NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th II

God I hope he slips to 7
Yowza

Bruins though want a guy who hits the ice looking to score an all signs point to Frondell or Eklund - but Frondell apparently is the guy they are all over as a group
If he has another no-show Friday, then I'd say Desnoyers, Ders No Way.

I'll be here all week; try the veal.

They were dominant often starting 170 feet away because of who was on D ~ I was there and Lindholm & Pastrnak were carrying the puck out it the zone from above the defensive dot. The lack of puck movers was even more impressive and the Canes and Capitals had their best checkers on that line and they shredded them

The stats I thought didn’t even reflect who they were up against and who was in back of them. Pastrnak was as dominant a winger as I can recall - was trying to come up with such a complete combo shooting, passing, aggressive winger I can remember. I thought Messier with the Rangers but he’s a center and not the playmaker as Pastrnak.

Pat LaFontaine for the combo but he also was a center and Pasta played angry

I really could not get a F sounds like Maurice Richard for 62 games but never saw him play but he was a wing

Yeah Pasta was amazing. But having an entire offense based around one player... I'd feel a lot better if they had a second legit scoring line. I mean we saw that with Marchand/Bergeron/Pastrnak that DeBrusk and Krejci wasn't enough to keep the heat off. Lindholm and Geekie ain't Marchand and Bergeron and Mittlestadt and Zacha aren't Krejci and DeBrusk. Sure, Pasta can be a Crosby and make any line into a first line... but you still need Malkin and Neal or whatever.

I'd go easy on the phrase "elite linemates" for O'Brien

Lardis - 3rd round pick in his 4th OHL season. His career high prior to this seasons of 117pts was 50pts
Thomas - 4th round pick in his 4th OHL season. His career high prior to this season of 104pts was 66pts

Seems more like Lardis & Thomas boomed in big part to their age. I'm not sure if they played with O'Brien last season, but if the didn't and this was the first season they played together, that's kind of telling in favor of O'Brien.
According to what I’ve read is that O’brien mostly played with Marek Vanacker a 1st rd pick in 2024 last season and if you look at his production from last season to this season his totals fell off once he was no longer with obrien.
On YouTube I watch mark (NHL DRAFT PROS) and Linc (NEW WAVE HOCKEY) quite a bit to get draft intel on players I don’t follow as much and both of them were very high on O’Brien and actually went on to say that when they did their scouting on vanacker last draft that O’Brien was actually the one that caught their eye more as the line driver and dominant player as a D -1. I’ve seen lots of people also go out and say that O’Brien made lardis look a lot better then he actually is, it’s known lardis has a very good shot but he’s very perimeter player then it was also said without the elite passing skills O’Brien possesses and his ability to slow the game down and manipulate defenders and goalies lardis would have been more on pace for high 30 - low 40s goals like vanacker the year prior.

If this is the case with O’Brien then I hope he falls to us at 7OA, I know there is a lot of hype around Martin and his comparisons to Bennett and the recency bias around those type of guys but may I remind everyone the year bruins won the cup Krejci lead that team and with all the reports of O’Brien being the best passer in this draft, reliable 2 way and has a strong work ethic I can’t help but see a resemblance there. It’s also been made known O’Brien has a killer wrister but like Krejci always defers from shooting. O’Brien had 33 goals in 98 shots that is pretty insane at any level of hockey so hopefully bruins could encourage him to shoot more, could be just a confidence issue.

Either way bruins need to go with a higher ceiling high skill player. Martone/ O’Brien/ Eklund all have top line potential and if all works out could be a great #2 to pasta. If Martin or Bear fall to like 13 then I’d be all in for making a trade for another 1st to select one of them.

I really wonder if it’s Martone that falls. Aside from Chicago, who could also use a center, everyone needs a center. I wouldn’t hate it.
Utah is the one I don’t see passing on Martone, they have favoured size/ players who play big a lot recently in the draft. They also have Hayton who has been trending in the right direction and I think the coaches and players really like him I don’t think they are in a rush to find a center to surpass him until they know fully what they have in him. They also have Tij Iginla who played C and LW, they need another strong righty behind guenther

This is why I'm adamant about not picking McQueen. An 18 year old with a back injury?? Count me out.
Not defending McQueen as I don’t want to select him either at 7 but back injuries vary in seriousness and the combine and medicals will tell teams whether or not it’s something to worry about long term.
If it’s a muscle injury then is usually pretty minor they tend to come from big growth spurts anyways and usually just require more muscle and strength development you gotta remember a lot of these 6’4+ kids are only around 180-190lbs usually once they find their stable weight at like 210-220 a lot of those previous muscle problems tend to go away aswell as just the time it takes your body to adjust.

If it’s a bone injury that’s where it gets scary because a lot of those usually require surgery like Cayden lindstrom last year who had a slipped disc that was pressing on nerves in his back, those usually tend to re-appear again whether it’s 1 year down the road or 10 years you never really know.

As far as I have heard and read is that Mcqueens was just a muscle injury and wouldn’t require surgery just needed to give his body time to develop to his new size add some weight and muscle to support his large frame, if he was to fall past pick 12 though I’d be all in for Boston to acquire a pick to select him he does have top 5 talent in this draft and if he takes a little longer to develop because bruins choose to have him work a couple years with their strength/ speed coaches and their nutritionist so that he’s up to a healthy size come time for the NHL I’d be good with that.

People are commenting that they think he has a shoulder injury.
That's too bad.

I hope he has a great game tomorrow, b/c it would be good for da Broons. That would mean that either he'd fall to us or somewhat takes him sooner, allowing another good player to fall to us.
