HF Habs: 2025 Draft Combine

And then you're going to get people who actually had a whole regiment planned this summer forgetting something or making a mistake, making a false negative because it's a bad question.

Most people lie (or half-truths) in interviews.
if someone who trains every day, and wants to be a professional athlete - then forgetting what they are doing will get them from 1st round to 2nd pretty darned quickly. IQ - plays a big roll in this.

You simply cannot fake if you are on a workout regiment - either you are or aren't.

What do you do when the response is "Oh I go to Gary Roberts training school and then follow the program he sets for me"

That's extremely naive of you.

great, how much are you benching, what are your reps? If they do infact go to Gary Roberts training they need to know how each weight training program targets different regions and muscles... If Im interviewing a kid who can't articulate what they do - then they are either liars or really daft.. either way I pass.

Whether someone is taking their offseason training seriously or not they can probably easily tell you how much they bench because even the laziest players are still going to the gym and working out.

so in the world of fitness (kinesiology), you're telling me that any idiot can just fake it? I think the combine proves if they are liars or not.

We're not talking about the combine physical results, we're talking about interviews.

People fake interviews in every domain. In fact, I'd even say over 99% of interviews aren't 100% truthful.

That is the reason why teams ask weird ass questions because no brainer questions like training regimen can be prepared for.

It's also why the weird questions aren't about giving the "right" answer it's about explaining yourself and your thought process, and it's that thought process that is being evaluated.

The beginning of the second round has just become interesting, just looking at that sheet in the link you've offered!!

There's a whole bunch of players I would like in the first round as a Habs fan, but, strategically, I would try to convert my second round picks, my earliest second round pick and my two earliest 3rd round picks, or a 2ndr round pick from this year and a second round pick from next year into a late first rounder.

My targets would be Nesbitt, one of Hensler or Fiddler and Ryabkin.

I know I'm passing over Carter Bear and Justin Carbonneau, but those three make more sense to me, even though I love the two players I would be passing over if ever they are still available at 16th and 17th.

How one GM saw Nick Suzuki at the draft combine, you can say you completely whiffed

I see it now only as evidence a guy’s healthy or not. It has little correlation with ability to play hockey. Proof is seeing players throughout the years crushing a whole combine becoming borderline pros. Also Mario Lemieux couldn’t bench 155 points once at the combine and would smoke cigarettes between exercises.

It is not so much about the answer but more about how the person being interviewed handles pressure when confronted with something unexpected. The answer can provide some valuable information in itself but it is not the main focus. This type of question can also provide enough of a jolt to knock the interviewee out of any rehearsed performance and provide a conversation more reflective of their true self.
