Both... He was excellent last year for us. He's generally excellent. I expect him to lead us in goals. But he's not a Bedard or celebrini and I think is a good bet to make NHL but not anytime soon. He's a big boy with a great shot and some seriously sweet hands.

Those two goals where he undressed the dmen and then walked in to score were shades of Mario Lemieux.

Saw those alive.. it was amazing. But it was also a 14 goal game and Kazakhs pulled the goalie twice.lol. Eg. The original goalie left. The replacement came in and left. Then the original goalie came back. Same reason the top 10 is littered with Czechs.lol

Funny story from the game...

I met up with czech mate and czech Canadian.. not very busy so we switched sides to always be with the Kazakh goalie. Figured he'd be busy.

So we ended up in the Czech section. Everyone around us had masta jerseys. We think it was his family.

So we couldn't bitch about him on line 1.lol. He got a hat trick.. so nice moment for him.. he had a nice cheering section .

Like the spine of the team.. some big boys too! Hradec plays like a pro. Curious how that translates to AHL

Also.. that Novotny goal makes him the fourth youngest guy to ever score for us.

He had a big cheering section.. nice to see. I was very happy for him and his hat trick. But I still don't think he should be on line 1 or PP1.lol. Get the feeling nothing is changing.

On a real nice note.. port and fibigr are a fantastic third pair. They compliment each other well. Port is a big boy.. plays a heavy game. Fibigr is more hamara like.

Thats what he told us too. He seems to love Czech people. Told us a story about signing Roman turek and drinking beer in the Czech Republic.

Ftr.. I don't think we are a gold threat. It could happen if everything goes right but not the most likely outcome, or second or third likely outcome.

I love seeing Stancl excelling at the WJ, but Lemieux was undressing the Bourque’s of the world

I really love watching the Czech team playing this year. It also helps with so many being Blues prospects. I don’t consider the Czechs to be an underdog vs anyone once the elimination starts.

I wonder who will draft Galvas this year. His skills and shot are at the top level in his age category.
Yes he's smaller, but he knows how to use his height + he has great stability thanks to that After three matches, I never once saw that he had a handicap due to his height.
And his shooting is his bomb into the crossbar was pretty good

This tournament is wide open IMO.......time to start thinking about winning it all if I were you.

Awesome time overall. Really cool to be able to meet in person and discuss Czech hockey over the years. The 2 wins were the cherry on top.
Czechboy, Joey, and Czech mate are all awesome guys. Hope to get together another time in the near future.
We were also chatting about how we appreciate all Czech posters on here. Never used to be anywhere close to this much conversation when I first joined in 2011.

I'm thrilled with how we've looked. Have my quibbles about roster and such but the team looks good. Aggressive and attacking. Not getting pushed around.

But, as an example, your pool is now all f***ed up and finishing top 2 (which we did) doesn't even guarantee us to avoid US/Canada in a quarter. However, we legitmatiely did ask Craig Button in Ottawa last night about a bronze and he said the same thing you did! So JJ and Craig Button think we can do it!

He's a lot of fun to watch live.. once he gets skating... watch out! He is tiny though... not because of height.. the height is almost ok but he cannot weigh more than 150pounds. He is thin. Great player... love his jam. He even got in a scruff with a much bigger slovak yesterday.

That happened right in front of us! WE are about 8 rows up.

The problem is that the crowd started cheering for the Slovaks (I even clapped for them in the sequence.lol) and then they scored. That was a huge sequence for them.

Watching it live..

WE play 4 lines and they roll. Just red waves. Good pressure. Not many mistakes. Loose pucks are fought for always. It's really nice to see. Sale is the quitest player ever. You don't even notice him and then something good happens. He has a pro shot. zero windup and tonnes of spit on it!

Masta has a huge scoring section. He was outstanding in the 2 games I waw. 5 points in 6 periods. He has a lot of jam and fight. He is definitely a great PKer. Felcman is not that noticeable other than that he is big.
Line 2 is most noticeable. They are big, skilled and fast. They are a work of art to be honest.

Guys like Holinka and Sale are so cool to watch in warmup and games.. so much individual skill. They are both very flashy.

I saw 2 full games and cannot tell you one thing Husa did. Not good, not bad. Just eats minutes quietly.

Galvas you notice non stop. He gets on the ice and it's his ice. He was often the lowest forward and behind the Kazakh/Slovak net.

Port is f***en beautiful. Big boy. Hard pro game. Reminds me of David Musil (I loved David Musil). Just a solid AHL style game to him. He's with..
Fibigr and this pairing is beautiful. They compliment each other so well. Fibigr is a jack of all trades type player.. a Hamara lite.

Jiricek and Dvorak were not that noticeable. They played very effective and quiet hockey but you weren't sitting in the stands going 'holy shit, that Jiricek'. Only D like that is Galvas to my eye.

Zidlicky is not as impactful as I thought he'd be. Playing a solid bottom6 game but nothing really standing out to me. I love our 4th line.

I figured out Stancl is.. he's Dimitri Jaskin. Big boy, big body, aggressive and has very nice hands in close. He's a classic power forward type (for 2024) but he has amazing hands and likes to try things in tight.

Hradec looks like an AHL C - he's big, he's tough, he competes and he is a dream C. He may actually be the next Sapo.

Jecho was very quiet. Every so often he pulls out a sublime pass or play but not standing out.

Simek, in warmup, had the biggest smile in the arena.. he was just chatting and happy. Sale was hugging Masta in warmup. Simek scores in 3rd shift and it's amazing... then you see he got hurt and is out. I was so happy for him till he got hurt.

Hrabal and Kavan both let in stinkers.lol I think Hrabal has only allowed 3 goals in his games against the Swiss and Slovaks. The first goal was bad though.. like really bad. Was happy for Slovaks though, arena was jumping.

Amazingly, didn't notice Kos at all.

6 periods and 18 goals for and 4 against. I'll take it!

And one last thing.lol

Growing up I'd always listen to my Dad talk about Czech hockey and how it was about 'combos'. We always had that extra pass or several passes before shooting. We lost that for a long time was we became a slapshot style team. They are back to combos.. they hold that puck, zing it around and then finiish. It is beautiful. The Kazakh game had something like 14 goals in 35 shots. We were shooting near 40%. Then we did it to Slovakia in first too. We are either on an unsustainable heater or have some very good finishing in close. Time will tell.

We are obviously inflated by a weaker pool and a double touchdown win over Kazaks. Still, it's nice. Not one Canuck?

Fibigr keeping great company amongst D.. ASP Hutson, Willander and Fibigr.

Not bad for Hrabal. He's played 2 good opponents too. Swiss and Slovaks. I don't' expect it to stay this high as it's now Sweden and a tough quarter. Still, he has been excellent.

He is more like Dostal/Vokoun.. very calm and centred. Nothing like a Mrazek/Hasek who were more athletic and instincts.

You could argue that we've had the easier games but I'd like to point out Canadda has played Latvia and Germany. I'm not sure that is 'harder' than Slovakia and Switzerland.
