2025 DRAFT Discussion

What do you think the high end and low end outcomes are for O’Brien?
High-end would be a really good 2nd line center, bottom end is bottom six winger or AAAA guy. There is risk there for sure given the current state of his skating. You also need to be comfortable that he is going to be able to get much stronger and put on sufficient muscle mass. I don't think there is so much skill there that he is a sure-fire top-six forward but I do see the potential return as very, very enticing. People will extrapolate skill from production and probably be disappointed. In my eyes he is very much a swing for the fence pick (even though he isn't a small Euro).

But like I have said before, you can't draft too many centers.

Was it true that Holland was very high on Seider as well? (Wouldn't surprise me, considering he probably got a lot of info from the scouts before he left for the Oilers and Yzerman came in).

Pretty accurate, I think. But I do believe that his vision and passing is high-end. The issue (once again) that I see is that there'll be a prototypical Yzerman player in Brady Martin sitting right there when we're on the clock. Intangibles, 200ft beast, great off the puck, high motor, great 3C as floor (I can already hear some of us groan and faint xD). What to do, what to do, what to do?^^

I think Kindel is like Cristall in that he’s not getting drafted nearly as high as people on here think he will be.
To a certain degree I agree with you, but I still think he probably goes late in the 1st. He is far less flawed than Cristall was as a draft eligible.

There was some speculation that Holland wanted him as well which is why Detroit didn't trade back. I have no idea if it was actually true or not.

Some players having productive seasons who might be interesting options in rounds 2-3:

I like what I’ve read about Kindel. Maybe not as a 10th overall, but he might become that generic 2nd line scorer kind of player. 20-30-50.

What makes you think he’ll fall to late first or second round territory?

Size/skating combo. We see guys like him who put up a bunch of points fall every year for similar reasons. NHL teams are more risk averse to these types of players than a lot of folks on here are. He was 25th on Bob Mckenzie's January ranking, despite the crazy production.

I know zero about most of the 2025 picks so I'm not calling for anyone in particular but I really think this is the year the Wings need to go for the most boom forward they can. (Ideally multiple in the first few rounds)I don't see the point in using another high pick on a dman or goalie (I'd trade back if they were the only options). I'm anti goalies in the 1st round period, but I don't see the point into putting more high draft capital into defense. With Seider, Ed, Aljo, ASP, Buium, Antjo, Wallinder they should be able to figure out a long term top 6 and that's acting like we won't bring someone in from the outside.

I want an offensive center, a PF winger, or a sniper. We've got a great two-way core in the works we need someone besides Ray to be an offensive stud long term. If that means taking a riskier skill guy I'm for it. Find someone and development them.

What don't you like about Brady Martin?
I like almost everything about him - 2inches more would be nice - and I think his upside is almost as high as O'Brien's. In terms of overall value Martin likely beats out O'Brien imo. I see him as Lundell-esque. But I think that a large portion of the fanbase will be up in arms again, if a higher ceiling player (just in terms of point production) is being passed up once again. And I actually do not know, where I stand on that this yr. I was someone very much in favor of Benson over Danielson for example, but I have since adjusted my opinion. I think Martin-O'Brien is a similar discussion - tho Benson has more upside than O'Brien: Do you swing for the fences or do you go with an almost sure thing in Martin. I think both players do not project to be better than 2nd liners. I personally lean Martin.

Then this draft is tailor made for you, my friend. :D It is super forward heavy. The best goalie seems like a late 1st rounder at best. The dmen after #1 Schaefer are all very meh and should be stayed away from. The earliest I think you can justify the 2nd dman off the board is in the late teens.

I would disagree with that. I actually think it’s possible depending on how the board breaks I might like a defenseman better than the forward options.
I wouldn't say no to taking a defensemen. There is a very good chance that whoever we pick is moved before ever putting on a sweater. We aren't filling immediate needs with this draft class.

In a mock:

Traded Berggren for Hague
Traded Compher, Rasmussen, Plante, 43 for Malkin, 71
Traded Carter Bear(11th) and Tuomisto for Romanov

I will be very happy if we get Mrtka. Top 4 potential
I would be happy with any of Metal, Smith, or Aitcheson.

Just draft Bear and trade for Hague and call it a day. No clue why we are doing that other stuff.
