2025 DRAFT Discussion

Say Detroit gets the 1st overall:

Who do you take?
Misa personally. Firstly I think he and Schaefer are very close. I understand why Schaefer is seen as the better prospect, a defenseman like him is somewhat more unique than a forward like Misa. Either is a little disappointing at 1st OA. So I'm going with need.

We have a huge need at forward whereas our future defense is pretty well established (we need a second pairing LD with AlJo as an established NHL D that could fill that spot and a ton of prospects to potentially fill it should we fail to do so).

Raymond and Kasper are our only established long term top 6 forward pieces. Who knows how long Larkin will last on the top line making him more of a middle term piece. Debrincat is a middle term piece. Danielson, Soderblom, Berggren, Mazur, Buch and Lombardi are all possible solutions there, but I don't see a future top 6 that's competitive with those pieces.

I am with you. The difference between Schafer and Misa isn't so great that we can't afford to take the position of need. That said, Misa is the only forward prospect I would take over Schafer. I like our chances of improving our defense outside of the draft. I don't like our prospects of improving our center depth outside of the draft.

OHL coaches polls released yesterday.
O’Brien definitely earned a lot of respect for a 17 year old.

Voted #1 - Smartest player (East)
Voted #2 - Best playmaker (East)
Voted #2 - Best stickhandler (East)

Ritchie beat him out in both categories he finished #2. Ritchie is 2.5 years older.

I have a feeling he is going to ‘Beckett Sennecke’ his way up the draft board this year.

Center with decent size, great hands and super high IQ? I can see him going between 4 and 8.

Martone seems to have lost a lot of momentum as the year went on. I was previously bullish on him but I think he’s outside my top 6 now.

Hagens was consistent but didn’t ever flash that there was much more than we’ve already seen. I think he goes between #3 and #6 now. He might fall due to size and the perceived lack of a clutch gear.

Yup and we collected useless pts to get the 9th ... just noticed the bruins are suddenly 4th they’re doing things the right way . Drafts isn’t as good but that’s what needs to happen this year.
That’s what I don’t get with anything Yzerman has done. What the hell is the point of just standing pat at the deadline and hoping, best case scenario, you sneak in to the post season and lose in rd 1

Or “worst” case Sanrio, you’re still too good to bottom out and end up with players like Danielson instead of Leonard or Demidov

Boston did it right and sold off all their pieces. Sens also did it right and actually improved their team

Now we’ll lose both players and better picks and for what, exactly?

I really like Carbonneau. Can maneuver in tight space and has a really good scoring touch. Not sure we'll be picking any better than 11th so I think he's a good option

The first 16 positions in the 2025 NHL Draft will be determined on either May 5 or May 6, TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston reports.

The draft lottery date will be finalized based the playoff schedule, Johnston clarified on Early Trading Tuesday.

"Among the changes in effect since 2022 is a limit on the total number of selections (10) a team participating in the draft lottery can 'move up' in the event it wins one of the lottery draws. Thus, only the top 11 seeds will be eligible to receive the first overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft," the league's release last year said. "The odds for the remaining teams will increase on a proportionate basis for the second lottery draw, based on which team wins the first lottery draw."

Based on the standings entering play Tuesday, the teams with the top 12 odds in the lottery hold their own draft pick. The New York Rangers would currently be 13th in the lottery odds and have top-13 protection on the 2025 first-round pick that is now property of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Vancouver Canucks acquired the pick from the Rangers as part of their return of J.T. Miller, with Vancouver flipping it to Pittsburgh the same day in a trade for Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor.

The Montreal Canadiens also own the Calgary Flames' first-round pick, which is top-10 protected as a result of the 2022 trade that sent Sean Monahan to Montreal.

TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button once again had Erie Otters defenceman Matthew Schaefer atop his 2025 draft rankings Tuesday, with Michael Misa rising to take over at No. 2. View his top 64 players for June's draft here.

O'brien is the player i was crushing on the most, dont like this idea of his draft stock going up.
Same . I just want a player what top line potential I’m tired of this safe crap. We should lose next 7-8 games and try and get the 6-7 pick and with any luck we end up with pick 1 or 2 for once and get misa or schaeffer

If not maybe we get lucky and get a desnoyers or someone at 6 ... if not I’m more than happy with O’Brien at 9-10 , I’ll be checkin out more the kids soon but like I said we need to take a gamble on a guy who can be a point producer. Not a “sure” nhler but he ends up getting 40-50 pts

I will not be complaining if we get Lakovic, tall, good hands , skates similar to Danielson , not physical , but could play puck possession game

just got done with my first brady martin study :
BAM , THIS GUY IS A PLAYER ! i see smarts / ruggedness / talent in a center .
so far ive got jackson - carbenou - martin - hensler . but i wouldnt doubt
martin could become my highest rated in the 11th pick area
