If we finish 5 from bottom it's 44% we draft at 6. The worst scenario 14% we draft at 7 and 17% we draft top 2

Does it feel like we will inevitably end up at outside of the Top 5 and end up taking Anton Frondell?

"Arguably the top European prospect available, Frondell is a prototypical Swedish center. He’s a responsible, two-way player with untapped offensive potential. He has decent, but not ideal size, and that is probably a bigger knock against him than it should be. His IQ and ability to read the game trumps any other worries teams might have"

"Frondell is a complete 200-foot player who has no discernable weaknesses in his toolkit and can play both down the middle and on the wing"

"...Frondell's game is very detail-oriented. He understands how to work his way out of a puck battle along the boards or position himself away from the puck to give his teammates options. He also seems to know what to do with the puck before getting it.

Frondell is a tactician offensively, which he uses to make reads and intuitive plays to his advantage defensively."

Sounds like a Red Wings pick already: Swedish, Smart, Undersized, Questionable offensive upside, 200ft, detailed-oriented"

Frondell has looked like the most mid top 10 rated pick I’ve seen in the past 5 or 6 drafts. I really don’t like him as a top 10 guy and hope Detroit avoids him.

Yeah according to Pronman, scouts still love him, but I'm increasingly not a fan of him. and McQueen scares me with his back.

Ideally it's one of the clear top 3 O players (Hagens, Martone, Misa) but if not, Desnoyers and Eklund are appealing.

With McQueen and Frondell it's all about injuries and not enough playing time this year to know how much they've improved. They get passed in some rankings by the guys who are playing but let's see where they are at in March..

In December of his draft year, I should have accepted that we were guaranteed to pick Kasper. But I fought it. "We took Raymond, we'll take a swing for the fences" I said to myself.

In December of his draft year, I should have accepted that we were guaranteed to pick Danielson. I fought it. "We took Raymond and we already have Kasper, we'll take a swing for the fences" I lied to myself.

In December of his draft year, I accepted that we were guaranteed to take MBN. I didn't fight it. I didn't lie to myself.

It's December and I'm here to tell you that we are guaranteed to pick Frondell. It's better to just accept it.

If the Wings hypothetically are 4th, I really really doubt they take Frondell. You're acting like there were surefire studs the Wings could have taken at those spots.

I’m 3/3 in the last 3 drafts where I said we’d take Kasper at 8, Danielson at 9 if Leonard wasn’t available, and MBN if he were available. I don’t see Frondell as a wings pick unless we’re middle of the first. THIS kid screams 3rd liner to me.

Aside from being Swedish I don’t see any appeal to Frondell. Not a top tier skater, shooter or playmaker. Not top tier grit, size or intangibles. Not top tier IQ. Danielson and Kasper each had at least 4 of the 7 traits I listed.

The Wings are trending toward a top 6 pick and I see about 10 forwards I like better than Frondell for that spot. I’m focusing my attention on them more.

Frondell makes me a little uncomfortable but when you look at the other Swedes we have taken in round 1 I would not be too mad if that was the route they thought was best.

I haven’t had a chance to watch him play this year but I’ve heard he has good tools to work with. He sounds similar to Lundell, who I was a fan of in that draft class.

Think getting a top 3 pick and getting one of Schaeffer misa hagens and avoiding the urge for yzerman to take the Swede would be the scenario we need ... dont know why but im wary of martone

Anyone know much about this kid? Put up #'s as a 16 year old ,only turns 18 in june and already 6'3 . Will definetly have to look him up more

I’d take him as low as #6. The kid’s hands are top notch.

Broken collarbone.
Probably out a couple months.
Awful for the kid. Right in the middle of his draft year and you know he would have been pumped for this tourny.

i just got back from the future and i'm here to report that, "with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 nhl entry draft, the detroit red wings select, from the erie otters, matthew schaefer"

Zero chance that he drops to #10 because of a broken collarbone. That is one of the least concerning injury as far as a hockey player is concerned. Bones heal, ligaments don't, and soft tissue injuries are something in between due to scarring. Bones actually wind up stronger after they heal.

Was gonna say that Schaefer was not only consider the top D in the draft but legit Top 3 talent etc. I have a hard time seeing him drop out of the Top 5.

The mandate here is take whoever you think has the best chance to be an impact 1st line star. Period. That’s the one thing this core misses and can change the trajectory of everything. Think it’s Hagens ar 5’10 and you have another Hughes? Do it. Think we have a better shot with Martone and he’s going to be perrenial 40g scoring stud? Done. Hell, if every one of the Swedish division of the Wings from Hakan to Lids say Frondell is Backstrom 2.0 - freakin take him. Don’t care which guy it is as long as he’s taken with the expectation he’s a 1st line stud

If we manage to be lucky and get like #4-5 both Frondell and Martone look like beasts and I like them both better than Ryabkin.

Havent watched Spence and McQueen at all so cant comment on them.

For later on in the draft I have my eyes on Fiddler (D) and Brady Martin (F)

i know, but he was trending towards 1oa and now i have a hard time seeing that happen. i think now he could slip as low as 5

didn't he have a major injury last year too?
