The only thing NHL media likes more than a farm boy is Bruce Springsteen.
I haven’t chased down everything about the farm background but it depends on how they farm there land heck even the type of cows or if it is even cows, do they round bale only etc..

I will say tho if you haven’t worked on a farm you probably shouldn’t comment it’s not like a job it’s a way of life and it can take over your whole childhood.

Well that's just silly without context.

If the habs are willing to be bent over backwards, we bend them. It's not like Desnoyers is Mario.

If the Habs do something dumb to get their French Canadien guy like create some kind of massive mish mash of guys including Demidov AND picks, obviously we accept. They want their local hero very badly.

Kent Hughes is a very smart hockey mine . Montreal is a well established organization . They are going to make what they feel are good hockey moves . Not jeopardize there hockey club because Desnoyers is French Canadian . That is silly talk

Based on the Martin chatter here (and out in the draftnik sphere as well), it seems many think GRIT and body checking translates the best lol.
There's way more posters here shitting on Martin then saying we should pick him but carry on with your narrative. It's hilarious how as you soon heard Martin is physical you just decided he has no skill which is another completely false narrative. Dom even said he's a top ten talent but nope he's just a hitter in your mind.

I’m thinking that this farm boy has more than just the media liking him

This is only good news for us. If someone likes him enough to take in the top 5 or 6, then a good player drops into our lap. Just like Desnoyers, many really like him, and he could go top 5, meaning somebody good drops to us.

It is NOT crazy to think that Hagens could drop to 7. Likely, no, but not farfetched.

After Schaefer and Misa, if Martin and Desnoyers go in the top 6, then 2 of the following will be available at 7: Hagens, Martone, Frondell, JOB, and McQueen, and also Eklund, although I think we can do better at 7 than Eklund, although he's a good player too and many like him.

and I`ll wager 95% have never seen the kid play, I too am very intrigued by him but outside of highlight packages which only highlight his positive plays, I have zero to go on other than what I`m reading which has, unanimously been gushing over the kid

Call me crazy, but I take Martin over Frondell 10/10 times.

I believe picks 4 to 8 can go multiple ways. But I believe someone will take another defenseman in there and I think it's exciting to watch unfold.

Which ever way it falls, unless they do something stupid, they will get a very good player. I can't wait for it to play out.

I'm not worried at all about round one, again unless they do something stupid. It's what they do in round two that has me more nervous.

I’m struck by how each week leading up to the draft there are 1-2 players who trade off being darlings of the week.

A month ago Martone was a top 5 lock. Hagens wasn’t getting past Nashville. Eklund was easily ranked over O’Brien and Martin. This week O’Brien and Martin are flavors of the week.

Frondell went from “can he reach us at 7 to could he go top 2 to now maybe Desnoyers is a better choice”.

There seems no better indication that people just play follow the leader on this stuff.

I’m getting nervous they might move that pick for a more established player. That presser yesterday might have just been Sweeney keeping his options open but it smelled like they’ve had talks.

Sweeney has been overall good IMO on trades but this franchise is desperate for young talent up front. And if they think they can contend quickly and move a high pick in that effort I think they are high as a kite.

Every year we hear a GM say the same thing and then it never happens. Teams trading the pick ask for way too much.

Remember When Chiarelli said he would speak to the Oilers about swapping picks so he could draft Taylor Hall and then said the price was too high? And that was for two players everyone was even split on who was better.

Can you elaborate on

1. What would be stupid round 1
2. What players would set you off round 2?

You are one of the few, or maybe only one who doesn't change their view of a selected player because the Bruins picked him.

haha, they have 2 chances to make mistakes in round two but there is some history there of a few picks that worked out , Carlo/Lohrei so more of those and no Axel Anderson type one`s. I have seen both Mrtka and Jackson Smith play live, more Smith with their series vs the Royals this year, both will be very solid picks, I think Smith plays with more bite though, can move like the wind too.

Super stoked for the draft for the first time in quite a while, already have the calendar at home marked with two big X`s so my wife knows I will be busy :)

Did you already know that Desnoyers challenged Hughes to trade up for him? And not surprising why, it's been since Lafrenière that Quebec produced a prospect this touted.

So yes, I think it's possible for the Habs to swing for the fences on him. There's been stuff like 1, 1, 2, 2, floated to land him. Which I wouldn't accept in Sweeney's shoes. So if they want him, it's more.

You’re 100% right and I agree. But we’ve seen how Sweeney operates too…the chances he uses all of these picks in the next three years feels like zero.

Which again, is okay if he’s making quality deals. And I feel like he’s been solid in that area. But he’s still on a short leash, and I think this franchise is overrating their on-ice product. I’d love to see one more full year and draft (and ideally two) aimed at stocking up on young talent.

Round one, what would piss me off?

Taking anyone other than Hagens if he is on the board when they pick.

Taking anyone other than Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martone, O'Brien, Desnoyers, Frondell, Eklund, Martin, McQueen.

As for the rest of the draft Lou, I promise you I am putting a list of 5 players at each pick that i like personally. I will get to it late next week.

In the meantime

I've got to get this done.
