I am not there just yet, but I agree that Suzuki is a strong example. We do have a lot of flexibility from a draft perspective. I am also guessing that whoever we take this year is as likely to be traded as he is to play for the Wings at this point. Around 15 I might start thinking about him, but not around 10. Ask me after the U18s and my answer may change. I do think this class gets pretty bland in the middle of the first round.
That's fair. Again, I just wanted to put Reschny's name out there.

I think at this early stage my preference would be Eklund if we are drafting 5-9 and Carbonneau if we are drafting 10-15.

Will be curious to see where everyone is at on Bob's mid-season list, I am guessing that is coming out soon. It usually comes out after the WJC.

Anyone heard of or seen this kid play? Guessing no cause its quebec junior league. Theres a French podcast guy I listen to and he said if the habs drafted him hed be the habs #1c in 2-3 years and he doesnt care what the nhl does with their lists but hes #3 on his

Habs article mentioning desnoyers take

He has crazy takes sometimes lol seen trevor Connelly a bunch and was obsessed with him last season and musty the year prior

but he also had makar#1 his draft year and some others I cant recall now. Drafts are always a crapshoot but if he thinks this kid can be a 1c in 3 years guess I'll have to look out for him and maybe watch a game or 2

I actually like him a lot. I have not had much of a chance to watch the players in this class, but from the little I have seen combined with what I have read/heard from others on him, I would be really excited if we had the opportunity to pick him.

I have also been following Carbonneau since his -1 season and think pretty highly of him as well.

I do not believe they are related. I was trying to find some info to share and I saw someone comp him to Brock Boeser, and I think that works pretty well.

I think that general quality of player. Stylistically I think he plays with more pace and is a much better skater. Maybe that makes him a little less cerebral than Boeser?

Ya checked hes not guys kid lol ... he looks good. McKenzie didnt have him ranked? Didnt see it on eliteprospects

Always weary of players coming from quebec juniors cause the competition isn't as good. If that can make a possible steal around 10 I'd be up for it

Gonna have to look up these 2 more

Yes, i have heard of him and disscussed a bit too. And i have seen him play, i've seen him LIVE twice at the U18 Worlds last spring. Went through my phone and found couple pics of him, number 25 in the distance

between #12 and goalie.

I didn't find him in any action shots. Unfortunately.

Like i said earlier Desnoyers sure has Red Wings written all over him but Wings would need the pick be around 6-8OA to get him. Few reports from Q that i read, left a imagine that Desnoyer could be leading scorer in the league but he is defensively so responsible that it won't happen. Very intriguing prospect, first Q prospect in years that is this intriguing.

Think he goes that high ??? Usually Quebec junior kids dont and I seen him higher on some lists. Gonna have to look into him and others more

Hopefully one of these kids with top 6 upside will be there for us

Pick the guy with the highest upside, the time has come for homerun swings. We're already pretty deep at forward in the pipeline, our top 3 on defense is pretty much set and we have two stud goaltending prospects. Drafting high floor players has it's place of course, and I think it's been a sound plan in the case of Kasper, Danielson and MBN, but we need to start putting the chips in the middle. Teams really gain an edge when they have young, high level talent on cheap deals and that is exactly the type of bet I'd like to see this team take more often.

I literally haven't looked into this class at all beyond the top few, but I think that's going to be underlying philosophy once this draft comes into focus.

Outside of the top 8-10 picks I don’t think that will be this draft. 2025 is not super deep. I’d argue it reminds me more of some of the weaker forward drafts. (2012, 2017, 2018, 2022)

If the wings can draft a Tuch or Boldy level winger in the teens this year I’ll be absolutely shocked. I’m not excited about a lot of this year’s first round.

Then this a prime pick to move for a player of that caliber then given where I expect us to fall if the current uptick continues to some extent (borderline playoffs).

Personally, if we are picking around 14-16 again, then we should trade our pick to improve our roster next year. I don’t think adding a middle of the road prospect will do anything to move the needle for this team. Making a trade for just an example Rasmus Anderson would go a lot farther. If the pick gets you someone like that that should be what the wings do. If we finish lower than 14 then keep the pick.

Decided to keep my draft simulator stuff in the draft thread this year, I won't create an individual thread unless suggested.

My sim is now up to date with central scouting's 2025 midterm rankings: Link to the simulator

@HoweFan it's finally here!
