2025 26 Roster…too Soon

It's ironic but the cap going up by $9M really hurts us this year as we still have a ton of cap space and assets on ELC's to trade. But because almost every team has more than enough space, they don't need to dump anyone and players on ELC's aren't as valuable.

Targets for me (both trade or even offersheet) are Dallas and Buffalo.

Dallas is going to have to make choices and are on the cusp of cap hell with Rantanten, Johnston, & Oetinger all getting big raises. The pivitol decision will be do they try keeping both Duchene and Benn. Duchene is getting a raise (he is not taking 3 million again coming off 82 pts as a 34 year old looking at his last chance at real money) and Benn is taking a haircut, but if they really want to keep both I would guess they end up around the current 12.5 both are making. Even commiting what it takes to keep one of Benn or Duchene make the cap a real issue for them. Bourque (trade or offersheet) and Marchment (trade) are the 2 pieces we should be looking at. Bourque Marchment and Dumba for a 2nd (of some sort) could be a one stop shop for the Stars to keep both Duchene and Benn.

Buffalo's dillema this Summer will be if they want to keep both Bowen and Peterka, their cap gets real tight too making RFA's McLeod and Quinn tricky to resign/keep.

Who is Buffalo spending so much cap on that they're in a crunch but also near last place in the league
Dahlin + Powers are pulling 19.35 and they will pay Skinner 4.44 to play somewhere else next season.

They are at 71.40 committed and still needing 3 F, 2, D, and a G for next season. Peterka and Bowen I suspect end up in the 7-8 range. Lets say Peterka/Bowen go toward the higher end (I think massive rise in cap is going to be surprising to us on what deals look like going forward) and cost 16 combined. I expect the backup G, 1 F, and 1 D will be ELC/minimum guys so another 3 leaving 5.1 to deal with Quinn and McLeod.

Is Carolina really trying to trade Svech? I think he's their leading goal scorer so far in the playoffs

It's just wishful thinking on my part unfortunately, but it has logic in it imo.

If they can't advance past Washington, they will surely need to improve their roster and try to add another, more scoring- gamebreaking aligned forward talent. (Like EP40, low hanging fruit)

Svech has not exactly met the lofty expectations, but of course he's very good overall (and for us would be amazing), but I could definitely see using him to rebalance the roster. Stankoven and Jarvis hold down the wing, on C though it's only Aho and after that Kotkaniemi and Stall are lackluster options.

So while I think of course the goal would be to get EP for some of their lesser parts and elevate the forward group with Svechnikov, if something would have to give (which I think Vanc would push for), I think he is the most logical higher profile piece that's expendable.

So since Svech doesnt make sense for a rebuilding Vancouver with zero core building blocks, flipping with us is logical.

Anyway, tldr it's dream land for now, but there is a world where it could turn realistic.

Gonna guess they prefer to keep McLeod since they traded Savoie for him. Quinn is the definitely available. But I also expect them to load up all their pieces for a big trade.

Wasn't a Strome related thread so not a case of antistromeitism
If you made a Strome thread, it would've gotten locked immediately and I would've requested a perma ban.

Slight joking aside, the reason for the lock is you could've made that post in here. We don't need more threads to discuss the same shit we're already discussing; we have various threads going sideways as is because there isn't much to discuss right now outside of who goes 3rd.

I could've just merged your thread into this one, but then we miss out on the enjoyment of voting for it's closure. Gotta try to have fun with it at least.

It's really nice to have you as a mod I have to say. Finally some boundaries lol.

Thanks, but Shogun and Disgruntled have done just fine without me.

I haven't even punished anybody here yet. I've basically just been locking and stickying threads here and there. Let those two do the dirty work.

if Kyle starts to follow The Plan™, then I demand the thread gets revived
If you correctly predict all of it, you will be honored in some way on these boards. I would have to confer with the other mods to decide what that would be, but we would do something to commemorate your achievement.

Thankfully, I'm pretty confident that the only thing that happens is that that thread stays locked.
