Ra - I am sure Hofer and Komarek are retired from the team. I thought M Raffl packed it in too, T Raffl may still be interested if selected.

I would say Herburger is in if he doesn't bow out. Ganahl and Wukovits for depth roles.

Komarek, Hofer and Michael Raffl won't be part of the roster. Madlener as well, but that's not that big of a problem as Tolvanen will probably get most games and Kickert will play the other ones. If it comes down to the three goalies in the camp roster right now, Wieser will most likely make the team. Don't know exactly what's the deal with Wraneschitz, but he would be my No. 3.

On defence I'm pretty curious how Söllinger performs in the pre-tournament games. He really had a breakout season and was one of the more stable defenders for the Black Wings Linz.

Assuming, that Rossi and Reinbacher won't be available due to playoff action in NA, this is my guess:

Tolvanen/Kickert/Wieser

Bernd Wolf, Nickl, Unterweger, David Maier, Söllinger, Biber, Heinrich, (?? Brunner, Lindner ??)

Kasper, Baumgartner, Rohrer, Haudum, Zwerger, Mario Huber, Paul Huber, Ganahl, Schneider, Nissner, Th. Raffl, Thaler, Achermann, Wukovits

Ganahl cancelled his participation due to personal reasons.

But pretty surprising news came up today. Brian Lebler (36 years old) will give his comeback for Team Austria:

Lebler was the best goal scorer this year in the ICEHL - 33 goals in 62 games. He was always a bit too slow for the international stage, but his shot is still a lethal weapon. Hopefully he can find spots to release it.

The Salzburger Nachrichten (SN) broke the news with the Salzburg players and their supposedly issues with Roger Bader.

Just a few hours later Bader denied any problems via Krone and Laola1. Apparently Huber and Nissner already told him in January/early February, that they won't join the team this year due to personal reasons and Wukovits is dealing with some minor injuries. Tolvanes wive indeed is advanced in pregnancy, but from my understanding he will be with the team in Stockholm and fly to Helsinki as soon as she is in labor. After the birth he could join the team again.

Personally the allegedly problems between the Salzburg players and Bader seem a bit odd to me. The group stage last year was a huge success and especially Mario Huber played a very important role. Also the team spirit seemed pretty good last year. So for me it was a bit suprising reading about it today.

Nonetheless with Mario Huber, Nissner and Wukovits three important players will be missed.

@Eye of Ra Vanek yes (at least for now), but Pöck definitely wasn't better than Reinbacher is now. In terms of high end players it's definitely Austrias best era in history. Rossi, Kasper and Reinbacher could all be key players in the NHL for a long time.

Reinbacher has yet to make the jump into the NHL. Gotta be patient with him after his knee injurry. Montreal hasn't been a warm place for him so far, especially if u read on their board (Draft, Injury). It will be interesting to see if he can make the jump despite all those circumstances. But I agree that he's already the better overall defenseman than Pöck in his prime.

Rossi, Kasper & DR probably won't be the only austrians in the NHL the next few years:
I think Biber has a good chance becoming an NHL'er for Utah probably sooner than we think. And I do believe Vinzenz Rohrer has got an outside shot to become an NHLer as well.

So if all of those would be available this would be the best Austrian team ever. Unfortunately The chance is slim that we will ever see all of them on the ice for AUT.

I do need to back up the bus a bit here. I agree with much of what you say but strongly disagree that Reinbacher is already better than Pock. Pock had a 61 point season in 67 games in the AHL and followed that with a 44 point season. He played parts of 5 seasons in the NHL.

The 2014 Olympic team remains the best Austrian team ever assembled until this current group all take the ice together, presumably at an Olympic games... outside shot at a World Cup appearance.

Pöck has never been good at defending, the main job as defenseman. That's why he didn't make the jump to nhl permanently. He was a good "4th forward" on the ice and numbers prove that but he was not good enough in his own zone.

DR on the other hand is awesome in his own zone and also has some untapped offensive potntial as well. That's why I'd say DR is already the better defensemen than Pöck in his prime.

The 2014 olympic team is still the best we've ever had, I agree. But if all the current top level players would be available for austria, we could field a team which has the potential to be equally good as that 2014 olympic team. I doubt it'll ever happen 'cause we need to qualify for olympics without our best players (thats difficult) and there will always be guys missing during the WC because of the Playoffs in North Armerica.

Pock might actually fit better today with some of the high cycle, 5 man cycle and down hill offenses you see in the NHL. He would not be a fit for the Leafs.

I want to get eyes on Reinbacher. Haven't in a long time. I went to watch the Austrian team practice a number of times ahead of the World Juniors in Halifax and I left there with a feeling he was a third rounder. I was positively roasted in the Austrian thread back then (clearly he went higher than anyone could have imagined) I did not see offense in his game nor the potential for it.

Not deceptive, no real shake and bake in his game, ok playmaker and not a big shooter. He can join the rush pretty well.

He should grade out as a very good defensive D given his speed, wingspan and IQ.

Still lots of developing to do.
