I could see the Islanders trying to trade down for 3OA.
Wouldn't necessarily hate this idea if OP thinks Misa fits the bill of a first line center.

Would be a huge mistake on the hawks end passing up Misa/Martone. They still need someone high end to play with bedard for the next 10+ years and they also can go in on Marner when he gets free agency. Drafting a guy like Misa/Martone and signing a guy like Marner would give Bedard 2 guys to play with pretty much right away. Misa and Martone may take an extra year to be where they need to be but in the meantime Hawks can try and tank for McKenna. If they don’t get him there’s still a loaded first round
Hawks clearly want Misa but the Islanders now hold that card.
Martone comes with additional question marks that Misa doesn’t, and seems unlikely to even be considered by the Hawks at 3 according to Scott Wheeler.
The Hawks also can’t build their offseason around the hope that Marner is interested in Chicago. If he is, they’ll sign him. But that’s a big if.
Unless you are willing to take someone who is nearing the very end of team control and may be already into UFA age range, I don't see clubs sending RFA aged players with 2-3 more RFA years left for an 18 year old prospect.

Misa is not going first overall. Schafer has like a 70% chance of it. Hagens a 20% and then Martone and Misa 5% each
martone is more of a project. Give him a year in the NCAA or another year in junior and then he will be ready.
Misa may be ready now but IMO still needs to work on bulking up and defence. The only 2 guys that may end up in the NHL next year that I can think of are Schaefer and Misa but neither is 100%.
Martone I’d give like a 20% chance of being in NHL next year and Misa like a 50/50- too good for Junior but still needs to work on some stuff, NCAA would be perfect for him since he’s ineligible for the AHL. A guy like Schaefer prob 80% NHL with a 20% of being back in junior being conditioned well and playing lots of games and half the game in every situation etc and bulking up 15-20 lbs would be perfect for him. Again just my 2 cents from watching them all year but I don’t expect everyone to agree.
The hawks want Misa, so that’s a no brainer if he’s there. If either of the islanders or sharks take him the hawks have options to explore at 3.
If nobody is out there to play with Bedard for 10 years, like you said, they’ll pick Frondell or Desoyners.

Isn’t a 1st line center or wing pretty much what you’d hope to get at 3rd overall? Going to be hard to convince a team to trade you one for a pick to select a player that might become one.
Luckily for the Hawks and San Jose, the one team that might be inclined to trade down to 3 specifically(assuming the price is right) has the first rounder
Probably best move for both teams is try pool assets together and each team get there "guy", would be much cheaper to move up from 3 to 2 than 3 to 1 if you want Misa.
As for getting a winger for Berard, you can have Duclair for free(or maybe use taking his contract as some leverage). lol
Chicago also owns Islanders 2nd rounder in 2026 so that might hold a bit more value for the Islanders if they want to look at some RFA this summer
Sure, you’d hope to. Question is whether that guy emerges as they go through this pre-draft process.

Islanders don't need to move down and there's a drop off after #2. It ain't going to come cheap.

I think it goes Islanders selecting Schaefer and Sharks with Misa. However they could go with Martone apparently #2 and then yes that’s the hawks dream getting Misa.
Frondell I can get. Desnoyers is the one I don’t. Martone would be a way better pick at that point.
Desnoyers is going to be good but as far as centres go- Misa 1, Frondell/Hagens 2, Frondell/Hagens 3 Desnoyers 4 and O’Brien 5.
If you pick Desnoyers you’re leaving 2 centres on the board probably better than him.
Ya, we’ll see. A lot of this is based on the names two Athletic reporters have thrown out. And based on their reporting the Hawks GM doesn’t seem very interested in Martone or Hagens at 3.

2025 1st overall for 2025 3rd overall, 2025 29th overall, 2025 34th overall and the Florida 2026 first round pick.

IMO I’m not doing this deal.
The 2026 first rounder in a much stronger draft, 3rd OA just 2 spots down when there’s 3-4 pretty close in skill and 2 mid seconds is not worth it.

If the isles take Schaefer, the sharks will be stoked to pick Misa. But, in that case, it's possible the hawks could offer something for him. It would probably take an overpay though because Misa is in a tier above Martone.
