Does he skate well enough at his size? I would have a hard time taking him over Eklund and I am not sure the ceiling is that much higher. For the record I am fine with Eklund but not dying to take him either at this point.
more along the lines of his players listed. I personally like eklund at 5. He’s a bulldog out there to go along with his high skill. I love reschnys playmaking

I would probably agree with your assessment that those two guys have similar upside and Eklund deserves to be picked higher.

I just think Reschny is a name worth throwing out there based on what he did at the Hlinka paired with what he’s done in the W putting up about an assist a game. I think he probably makes more sense if we are picking 10-15, but I think he has the type of upside where you could look really smart in a few years. Similar to what the Rangers did with drafting Perreault.

Guess we will see where we end up.

I don't understand this comparison at all, unless you are looking for an OHL player that went outside of the top of the 1st round. Luchenko's game is all about pace, skating and anticipation. Unless you have a high-end skater, he falls apart as a comparable. I don't even consider skating a strength of O'Brien's game, although I don't see it as an issue. Maybe Cootes is a better representation of this type of player.

Now oddly enough, for someone as bearish as hell on this class (outside of the top 5), I actually have time for O'Brien and probably won't mind him if we end up somewhere around ten.

I see some similarities; Both are pass-first playmaker, not shy about going to the tough areas of the ice. Great stick skills, creative passing in tight. They're about equal defensively.
Luchenko is a harder worker and definitely hustles more, but I don't think he's a much superior skater to O'Brien from what I've seen. O'Brien is a bit flashier though I think Luchenko can make similar plays.

Both guys look like they could be 20 goal, 40+ assist playmaking centers to me.

Don't expect to draft top 5. After all hopes we got with new coach, we should draft at teens
Our defense is still horsesh*t unless yzerman makes changes

Probably end up 8-10 unless yzerman does what he should... teams will stop taking us lightly when they see us winning. Cant see us getting 13-15 again

Guys like Tarasenko or Rasmussen or both could go other way to acquire good defenseman, meanwhile there is a evaluation now who should stay and who should go

No ones giving us good dmen for those guys especially tarasenko come on

I couldn't care less about evaluations of players on the current team. We need to see soderblom wallinder tuomisto mazur etc... to see who's on the wings next season. These guys are getting up in age

Most likely Mazur, I hope Elmer and one between Danielson and Lombardi. We don't have anyone on defense, only ASP and probably in 2 years

I agree likely good odds next season we'll see mazur danielson asp. Lombardi will play another year cause he missed so much time due to injury

Elmer still a question mark. I wouldn't mind tuomisto as a 7/8. Willander will be 23 I think tuomisto and elmer 24 ... we need to see how these kids handle the nhl

Hanas is likely gone for sure in the off season but I wouldn't mind giving him a game or 2.If they cant cut it we need to cut them loose and move on with becher and new kids in g.r

What's the point of drafting these players till 23-24 and never giving them a look? I know fans are excited over last games but this is a lost season. No one in they're right mind would look at our overall defense and think we'll go 13-7 next 20 and be playoff contenders

Collect assets and move guys . Play the kids

This new coach bump has me forgetting about the draft already, but was just going to echo that Eklund has moved up draft boards in this tournament, while Martone has done nothing to solidify his status. He's a draft eligible player so take it with a grain of salt but he wasn't great in the tourney.

I would still take him top 4 for sure, but I could see depending how the season plays out the rest of the way, Eklund could be the physical pest who gets drafted first. The door is open for him. Over a point per game in the world j's in your draft year is nothing to shake a stick at

eklund will be 19 in October, could be wrong but cant imagine anyone taking him before Schaeffer who's a full year younger and doing what hes doing

Yeah Schaefer might go first overall so I don't disagree with you.

I don't think at the top of the draft like that NHL teams care about age as much as fans think though either

I think Hagens and Schaefer are equal right now. It will depend on team needs as to who goes first. Martone didn’t do anything to help himself and is slipping a bit. I think Eklund and Misa are slightly ahead of him now. Desnoyers comes next. Frondel and McQueen are in the mix for the next spots but both seem to be slipping. One from indifferent play and the other from a back injury that is concerning. I’m putting Spence up there in the top ten because Ogee likes him. I put Mrtka up there to round out the top 10 just because of his size if nothing else.

Maybe ... heard a guy on a podcast say hes concerned about martone cause hes a year older and so much bigger than the other kids that hes worried if his game will translate to the NHL or if he'll be a bottom 6 guy

Cant say I'd disagree with that. Unfortunately the draft is always a crapshoot

Forgot to mention also William Horcoff got early enrolled at Michigan and he played his first game at Wrigley and he got a goal and an assist.

Wouldnt suprise me if reached for him in the 2nd rd. Kid is huge.
