2025 26 Roster…too Soon

Having read the last 20 pages of this thread over the last 2-3 days, here is a synopsis of the HF Hawks GM actions.
1) Win 2025 lottery.
2) trade #1 pick + maybe 26 2nd (tor) to Nashville get 25 3rd overall and 26 unprotected 1st rd.
3) sign Knies as RFA give our 26 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
4) sign Marner UFA
5) trade for Petterson sending later 25 1st, 26 Fl 1st, 26 ny 2nd Korchinski or Allen
6) Draft Martone with 25 3rd overall.
7) still have preds 26 1st.

Would be better next year then
In 2 years
Bedard, Knies, Marner
Petterson, Boisvert, Nazar
Moore, Martone, Lardis?
Reichel, Slaggert, Dach

Don’t like any of them? Check out and fit in Kantserov, Vanacker, Pridham, Spellacy, Greene, Savoie or Thompson where needed.

Rinzel .. Vlasic
Levshunov .. EDM
Crevier .. Kaiser
Korchinski OR Allan

Knight .. Commesso

so this is the kind of ea sports fever dream we cook up in our collective unconscious?

It’s actually not bad for value. 1 poster would post a rip off level deal another would bring it back to earth. Musto would propose moving Allan and Reichel for a 4th in every deal.
I differ from many of you in that I jump on EP for the proposed if he’s available.

One other place I differ, Chevier. … Nobody seems to think much of him beyond “maybe” becoming a good 6th or 7th Dman.
(Too me) He has a lot of tools and guys that big/tall have been known to take longer. I definitely see good 2nd pair but feel good 1st pair is also possible.

I like Howard but I think he's being seriously overrated on here. I'm all for trading for him, but I see a middle 6 forward, not a potential star.

If the Hawks were the only interested party you'd be right. When you've got a bunch of teams interested, the compensatory pick is the floor, not the ceiling for his value.
The compensatory pick is a new pick, so nobody is conveying a pick they currently own.

The bidding war is likely exaggerated because only rebuilding teams can likely offer what he’s seeking which is what essentially amounts to a guaranteed roster spot (obviously he can come in and suck and the team owns his rights at that point so can send him down, but I’d expect any team trading for him to at least give him a spot dominant of camp), and as a prospect he is good to/very good but not a can’t miss/superstar potential. A good number of teams are probably also out because he is only one year removed from UFA so if he doesn’t want to go there, he can just wait it out. Gauthier had a much better pedigree and was further from UFA, and didn’t return a crazy package.

I'd like to see Crevier as a 7th D /Rw .He and Safonov could disrupt a lot in front of the oppositions goalie.

For a professional athlete with their resources and millions on the line for their next contract it’s pretty irrelevant.

He’s not exactly going to be taking road trips home mid-season and offseason he’s got all the time in the world.
nope thats not true. having your friends and family close enough to come watch you does matter.

Ehlers looked dangerous last night. He might be a good running mate with Bedard. Wasnt really sold on it before but he can really skate.

Agreed, that does matter.

But where he grew up is nearly a 6 hour drive from the United Center. Him being from Wisconsin is irrelevant
Your saying it matters and then its irrelevant. It does matter. When you have the chance to pick any team. Being close enough for your parents to come watch you play isnt irrelevant.

We just disagree.

If he wants to play close to family then he'd just play another year in college and then sign in Minnesota. His home town is like 20 minutes from their stadium vs 6 hours from the UC.

Hell, St. Louis is closer to Chicago than where he grew up. Maybe we should sell that on the Tkachuk brothers to come here too.

Im not saying its the closest place to his home... Nobody said that.

What a weird argument. Im saying its a positive that Chicago is close to where hes from. His friends and family can drive to watch him play. People he knows from high school/college are probably living in Chicago.
