2025 DRAFT Discussion

I fully expect to move future 1sts as well over the next 5 or 6 years (and perhaps beyond).
Sure if we’re in a cup window I don’t mind doing that. Think I’d also like to add in a mix of dealing 1sts for younger players who are on the outs with teams that can help rather than simply only ufa’s So we don’t have to do another 10 yr rebuild

You have issues with Mrtka's skating? That is the one thing I fell reasonably comfortable with.

It’s ok. Very good for a giraffe. I have problem with the ‘skates well for his size’ comment. Like I said last page, it’s another way of saying he’s just average as a skater.

I mean, this defense would be one of the best in the league.

Edvinsson - Seider
Gavrikov - ASP
X - Mrtka

Every guy would be capable of playing 20-25 minutes. Three of them would be capable of 50+ points per season. Gavrikov, Seider and Mrtka would greatly improve the PK.

We would only need one of Johansson^2, Buium, Wallinder or Brady Cleveland to hit as our 6th defender.

Using a 13th overall pick on a 3rd pair D makes me want to vomit.

Because Martin is very likely gone and teams in the top 10 will lean heavily into centers I think Detroit’s best most likely options are…

Eklund - I expect a Benson-like slide due to size. He’s legit though. Notice Frondell couldn’t get shit done at the U18s without him? And Benson is the guy I think I’d compare him to most. He’s got solid game management and puck protection skills and a real knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Bear - the Achilles injury will scare many but this kid is a pitbull with skill. I think he’s a Cole Sillinger at worst. At best a Seth Jarvis? We could all be happy with that.

Aitcheson - I’m still hoping he’s available and ready to cause carnage from our blue line. The offense won’t be there at the next level to the same degree as it is in junior. He’s got the makings of a nasty 3/4/5 defender. I can see him moonlight at forward a bit like Byfuglien because of his crash and bang style. A lot of people see Trouba in his game.

Carbonneau - I think there’s good but not great skill here. Good but not great compete. Lots of junior level tendencies and lots of future growing pains. He could become a good 25-25-50 winger.

Trade the pick to the flyers for both later picks in the first . Use one and trade for romanov in a deal.

Use the other pick on nesbitt/murtagh/gastrin

The skill and shot with Carbonneau are better than most in this draft… IMO.

Detroit gets 2OV

San Jose gets Detroits 13th from this year

To Detroit- 2OV

To San Jose- 2025 first round pick
2026 first round pick
Nate Danielson
no shot SJ does this lol

they have no need for extra picks. they have 2 top 6 Cs already in Smith and Celebrini, and Misa is more likely to be a successful C at the NHL level than Danielson is. Another top scorer like Misa is exactly what they need.

Smith-Celebrini-Chernysov
Musty-Misa-Eklund

Great top 6.

I think with his solid skating for his size and reach he could become tough to play against.

I just was expecting to see something be more dynamic between the: puck skills, shot, skating.

Stay at home guy that will be too high on my board for most by the end of this, Blake Fiddler. I have the Wallinder, Guhle, Carlo feelings when I watch him play.

I don’t think he is realistic at our pick but he looks like a project D with a ton of tools and upside. Even if he won’t be an offensive stud, pretty big fan of what I have seen.

Could be a guy the Wings are higher on than we expect.

Haven’t made any attempts to watch him. I know he’s very young for this draft but he has the size and pedigree the Wings like.

How is his skating?

I think his shot is his best tool but I also think Carbonneau gets tunnel vision from the stuff I’ve seen. That might hold him back.
Yeah. Good skill, not the best IQ. Tries to do a lot by himself. I think that might get better as he plays with better players, but a very fair knock.

I like it in terms of my viewing, I think he is a strong skater and is getting better at it. Skating is usually a pretty big one for me. He needs to improve his first step, but I don't see anything mechanically that is an issue and I think he will be a good player. Good second pairing RD, so like we have been saying with Mrtka maybe not what we are going for.
