WC: 2025 Austria team

We have been there in 1994 and lost 0-10 against the Fins!
Oh, sorry, I didn't remember that, has been 21 years. Anyways, great tournament by Austria so far. I got the impression the international league which brought together top clups from a few countries which are not among the absolutely top hockey nations has been a great project. Players from this league keep improving year by year. Many people in Czechia had low esteem about this league because it was "some Austria, Slovenia etc.", but I think they should finally start taking it seriously. Austrian players from domestic clubs are completely competent skaters now, capable of playing on the international hockey pace without making mistake after mistake. A big change since, say, 8 years ago. This is no longer any joke team.

I will celebrate this win so hard tonight 🍻

Zwerger is the unsung hero of the past three games along with Biber. Of course everyone is talking about Kasper/Rohrer (including me). But Zwerger should have had a better carreer, he's got the talent level to be a NHL. Biber is gonna make his way into NHL, I'm sure of it. It's imprassive what a responsible game he plays at 18 years as defenseman.

Congrats to Austria, you guys have put together a solid run this year and have really improved your NT. Red Wings and Austrian fans must be really happy with Kaspers breakout.

I still think the team that has made the Olympics (and even won the game there) have more of a bragging rights as far as Austria's best hockey achievement goes but this is pretty sweet as well.
Unquestionably. But that team was at the tail end of the last golden generation. The hope, tentatively, is that this golden generation will still have a few more years to match the same accomplishments.

"Austria's best hockey achievement", pshaw! You guys act as if this proud hockey nation didn't win World Championship bronze medals as recently as 1931 and 1947.

It was also the biggest disappointment that the most important players got wasted that night and we lost the next game against Slovenia. That was a major set back for the national team because many players retired after that. So most have erased those Olympics from their memory.

Znene touched on this in the broadcast a bit against Latvia and I tend to agree with him: what is very different this year is the consistency with which the team plays. There really has not been a dip in performance in those seven games. You could call the Slovenia game a „dip“ but that would take away from the very good game the Slovenians and especially their goalie played.

Small periods of concentration loss of course, the ending of the Sweden game, sure. Every team makes mistakes.

But you know exactly what ou are gonna get each shift from this group. They forecheck, they pressure and they skate relentlessly each shift. And then you have Kickert at the back who just hasn’t made a mistake this tournament. So many little things that make the big picture into the artful painting it is right now.

To see this way of playing the game from an Austrian Team is a treat and an almost unexpected surprise. Even if the groundwork has been laid a while ago. Seems Bader finally found the players to make it work.

Nice start to the tournament for Marco Kasper.
