Good read for idiots here mocking the farming angle.

Need to move up to 4 to make sure you get Martin.
No team is trading up to get Brady Martin. If they do, the GM should be fired. 68 pim and 3 fights and he is Sam Bennett (118 pim draft year) and Tom WIlson (141 pim)?

That is a good read. He will be easy to root for. The way folks describe him, the human missile sort of thing, has reminded me of 2015 or so Michael Ferland. What a marvel that was. Won’t wish Ferland’s injury fate on anyone, of course. If the Bruins get Martin, I’ll sit on my couch and root very strongly for him. But I am in the school of Bruins lack skill, Bruins need to prioritize skill, etc., etc. If Martin can bring Marchand-like competitiveness, well they need that, too, but Martin doesn’t feel like the right fit right now to me.

What would you build if the Bruins traded up to 4 to take… Brady Martin?

I don’t think it’s hard to answer. The hardest thing to acquire is elite offensive talent. It’s not a surprise so many here are drooling over Martin (or Aitcheson) but this team is bereft of top tier offensive talent. Drafting for grit in the top 10 would be so silly.
To a large extent that's true, but in this year's draft the elite talent all has question marks and varied projections. They aren't sure things. It is truly a year where a hit or a miss could be just luck so it doesn't hurt to consider character.

I’d consider character first.
That’s not the allure of Martin for people it’s GRIT and SANDPAPER level shit.

Funny how Ryan Leonard didn’t get this ballwash from the “national” media when he’s Martin who can play.

Leonard would be top-3 in this draft.

Agreed

You can get guys that are 80% of Martin in the 3rd round. Don’t waste that 7th

Yeah, the subpar u18 tournament, the late season rise of Jake O'Brien and the super playoff run by Caleb Desnoyers.

So for centers in picks 1 through 6 you have Misa, Hagens, O’Brien, Desnoyers. Maybe someone takes Martone or a second defenseman. Or McQueen. Yeah, I guess it’s plausible. I like it as a scenario for Boston.

Braeden Cootes had a better U18 than Martin, relentless work ethic, high IQ, and very versatile on the ice. Why are people not talking about him as top 7? Why did he not rise here like Martin has? Captain of his Seattle team and also captain of the U18 team. Because he isn't as "gritty"?

Schaefer def going in there Sounds like scouts think Martone is going in there. Would love to see Trotz and Briere get cute and pass Hagens and let the Bruins pounce and get the steal of the draft.

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Martone
4. Martin
5. Frondell
6. Desnoyers

would be magical.

How much do you like Hagens over Frondell? I like both.

I'd agree with that fully on Leonard.

Martin has character too though. Really strong work ethic and dedication. He's going to be like a Sutter. Just not sure which one yet.

How do you evaluate the athleticism of prospects? Brain, speed, size, quickness, agility? My hot take is that Desnoyers is not athletic enough. I’ve been dying to get a response because I want to learn, but so far no one bit. My fear is that the Bruins see French Canadian two-way detailed player = cheat code Patrice Bergeron, while Desnoyers is very smart, but also physically weak, more of a latter year Jean Ratelle. I don’t want them to take Desnoyers. His shoulders are tiny, his bones look weak, his muscles don't look long, so how can he add muscle? Maybe his hips and legs are strong? Pull ups are the funny thing now, but how do you evaluate the athleticism of prospects?

my dude, that video is literally from a multi-day league-wide event where some of the best sports scientists in the world and NHL teams are meticulously evaluating the athleticism of prospects.

no one else is thinking theyll go defense at #7? Thats my prediction.

But on the forwards i read about them all. I didnt watch any of their games but i read about all of their playing styles from a lot of sources including here on this site and ive formulated my best case scenario player comp for each of the top 10 prospects (per tankathon)

1. Matthew Schaefer- zach werenski
2. Michael misa- mat barzal
3. Porter martone- patrick hornqvist
4. Caleb desnoyers- ryan johansen
5. James hagens- matt duchene
6. Anton frondell- anze kopitar
7. Jake o brien- bo horvat
8. Jackson smith- tj brodie
9. Victor eklund- joffrey lupul
10. Roger mcqueen- corey perry

Bonus defensemen
1. Radim mrtka- Jamie oleksiak
2. Kashawn aitcheson- matt dumba
3. Logan hensler- jacob slavin
