NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th II

I've seen a bunch of comparisons on here of Martin to Cal Clutterbuck but Clutterbuck had 34 points at 17, while Martin had 72. Clutterbuck's only great season in the O was when he rode shotgun with Tavares who scored 72 goals that year. I don't watch the OHL near as much now as when Clutterbuck played but from what I've seen, read and heard Martin is far more talented. Martin could end up like Clutterbuck in the NHL but he's a way better prospect.
Anybody that compares Martin to Clutterbuck is only looking at one aspect of his game and giving a poor scouting report.

We are f'd 💩

I'm convinced our entire executive office doesn't know what to do with themselves with a first-round pick. They are either unprepared or reaching.

Pick the best available player. That's all you have to do in the first round. The entire team sucks so it's not like you don't need the player at any position.

Martin is the BPA (if he makes it to 7)

Thats the spirit, you must be a blast to watch a game with.

Ok…by whose determination? Read the draft coverage, look at the lists and the mocks, listen to the podcasts. This draft is a crapshoot after 2 (I think after 3 with Hagens but alas). They are going to pick who they think the best available player is, as is any team. Such a tired narrative.
They reached for a C last year instead best player available according to any list you want to use. Please give me 2 reputable lists that you can find that had Letourneau rated higher than Chernyshov.

(incoming deflection or goal post moving in 5...4...3..2...)

Why would I need to do that?

I’d be willing to bet the Canucks, Jackets, Canadiens, and even Detroit bite on a first for Zacha. Some of these teams have had enough draft picks in the past 3 summers that they are just looking for players. I don’t think I’d move Zacha just for futures in that range though, you’d be losing a lot of value and risking quite a bit, while also pissing Pasta off.
So you are saying about 13-16 and I think he could be gone or available at that point. If he were available I pull the trigger in a minute. Admittedly my assessment of this player may be irrational as I have fallen head over heels for the reports. But he’s not the only player I’d do this for I’ve seen in that range. So I’d have to see the board but I’m open to it depending.

This video has good information on the Bruins draft process. Nice to see Nadeau get some exposure to the fans. He offers the perspective that the Bruins are evaluating prospects for what they might contribute out as far as 10 years. They expect these youngsters won't be in Boston until they have significant development time in the organization.

I think the B's doing their diligence on Martin is smart. He's a pretty capable center who I've seen ranked around 9 on a few boards. That said, he had a pretty solid season last year and is physical, has good hands, and is a scoring threat. While I might choose differently, it depends on what's on the board and if Martin happens to be the best C standing when they pick it may be their best choice positionally.

Great video, he had lots of good things to say about Frondel, Hagens and O'Brien (he was asked about them by name).

He seems to think there's a top5 that's a cut above. I wonder who that 5 is?

Schaefer
Misa
Martone
Hagens
??? Desnoyers? Frondel? O'Brien? Martin? McQueen? Eklund?

When Martin gets a head of steam, he looks unstoppable. He weaves through the neutral zone, alternating between holding the puck deep in his hip pocket and perfectly timed pushes through sticks and feet. With a seemingly bottomless bag of tricks, he regularly makes the flashy look easy. A destructive force, Martin is a uniquely heavy and frequent hitter. He slams opponents into the wall and throws them to the ice before chasing down the next victim. He battles hard, proactively wins inside position, lands heavy reverse hits, and keeps that energy in the defensive zone. -EliteProspects 2025 NHL Draft Guide

Man that's a nice quote. This is a hard draft.

McQueen is born to be a Lightning player. Think of all the endorsements they could do . Slap 95 on his jersey and boom. It'll sell like hot cakes Roger "Lightning" McQueen. He will yell Kachow after every goal . Tampa is also a short distance away from Orlando that I'm sure Disney World will erect a statue of him in Magic Kingdom ans even give him his own roller coaster ride . He can even be the main actor in the Live Action Cars remake !

If it’s Martin they need to trade down. He barely is in the top 10 on most lists. 12-15. If you can bank another pick or picks might as well. With pick 9-10 should be fine grab a second and third pick or something. He should be there.

I don't think that's true. Redline has him at 7. Craig Button has him at 6. Daily Faceoff has him at 7. Sportnet has him at 7. The Hockey Writers final rankings has him at 6...

With opportunity like that why even play hockey?

the problem isn't that they "reach", and it's not like they're thinking, "well, we're pretty sure Kyle Connor will be better than Senyshen, but no one will see this coming..." It's not an issue of draft strategy or some sort of faulty roster construction. It's either bad scouting, or not listening to the scouts. As a group, they got together and decided that Seny was a better prospect than Barzal and Connor. That Vaak was the right move, that Beecher was the guy. Whatever process they used to reach those conclusions is the issue.

So to say "just take the best guy available" is kind of meaningless. They are already taking the guy they think is the best available.
