2025 DRAFT Discussion

Usually I just draft, maybe a small deal or two.

But, I figured why not make some moves, speed up the re-build. Lots of posters want to see change, I tried within the hand I was dealt.

Plus, it's a mock draft with trades. Kinda fun.

EDIT: Who's Metal. Mrtka? Good nickname...

Who are you thinking?

Usually there is always teams reaching for a dman or two in the top10. If that happens and we stay in the same spot, there is a possibility to grab McQueen or Eklund. Cannot pass that up. I think Bear, O'Brien and Martin beat out every dman as well.

Mrtka is going top 10.

He's big and he puts up points.

Jackson Smith will also be gone before the late teens, someone will draft based on positional need and grab him.

agree. Could see Aitcheson also going top 15 easily. This happens it seems like every year (well except last year when it was stacked on D) ... "there's only 1 top D" .. and then 3 go in the top 10 somehow.

I would be good with any of Mrtka, Smith, or Aitcheson. As far as defenseman goes.

For forward, I do like a bunch of options. I just like some better than others. If a run of forwards goes where the guys I Iike all get plucked I would be OK with taking 1 of the 3 above defenseman. So it depends on how the draft plays out. I am guessing the forwards I like substantially more than the defenseman might be gone by the time we pick.

For example I think Bear/Martin vs Smith/Aitcheson is like a coin flip for me. I could go either way with that and be fine.

Never would have thought Dobson or Dickinson would go outside the top 10... but somehow they did.

I get you were having fun with it. I just think sometimes you need to quit while you are ahead. Like just stop at getting Kiiskanen, don't also give Walman away with a pick... y'know?

Didnt watch him much since his JR team was trash and if I was watching there game it was always to watch a kid on the other team.

I hope he gets drafted. He's seems like a decently mobile kid who tried to be physical. As a puck mover he's more hit and miss.

There's a lot of intriguing mid to late round RHD swedish d man that I'd like us to take a chance on one of them.

I'd add Linus Funk who is my fav sleeper RHD pick and has a generational name. Big shot, skinny kid. Always seemed to be in and around the play. Watched a lot of the kid cause I wanted to catch Jakob ihs Wozniak as much as possible.

Theo Hallquisth Orebro has the next big time Swedish offensive d man in Axel Elofsson who is draft eligible next year. So might have took a little bit of shine off of Theo.


Karl Annborn isnt a sleeper I expect him to be a late first early 2nd rounder still going to include him.

If Eklund is available when Detroit picks that’s a huge win, IMO. I don’t think he’ll be a superstar, but a very good support winger that can play anywhere in the top 9 and contribute.

He displays a lot more of his dad’s gritty traits than William, but I don’t think he’s as talented as William. 40-60 point utility guy, depending on where he’s used. Still a good pick. The player he most reminds me of is a scrappier version of Otto Stennberg.

But screw that, I say let’s do more “nepo picks”.

I was cool with drafting Jiri Fischer’s son, Jeff Finley’s son, and Keith Primeau’s son.
