NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th II

I hate to break it to you but this is a rebuild. The roster is completely depleted. They tore it down almost completely

This isn’t a retool and try for another run again next year and probably not the year after either
They tore nothing down, They traded overrated players other than brad that where winning nothing in Boston.

Great trade deadline deals where made. The roster still has its core players, We will be in the playoffs next season. No doubt in my mind.

As the famous don godfather says BOOK IT!

Retooling is the way to go. Need to build with smart trades and FA signings. Rebuilds if successful take forever and hardly ever work.

Rebuilding is fools gold.
Boston Bruins retool could leave 3 players without a role

“If there was one thing that was taken away from the end-of-season media availability from Boston Bruins management last Wednesday morning, it’s that they expect the Black and Gold to be back in the postseason. That is what CEO Charlie Jacobs, general manager Don Sweeney, and team president Cam Neely expect.

That ends any speculation of a rebuild as they will look to retool on the fly this off-season, either through trades or free agency. Heck, they could do it both ways, as it seems like just about anything and everything is on the table in building a roster for the 2025-26 season.”

Bruins will be back in the playoffs next year?

Bruins were mostly healthy the first half of the season outside of Lindholm until McAvoy went down. They were struggling to hold onto a playoff spot while being one of the healthier teams in the league the first half the season.

They lost a really good 2nd pairing D and their top LW while acquiring a terrible contract in middlestadt.

They have a ton of holes on this roster and the “core” they had least year was struggling to make the playoffs when healthy.

This is most likely a bottom 10 team next year.

Amazing how that's the bar now. Last year was posed to be the year they were contenders again.

Nor should it be a retool. People are posting the downside of tanking in today’s lotto format. Noted. There’s a downside to ignoring that the cupboards are bare and kicking the can yet again.

Not long ago people were incredulous that our prospect pool ranked at the bottom of the NHL by “so called” experts that “couldn’t possibly know and watch every player”. I notice there’s a lot less griping and a lot more recognition that, rightfully after years of playoff success, our prospects SUCK. Locmelis aside, there are precious few to be excited about right now.

One draft at 7 doesn’t fix that.

I strongly disagree with this. A rebuild goes all the way down. There's still structural pillars to this team. Pastrnak, McAvoy, Lindholm, Swayman. We also saw Zadorov turn the corner in the 2nd half of the season, and Lindholm just led the Men's Worlds in scoring. The pieces are here - they just need them to execute. I think having the right coach in place and adding in the right supplemental pieces this offseason can put this club right back into the mix.

Having five first-round picks in three drafts certainly can help fix that, though.

Sweeney said he hated to sell out this year, but thought it was best for the team and next year he plans on it being like the previous years, so bye-bye first round picks.

My biggest fear with the upcoming draft(s) is the failed experiment with Lysell (so far), instead of going for the "safe" likely 3rd/4th liner they opted to draft a skilled winger and it backfired. I wonder if this is going to be one of the main topics for this upcoming draft, especially with Neely having the final say.

I hope I'm wrong

not a guy I want with the 7th pick, but if the Bruins trade down or acquire a later first.

7. Brady Martin, C (Soo Greyhounds, OHL)

There has been a ton of discourse recently as to whether Martin is a top-10 pick. Here’s what I’ll say: this is a guy you win with. He’s built for the playoffs like Brad Marchand, so undervalue him at your own peril. Martin played at more than a point per game in the OHL, doing a lot of heavy lifting for the Soo. He was also one of the best players at both the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the U-18 World Championship. Away from the puck, He hits everyone in sight, constantly battles hard for the puck and is a noted goal-scorer, too. He doesn’t always have top-level players to play with on the Greyhounds, but he does look like one of the best players to come out of the OHL this year because he does so much all over the ice and never gives up on a play. Martin is a center, but I think he’ll be better suited on the wing in the NHL.

pretty sure @UncleRico isn`t simply mentioning the playoffs as the bar, simply stating he believes they`ll get back in, I haven`t read one poster here when discussing the B`s summer this year mention they`ll be a contender next year and that`s likely because they won`t be

They aren`t getting a generational talent in this draft, it`s a terribly weak UFA pool as well

Doing little more than listening to various podcasts, reading about prospects, seeing posted highlights which only show the great plays, I feel I`m more conflicted about who I want at 7 if available as there seems to be a compelling case that could be made for 5/6 different kids in that spot

My heart and the goon in me says get Brady Martin but I`m not qualified to run the cash at a gas station let alone a hockey team :)

I simply haven`t seen any of them actually play outside of Desnoyers/Smith and Mrtka who I think there`s no chance being there at 7 for Desnoyers and think it`s too early of a pick for Smith/Mrtka

How do you propose they go about that?

It's a nice thought but it ain't happening.

yea probably not

I like Lysell and Poitras a lot, but I'd be willing to ship them out with some 2nd's this year and a first from next year, maybe Toronto's as the league may look at them as falling a bit

although teams will likely be smart enough to ask for Locmelis instead, and then I hang up the phone

something like Lysell + 2nd from this year + A first from next year (dealee's choice) for the 8th or 9th overall

I actually think the toughest part of this deal is knowing if eklund will even be available if you can only get a pick in the 9th-12th range
