worst contract in the leagueIf Marner just chases money he's going to get like 16+ per.

Two years from now it'll be market value and the deals that Ehlers and Bennet get will be worse.worst contract in the league
The sticker price on guys like Ehlers and Bennett this summer is going to melt brains. The only reason I'm against paying Marner is that it kills the Bedard took less so you'll take less narrative.
Yep. Build from within. Are you better than our best player? Tampa did it. Build a winning team first culture. As in you’re holding out hope that Bedard takes less so don’t make any big moves until he extends so they follow suit?
But yeah, Ehlers/Bennett/Boeser contracts are going to all be pretty bad I think.
Exactly right.Yep. Build from within. Are you better than our best player? Tampa did it. Build a winning team first culture.
Bedard is going to set the Chicago cap. If you let an outsider do it Bedard's contract goes up. If Bedard isn't that guy we're not winning anything anyway.

I dont see how that relates to the Hawks? One was a team that was a player or 2 from the cup, with their core in place. The other has almost nothing, and no where near the playoffs.Wasn't Eichel the top cap hit for Vegas when they brought him in and went on to win a Cup?

They had to get to the cap floor.Yes, it was obviously a different situation, it's just a counter to the point that you can't bring in someone paid more than your current best player which was the original point.
Then you add in the fact the point is to build a winning culture.... But then you overpay guys like Brodie, Alec Martinez, Foligno, and others double what they're worth? I don't buy it.
They had to get to the cap floor.
There's no reason to add those anymore, which is helped by the Weber deal for this seaosn... then next season Bedard will be a paid guy and you can set around trying to add to that roster with hopefully another high end pickYes, figured that much was obvious.
I don't think overpaying old washed up vets to hit the cap floor who don't play hard and skip every practice is going to be all that conducive to this winning culture we're talking about building.

Foligno didn't play hard? Martinez didn't play hard?Yes, figured that much was obvious.

I could care less about practices. I think Foligno did the best he could in most of his games, sucking is different than coasting. No, I think quite a few games they absolutely coasted. How many practices did they skip?
Hossa missed a shit ton of practices. Missing practice doesn't mean they coasted. No, I think quite a few games they absolutely coasted. How many practices did they skip?

I think he did what he could, and I think the young guys on the team love him.Hossa was a key cog and his main priority was to help bring this team a Cup, not mentor young players. Foligno is an overpaid veteran who is expected to do nothing but lead and be a good influence for the young guys. Not even remotely comparable roles.
You're telling me you think 37 year old Folgino busted his ass every single game and shift on the second worst team in the league?
The rebuild is at stake here, really hope Davidson doesn't flub it up.Zawaski has said that he feels very confident the Hawks and Davidson will be very aggressive this summer adding a top 6 forward at the least, maybe 2 if they can, I hope that doesn't mean replace the SJ contract with another SJ contract or trading unprotected 1sts

"Davidson knows he needs to be aggressive this summer"...and to that I say...he does? His summer cannot be Blashill and win now movesThe rebuild is at stake here, really hope Davidson doesn't flub it up.
I dont know what games you watched but effort and compete wasnt the problem with Folingno, its just that his age is starting to show. But he can still set an example with his play as he doesnt take shifts off, is physical and will drop the gloves to stick up for teammate.
Captain doesnt have to best player on a team, there is so much more to being captain. Hawks clearly respect him a great deal.
