NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th III

I’d love to see your top 10-15.
Besides taking care of two grandkids, I have a lot of things on my plate.

Coming up:

I have the OHL media/scout consensus top 10 to do.

I am currently working on the Bruins prospect rankings - 30 players to do.

Am also currently working on potential Bruins picks from round 1 to 7 - potentially 40 players to cover.

Finally, I am currently working on my OHL final draft rankings.

I hope you know where you can find it all. Usually @Gee Wally posts them all here if you don't.

I have an honest question for those who know better than I. It’s not a challenge or an argument, but something to help me better understand.

Macklin Celebrini draft year:
38 games, 32 goals, 64 points

Adam Fantilli:
36 games, 30 goals, 65 points

Owen Power (defenseman):
33 games, 3 goals, 32 points

James Hagens:
37 games, 11 goals, 37 points

These are the top picks out of the same league the last five years, all top five in the draft and how Hagens stacks up statistically.

I feel like I’m missing something. It’s not that he’s scored less, but it’s by how much that I don’t understand. How is Hagens in the same conversation as these other prospects?

No one is saying Hagens approaches the overall talent of Celebrini - that kid is insane.

Power and Fantilli played in a lesser league then Hagens.

A PPG in Hockey East at his age is pretty legit.

I think it just might be the America Media. First time in awhile that Hagens is the only sure American born player to be pick in the top 20. Plus the NCAA angle. Possibly shows how weak this draft class is. (IMO)

I think that's the biggest knock on him. He hasn't been as successful as Celebrini at BU or Smith at BC. With that said, he was a PPG player as a freshman and has talent.

Someone who I recommend everyone watch if they have time are Simon St-Laurent's scouting reports on this year's draft. I don't agree with everything he says, but his analysis on players' strengths, weaknesses, and footage to support his claims in my opinion do a lot better to give fans a better understanding on each potential draft pick instead of the usual 5 minute highlight reels.

Here's what he says about Hagens:

See this is why I ask.

I don’t know the quality difference between the Big-10 and Hockey East. I would have thought they would have been ranked similarly high among their NCAA counterparts.

How would you rank the Conferences?

I agree, that's been my question with Hagens. For a guy whose main asset is skill, his 37 points is disappointing. Will Smith put up 70 as a freshman. Leonard put up 60 as a freshman. And Hagens is a 2006.

It's why I'm not sold on a clear skill gap between the 3rd pick and the 7-9 picks.

Hockey East is the best and hardest development league there is - sure it’s an opinion but it’s not really a controversial one given the depth of talent in that league.

Hagens also played with two puck dominant older players in Perrault and Leonard. Just counting points doesn’t do him justice.

We appreciate you Dom. Thanks.

1. Michael misa
2. Matthew schaefer
3. James hagens
4. Porter martone
5. Anton frondell
6. Caleb desnoyers
7. Kashawn aitcheson
8. Roger mcqueen
9. Logan hensler
10. Jake o brien
11. Brady martin
13. Victor eklund
14. Jackson smith
15. Cullen porter

Thats my big board for the top 15. I wouldnt be surprised if any of these names end up the best player from the draft. Makes the pick at 7 difficult, i also wouldnt be surprised if any of these players ended up being underwhelming
