NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th II

Interesting they have Brady Martin at #7

7. Brady Martin, C (Soo Greyhounds, OHL)

There has been a ton of discourse recently as to whether Martin is a top-10 pick. Here’s what I’ll say: this is a guy you win with. He’s built for the playoffs like Brad Marchand, so undervalue him at your own peril. Martin played at more than a point per game in the OHL, doing a lot of heavy lifting for the Soo. He was also one of the best players at both the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the U-18 World Championship. Away from the puck, He hits everyone in sight, constantly battles hard for the puck and is a noted goal-scorer, too. He doesn’t always have top-level players to play with on the Greyhounds, but he does look like one of the best players to come out of the OHL this year because he does so much all over the ice and never gives up on a play. Martin is a center, but I think he’ll be better suited on the wing in the NHL.

Would Boston's 1st and Lohrei get you San Jose's #1? Be an interesting exercise for Sweeney to gauge #6 value to SJ as Warsofsky coached him for 4-5 games or so. Of course Warsofsky replaced him with Buium for last 5 games. However the US LD
was strong with Skjei, Vlasic and Buium there. I would imagine Werenski got some LD time also.
Lohrei ranked 11th amongst U25 D in points; 21st in U25 D in goals….and was a -43.

You believe San Jose is going to swap Misa for that and what’s left over at #7?

Not likely. According to Puckpedia pick value, the delta between #2 & #7 is ~30pts. That point value is roughly the #11/#12 OA pick. Lohrei is not close in value to a #11 or #12OA pick.

if this were a draft with 10-15 players deep of impact players, might think about it, but now`s not the time, this team is going younger and will continue with all the picks they acquired at the deadline, stay the course

Last top 15 pick took McAvoy over the guy I wanted Fabbro

Chill
Fabbro a UFA I do believe, I`d sniff around and see what he`s looking for this summer, 26, RHD, a bit of offensive pop this past year, likely an outlier in that respect but ..now I`m off topic for the thread

Ep 40 would be a nice snag for that pick. I would do it blindfolded let's hope Donny hits a homerun I think its make it break with this pick. No reaches for sure.
I don’t want him here - we are animals in this area. If he’s soft or not producing and showing weakness we will have him on a spit.

JT Miller would have worked since he’s already got the requisite a-holeness. Keep EP in a nice place.

Dangerous guy - played with Werenski one of top 5-6 defenseman in league who opponents shaded giving Fabbro room

I like Fabbro but I’d bring Joker back cheap if possible- went well with Zadarov and looked like a good fit personally wise

I’m skeptical on Fabbro but if he’s a good contract I’d be interested

Hope your right, but with Sweeney win now mentality, I have my doubts
rather have a lose now mentality? I don`t think Sweeney or Neely have rose colored glasses and think this team will be Cup contenders next year. I think the expectation is a return to the playoffs while allowing younger players a chance to play and grow

Both 1 seeds got knocked out in round 2

The Kings had Edmonton dead and they royally F’d up

Bruins can be as good as Kings - we will know in 5 weeks where they are

I go to a really good cookout July 4 at my buds and he’s a Bruins guy - we will assess then lol

I remember the day after the draft my brother said the Bruins are dumb for taking McAvoy over Chychrun which I disagreed with strongly and have reminded him of that many times since. I did like both Fabbro and Chychrun but I liked McAvoy more from what I recall.

Imagine these top 10 projections if Martin or Desnoyers had elite linemates like Frondell/Eklund, Hagens (Leonard and Perrault), or O’Brien (Lardis and Thomas).

Isn't tanking for McKenna like hoping you buy a ticket and win the lottery. Chances are slim to none the Bruins would consider even remotely doing this anyway. The Bruins know who the top ten players are and pick at 7. Let’s hope they pick at 7 and add a decent prospect. They are either rebuilding or retooling. Rebuilding takes time and has great benefits if done properly. To rebuild a team has to take a couple on the chin going forward to garner some of the top prospects available. Depends on whether the owners and the GM have the patience do take the time to do it properly. Maybe the fans are in more of a rush.
In 22-23 summer Bruins a few fans here wanted to tank for Bedard. One of the experts guaranteed they don’t make the playoffs ~ they went out and got 135 points

But it was regular season and who celebrates the regular season when there’s a 3% chance every year of winning a Cup. Grrrrr

They did their rebuild - it was 33 days from March 12-April 15

Now it’s retooling time where the base is a dominant first line, one-two duo on defense, and likely top 10 G, a top 10 pick, some good prospects aquired, and 9 picks in the top two rounds over next three drafts

Not a good recipe to tank
