2025 DRAFT Discussion

Oh, anything is on the board for a trade.

Filip Forsberg would be amazing on Larkin's wing. Best player on that line. ROR would cost a 2nd or 3rd+ B/C level prospect. If Detroit can get both? That's a huge boost to this team. Leadership, defense, AND scoring. 1st + 3rd + Compher?
Nashville will want more.

Nashville will want more.

Nashville can kick rocks. ROR is mid 30s. Forsberg is early 30s. They're in full tank mode whether or not Trotz wants to believe it. They got 68 points on the year with Josi, Forsberg, Stamkos, Marchesseault, Nyquist, Skjej, and Saros. They've got at minimum 4 years in the tank because their prospects coming up are on par with Detroit's 6th to 10th best prospects.

Well then.

Nashville will still want more. They're not giving up Forsberg in his prime for that.

Lmao Forsberg will be 31 this summer is anyone 100% certain he'll be a Crosby and still productive at 37-38 he can be finished in 3-4 yrs ... chance of winning a cup in that time frame is slim to none

Np trading that 1st but has to be for someone 26 and under

And just checked and hes a ufa in 3 years. Giving up the 12th pick for him is nonsensical

Where did they lead Nashville? Trading a 1st for two expensive players on the wrong side of 30 would get me in the pitchfork brigade... I might consider it if their 1st (unprotected) is involved. Not ours going the other way.

That's where I disagree. There were lots of 1sts and 2nds traded at the deadline. There are also going to be at least 5 teams in true contention for McKenna; Chicago, San Jose, Boston (if Swayman continues to play bad) Shitsburgh, and Philadelphia. I can see an argument for Buffalo and Nashville being in that discussion.

Let's look at those teams as options because I can see a real race to the bottom. Who do they have that would be beneficial and cost picks?

Konecny and Peterka on wing. Byram on D. Ryan O'Reilly for 2/3C? Is Lafreniere worth a shot as a reclamation project?
Yeah, but at the deadline you are usually moving wasting assets. It is very much a use it or lose it situation. I would love Konecny, Peterka or Byram but don't see our first as the corner piece for any of those players.

Being able to grab that unicorn young, impact guy for a deal around a high pick and probably a prospect isn't likely to happen. At the same time, people want Yzerman to add impact players, but not ones that cost too much, are too old, or have red hair (I don't know about the red hair one, but I suspect it).

There's a couple of guys expected in our pick range I would like to see us grab, but I don't think Forsberg is a bad add, either, if the biggest price is that pick. I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm more okay with a move like this if Yzerman makes other moves like fixing our blueline a bit to go with it. But Forsberg by himself won't move the needle much, and I'm fine with the draft/develop/promote thing. I don't think we're far off from being a team that could go on a run, though.
