filppula type of center. MBN is not line driver, but very good support player.
We should take big guy , who could skate good and that's mean one of Smith, Hensler, Lakovic or Aitcheson

Just saw this report:

Marco D'Amico
@mndamico

Told that 2025 NHL Draft prospect Carter Bear only suffered a partial laceration of his Achilles tendon, which his medical team believes is fully healed. He's begun to skate, but won't participate in the NHL Combine testing as a precaution. Expected to be ready for Dev Camp.
Yeah they're expecting him at the world junior summer show case now. I doubt he's even there when the wings pick but you never know. He doesn't have "stand out" traits, but he's just a good hockey player. I would be running up there at 13 for him pretty much

I was going to say he stands out at being good at hockey.

It’s a minor standout trait, but his backhand looks Crosby/Kane/zetterberg-esque. Being able to pick a corner with a backhand can make someone scary to defend.

Also elite hockey sense and motor are standout traits. That’s the most lethal combo in hockey. The players that I’ve admired the most are guys that competed harder than and outworked their opponents, and out-thought their opponents.

I think there’s a very good chance that Bear is as good a player as Seth Jarvis. Maybe even better.

ide not looked at bear because of achilles . but member comments here made me , and now i love this guy . a hustling 200' all in animal with motor n iq galore , plus ruggedness . guy is captain material was my thought after watching interveiw too

More Seth Jarvis comps in there. The first video mentioned Hagel as well. We’d kill to have either on this team right now.

He doesn't need to be either to be a really strong NHLer. For the record I will never understand the Jarvis comp. It strikes me as super lazy, but hey, they were both forwards from the WHL...

I really don’t think it’s lazy. Jarvis is a player from a recent draft (2020) that played the game in a similar way to Bear in the WHL.

Similarities: skating speed, work ethic/motor, defensive ability, ability to speed up or slow down the play in the offensive zone, solid passing ability, funneling offense toward the net in a pro way, two-way play, and both elevate whichever line they’re on. Very, very high end hockey IQ for both players.

I think Bear is more physical and a little larger than Jarvis. Jarvis had a better shot than Bear at the same age.

The tendencies in Jarvis’ game screamed successful future pro (to me, at least.) and I see a ton of those same tendencies in Bear’s game.

If I’m looking for other recent draft comparables I have to squint my eyes to see a good one.
