NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th

The draft was on WBZ and IIRC, I broke things when Harry called his name. After all the issues with Orr's and Park's knees, I wanted no part of Kluzak. Nothing personal, just didn't want a d-man with bad knees, and for once I was right. Well, there was that other time when I said that Ryan Leaf would be a better NFL QB than Peyton Manning. Sure got that one right. ;-)

Who is everyone’s dark horse choice? Who do you think is going to perform unexpectedly well beyond expectations

My darkhorse choice is no choice at all, trade the damn pick unless someone really falls to us, we need help NOW not in 3-5 years ...

More than likely the BPA at 7 will be O'Brien, and if he is passed up for "typical Bruin" Brady Martin I won't be thrilled. Take the guy with the perceived higher offensive upside with the better shot to be a top 6 NHL'er IMO. For me it would be between Eklund and JOB, Rome wasn't built in a day so I am not taking a center to just take a center.

It’s impossible to gauge which prospects will be the best out of each draft. If you look back at every draft and do a redraft the top ten change dramatically most of the time.

Well that’s a little tmi. Lol.

But Martin was already projected as a mid first in a draft that after the top 4-6 there wasn’t much separation among the other projected first rounders. So what do you do ignore what Martin did at the U/18, where was clearly Canadas best player?
I think that would be pretty foolhardy in a not to rich of a draft.

McQueen I’m not touching this early, not taking a tall lengthy forward with back worries when there’s players like Eklund, Martin JOB, and maybe Desnoyers or a Martone sitting there.

There is no way to know for sure who is the best draft pick. We all have our favourites. I doubt any of us are scouts. We are just having some fun after an atrocious season.

To be fair even scouts don’t always get it right. The drafts a crap shoot.

Sweeney 2 weeks ago sounded like he was referring to Eklund in a convo about the draft

Lindholm & Zacha are good centers and they have Mittlestadt; they drafted or traded for 4 other centers all 22 or under: Poitras, Letourneau, Minton, and Locmelis

If Frondell or Desnoyers slip to 7 I would think you go there

JOB is very interesting and no complaints from me because he seems legit and so if they want a C

Eklund though looks real deal and I see as a bigger stronger defensively answer to Cole Caufield or Alex DeBrincat.

Brady Martin can not possibly be a center rocking defenseman deep or being first man in on the forecheck

I watched Desnoyers last night against Rimouski and he was like Bergeron calculating and how covered the ice - Brady Martin hi lights look like Dick Butkus with healthy knees patrolling sideline to sideline

He would have been a blast to draft 15th in 2015 but just seems we need an SUV for the fam not a sports car

I won’t complain if they draft him because the fun factor is there and I’d assume he will end up a 2L winger - but I’m picking today with just the stuff I’ve read and seen for Bruins

I think Im pretty aligned with your thinking, though I do put more of a premium on the center position. Zacha Lindholm and Middlestadt are at best #2 centers, and as 1-2-3, they are NHL lousy IMO. That said if the centers are gone and you love Eklunds offense over JOB or whomever is left, so be it.

I still feel confident at least one of the boards assumed top 5 is gonna be there at 7. It happens every year.

But I hope we both agree…McQueen is a nightmare selection.

I agree with your general point but Martin does everything else very well so idk what there's not to like. Fabbri's also not a good example as he had his career derailed by serious injuries but I'm sure there are good examples out there. I'd rather they pick Eklund or O'Brien because I think they have higher potential offensively but I'll be fine with Martin if he's the pick. He's nothing like Senyshyn at all. I believe Dom doesn't think he's a reach and I put more stock into his opinion than Mackenzie's or Central Scouting.

Martin is a blue collar player. He doesn't take a shift off. Make a great Bruin.

You’d consider a 2nd and an as yet failed prospect? Generous. If the Rangers offered a 2nd and a 22 year old prospect that has failed to crack their line-up and managed 34pts in 52 AHL games in his 3rd year, would you move back to pick at 12?

First off, I think it's a little premature to call him a failed prospect. Secondly, it's just semantics. Point being I could see the bruins and sharks being good partners in this. It's just a matter of what would it take?. Feel free to offer up what you think it might take and if we would have the assets to do it.

It's funny, we're all disappointed that the bruins didn't move up and actually moved back two spots. But honestly, when you think about it, it's quite possible the best player in the draft or one of them might fall to them and they wouldn't have picked him had they been drafting earlier. It really does seem to me that there will be two or three excellent choices still available to them no matter how you look at it. It will be a tough decision whoever it is.

Frondell is not Krejci type at all. Desnoyers, and O’Brien are the closest to him. Frondell is a bigger size Pasta who loves to rip shots from everywhere on the ice.

That's true what they need now and that would be nice, but you still have to go with the best player. If Martone drops or Eklund projects as a better NHL'er, you take the winger. Maybe O'Brien or Frondell is the best player at the time. Who knows. The Prospect pool is so thin, can't get fixated on position.

Good shift by shift of Eklund. Long video but I like watching full shift as opposed to highlights. You can see how good of a skater he is and he scored 3 goals all different ways. Tip, rip and lucky bounce. Willing to throw the body but it’s obvious he needs to get bigger and stronger. He was used in the bumper position on the PP and looked good there always moving and shifting for a shot.

You know who else is a similarly good comp? William Eklund in San Jose. His brother.

The guy who scored almost 60 points as a 22 year old and hasn't reached his full potential. Oh and Viktor might actually be a higher regarded.

Projections and Comparisons​

The two players that come to mind when watching Victor Eklund are William Eklund(San Jose Sharks) and Jesper Bratt (New Jersey Devils). With William, the comparisons are apparent. As siblings, they play very similar styles of games, with Victor potentially having more of a scoring touch. Bratt, on the other hand, is a fast, skilled winger with top-end vision, scoring ability, and relentless energy. All traits that Eklund possesses.

I think mcqueen is bostons guy. Only true home run pick left at 7 everyone else screams middle 6 to me. Mcqueen is potential top line. Also will take 5 years to be ready and sweeney loves taking projects so we can’t complain about the pick until years have gone by, and by then people will be mad that we are complaining about a pick from years ago. Its a cant lose situation
