NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th II

Are you implying that the scouts/evaluators don’t take that into consideration?
I’m implying that I’d love to have seen those players with better linemates to level the playing field, and that the rankings could easily look different if that were the case. I worry about OBrien being inflated because his linemates were so good. Frondell and Eklund were a two headed monster. Hagens underwhelmed despite elite linemates. Desnoyers going a little cold the last few games could be solved by a better winger.

It’s pretty simple.

1. Roger McQueen, C (Brandon Wheat Kings, WHL)

McQueen might be the riskiest pick this season, but at the same time, one absolutely worth making for some teams. He played just 20 games between the regular season and the playoffs. But he was productive, physical, and brought so much to the table that very few else possess in this draft. McQueen has a big 6-foot-5 frame and plays with the skill of a 5-foot-11 speedster. He can shoot, pass and intimidate all in one shift. A back injury is a tough one to overcome fully, but his pure talent is undeniable. Few players have the pure upside that McQueen does. Still, he’s one of the biggest wild cards in the draft, much like Cayden Lindstrom was a year ago.

2. Radim Mrtka, RHD (Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL)

Could Mrtka be the second defenseman off the board? Some scouts think it’s possible. He was a big-time producer with the Thunderbirds and would probably finish with 50 points in a full season. Tack on the fact he’s 6-foot-5, a right-hand shot and quite mobile and there’s a lot to love. That’s the thing about Mrtka – you won’t find many blueliners his size who can accelerate like he can, and the Czech defender doesn’t seem too fazed rushing the puck at speed, either.

3. Joshua Ravensbergen, G (Prince George Cougars, WHL)

Ravensbergen is one of the best all-around goaltending prospects we’ve seen in quite some time. He’s 6-foot-5 and takes up a lot of space, and he has excellent reflexes, too. Package that together, and he’s an intriguing prospect. His numbers aren’t fantastic by any means, but he snagged wins consistently on a team that would be in a lot more trouble if he didn’t have their back. This is a quality draft for goaltenders, but Ravensbergen is the closest to feeling like a legit No. 1 goaltender. For teams with multiple first-rounders, Ravensbergen should absolutely be a target.

Imagine these top 10 projections if Martin or Desnoyers had elite linemates like Frondell/Eklund, Hagens (Leonard and Perrault), or O’Brien (Lardis and Thomas).

I'd go easy on the phrase "elite linemates" for O'Brien

Lardis - 3rd round pick in his 4th OHL season. His career high prior to this seasons of 117pts was 50pts
Thomas - 4th round pick in his 4th OHL season. His career high prior to this season of 104pts was 66pts

Seems more like Lardis & Thomas boomed in big part to their age. I'm not sure if they played with O'Brien last season, but if the didn't and this was the first season they played together, that's kind of telling in favor of O'Brien.

Contrary to what's circulating on social media, Justin Carbonneau hasn't made his choice yet. Continuing his career at Boston College is a possibility, but the decision to leave the Armada hasn't yet been made. One minute to midnight. #LHJMQ #NCAA

In 22-23 summer Bruins a few fans here wanted to tank for Bedard. One of the experts guaranteed they don’t make the playoffs ~ they went out and got 135 points

But it was regular season and who celebrates the regular season when there’s a 3% chance every year of winning a Cup. Grrrrr

They did their rebuild - it was 33 days from March 12-April 15

Now it’s retooling time where the base is a dominant first line, one-two duo on defense, and likely top 10 G, a top 10 pick, some good prospects aquired, and 9 picks in the top two rounds over next three drafts

Not a good recipe to tank

Whole heartedly agree with your premise, but I really think you are putting way too much into how the 1st line performed late in the year.

Other forwards on Moncton looked really good last night. Desnoyers was invisible for the third game in a row in the tournament. He had 21 assist in the Q playoffs, but perhaps it's a weaker league this year. MH and London look like different teams than the two Q teams, which were 1st and 2nd in the Q playoffs.

The Q is always a weaker league.

They were dominant often starting 170 feet away because of who was on D ~ I was there and Lindholm & Pastrnak were carrying the puck out it the zone from above the defensive dot. The lack of puck movers was even more impressive and the Canes and Capitals had their best checkers on that line and they shredded them

The stats I thought didn’t even reflect who they were up against and who was in back of them. Pastrnak was as dominant a winger as I can recall - was trying to come up with such a complete combo shooting, passing, aggressive winger I can remember. I thought Messier with the Rangers but he’s a center and not the playmaker as Pastrnak.

Pat LaFontaine for the combo but he also was a center and Pasta played angry

I really could not get a F sounds like Maurice Richard for 62 games but never saw him play but he was a wing

God I hope he slips to 7
Yowza

Bruins though want a guy who hits the ice looking to score an all signs point to Frondell or Eklund - but Frondell apparently is the guy they are all over as a group

I am glad I was not the only one that Fabbro . I would still be happy if he was was signed as a FA at the right cap hit
In fairness to me:laugh: I thought Fabbro looked like a Bruins and McAvoy looked like the 16 year old kid who someone in the Men’s Thursday night beer league brings as an extra who’s his younger brother or kid. Then find out he’s 7th in state in scoring playing in the Catholic Conference

I was at a BU game at Agannis and my kid who’s about mcavoy age says who’s that guy (mcavoy)?

I being a hockey insider/know-it-all said ‘no idea’ and went to google

Where I learned I believe he was 17 youngest player in college hockey and from Longah Island.

He was playing cowboy hockey very entertaining and we were both fans. However I did say to my kid (this is I think Fall of 2014) no bleeping way the Bruins ever take him - he makes Dougie Hamilton look like a stay at home defenseman lol

Imagine McQueen healthy next year and puts up a 100 points. 6 foot 5 center too. Man that could be a Powerball pick.
Yes but we need as much certainty as possible and Sweeney said pretty much he wants someone who doesn’t defer at C

Frondell one timer silhouette could be like the Air Jordan logo ~ he has a bleeping bomb

Based on their lack of guys who have a scorer’s mentality and corresponding skills to back up I would go with Frondell and Eklund

Gotta score to win they got 2 guys Pasta & Geekie who got that DNA

One option for me is trade the Toronto 1 in 2026 for Issac Howard if possible and draft O’Brien

You just rebuilt your second line

If Donny were to snag frondell and ecklund I'm sending you a kfc bucket . I would parlay that 2026 toronto maple leaf pick and obviously more ( not sure what else ) to get ecklund if on board after we pick frondell if he fell into our lap. One can dream.

Toronto 1st in 2026 for Howard is more than fine IF Howard will sign here. You’re essentially giving TBL what they used on Howard.

Think you could move a 2nd for him though. Does Tampa have “first round” leverage with him? They could lose him for nothing.
