Lol, nothing wrong with it. But I agree with the other poster that they would rephrase the question to force you to answer for that scenario.

I just find it funny when people try to find any possible way to avoid having to deal with the moral themes of the trolley problem or the Habs draft Q.

Which is a good thing, too, so you can come clean and then answer coldly.

But like I said there isn't a right/wrong answer, I think what you want to see is the player ask questions like is this in the offseason, regular season, playoffs? Was there a curfew that was being broken? Was this the first time something like this happened or is it a pattern and shows that it's a real problem?

There is no right/wrong answer because there are good and bad no matter what you do. It's about the reasoning you use, if the answer is no because he's the C that's not good reasoning, but if the answer is no because if you rat out Suzuki it would cause internal strife and you think it's a better idea to get some teammates together and handle it amongst the players without management getting involved that's a better reason.

Exactly. Obviously Marty knows the player was there. Does he know whether Suzuki was? if not and the inbterviewee avoided him at the casino then say they didn't see him and talk to him about it in private.

Trick questions are also part of hiring in the business world.

I was asked by an owner "what would you say if i walked in and fired an employee". My response was "why are you firing an employee when its my responsibility?"

He was taken by suprise because everybody else answered it was his company and he can do as he pleases. I wss hired and stayed with them for 5 years.

Upon reflection its a pretty good trick question.

If the prospect said he would answer honestly then they lack the smarts to figure out that they implicated themselves to the same issue.

The best answer is to deflect the question by saying i wouldn't know because i don't gamble.

So Habs management is playing a bit of dirty pool...

Hopefully we draft the right player because of ability as opposed to ignoring a kid that just happens to answer the wrong thing this one time.

I can see this trick question in a job where IQ makes a difference but to ask and trap an 18 year old is, to put it kindly....STUPID.

90% of players who make it resort to canned answers when interviewed. It's not like we expect them to head peace talks in the middle east.

It is done to understand their personality IQ. This allows the team to separate the good human from the bad. In a team where competition is a thing, you don't want to risk the team's chemistry due to a stupid a-hole. Also, from the psychological standpoint, this helps to build a real connection with the human and the person with whom you will create a strong bond.
