2025 DRAFT Discussion

McQueen is the one that makes me nervous. It's starting to sound like he's already got a very serious back/spinal/neck injury. Like, yeah, he's really tall, but that's just a major roadblock to a career as any kind of pro athlete. Let alone what it could mean for his overall upside.

Besides, he's always just looked so raw to me. Losing so much development time is a big deal for that sort of player.

Islanders lmfao this is why we dont win useless games at the end

We deserved this lmao larkin should have stfu and lost at the end if he wanted good players soon lmao

Those wins at the end of the season turned out to be all worth it lmao

What a coincidence though the year where teams slotted with no chance to win finally wins is the year where the draft is crap lol ... coincidence

Can kiss mckenna goodbye next yr that's reserved for the bottom of the barrel

Sharks likely getting misa at 2 now to go with celebrini eklund Smith musty
Maybe we can get halttunen for the futures lmao

Man how has Grier done a better job of the rebuild than yzerman. Pisses me off to think all those years we sucked and could have ate salary to get 1sts and 2nds and all we had to show for it was a 2nd for Marc staal lmao

Bitched to get the Monahan, marleau deal etc... meanwhile Grier is getting free 2nds and flipping that asset for another 1st and flipping granlund somehow for another 1st etc.. lmao

Cant imagine where the rebuild would be if we added more assets in our dumpster yrs besides staal

I know lots of people hate Mrtka, but I can see a case for him if all of the gritty guys and all the skilled guys in what is expected to be a shallow draft pool are gone by the time we pick. We don't need Mrtka to be a top pairing guy since we have Mo and Ed. He would be perfectly fine as a second pairing guy who can eat up lots of time 5v5 and on the PK.

Our right side would be a real strength with Mo, Mrtka and ASP.
I think Mrtka doesn't get any love because right handed D is a major strength in Detroits system right now. At 13, if they end up taking him, having a 6'6 right handed D is far from the worst thing.

I prefer a few others over him but I find myself not really falling in love with anyone in this draft, but feeling okay with several. If they hold onto the pick, I'm going to be very wait and see on the selection. I like Martin, Aitcheson and McQueen the most probably as realistic guys where the wings pick but would not be upset with Bear at all either.

Picking lower in the draft and with Detroits needs, f*** it, take the risk on a couple of the guys who would have went top 8 or so in McQueen/Bear

Too early and I'll be way off

Nyi- schaefer
Sj - misa
Chi - martone
Utah - desnoyers
Nsh- frondell
Phil- hagens
Bos- o'Brien
Sea - mrtka
Buff - eklund
ana - smith
Pitt - martin
Nyr - McQueen

Probably leaves us with aitcheson bear Spence carbonneau or a seider type we dont see in the ballpark nesbitt/gastrin??

At that moment if the draft turns out like that I'd try and trade up a few spots if we can with the ducks to get martin

Trade the pick back, get a 2nd and deal the 1st for a romanov etc..

Just take a gamble and go with bear and hope it pays off

Year guys like lakovic I think could have a lot of upside but you’re taking a big risk. I think it’s a lot more likely the FO takes a safer route. I don’t think this draft is the type of draft we should be going for a high risk high reward player.
It’s exactly the type of draft we should be doing it. We have plenty of guys in the system that will be middle 6 guys. If it’s me I’m swinging for the fences or better yet trading it for immediate help
