2025 26 Roster…too Soon

His biggest attribute is his playoff ability and by the time the Hawks are a playoff team he might be toast by the time that’s even applicable for Chicago.

He is a guy who will open up the ice for whoever kid(s) is on his line and will drop em when guys try and take liberties. Character guy. He won't age well as far as the backhalf of whatever deal he gets but even then, would still be a solid bottom 6 guy. You can certainly do much worse.

You willing to pay him 7M+ and for 6-7 years? I love him but I just don’t think the Hawks are ready for that kind of deal for that type of player.

If he can stay healthy, Dach could be that kind of player. He is big, has skill and he has a little rat in him
Hmmm idk, Sam Bennett is an extremely unique player and he's more talented than i think most are giving him credit for. He was one of Canada's best players in the Four Nations final. I dont really see Dach getting remotely close to that level of impact and if he has a little rat in him than Sam Bennett has a whole rat infestiation in him lol

Sorry not paying Bennett $7-8M AAV on a 7 year deal

He is about to turn 29, has had his share of injuries and is just a 40-50 pt player (On deep Panther teams)

Before going to Florida, he registered more than 30 pts once

Whoever gives Bennett big payday is going to regret it for years to come

well said and agree

Also, Bennett truly benefits greatly from playing on deep team and behind better talents like Reinhart, Barkov, Tkachuk and Verhaeghe. IMO Lundell is already a better player than him at this point as well

In Chicago he won't have that luxury of being supporting player around deep talented roster (Anytime soon at least)

And you don't think Lundell also has that same exact benefit by playing against lesser competition on the 3rd line?

Lundell has a great future ahead of him, and is already very good, but he's not better than Bennett.... not yet at least. I'd love to have him.

I wouldnt give Bennett that type of money either. For the right price he would be a very nice addition. A little older than the core players, plays tough, winning track record, plays center where the Blackhawks need help...FOR THE RIGHT PRICE and TIME FRAME....I rather give Bennett a $6.5M AAV for 5 years than some monster deal for Marner.

As gross as it is to say, being on a team that has gone deep into the postseason for multiple years is kind of a double-edge sword for me as far as projecting him forward into his 30s. That's a lot of wear and tear that comes with extra hockey and shorter offseasons.

Is there a chance to overpay for Knies and force Toronto into a shit situation? Not sure what pick the Hawks would give up if it was over 5 million per.

No.

He's already stated he's not interested in going the offersheet route.

Money talks.

What else is he possibly going to say if he’s asked about it?

I don’t think it’s worth giving up our picks for him, though. A middling team like Detroit? Absolutely.

Rantanen signed for $12M is Marner really worth much more? Guentzal at $9M look pretty cheaper right now. With the cap going up, the Hawks have room to make some big signings as long as they are the right ones.

Rantanen technically wasn't a ufa when he signed and he signed in a no tax state. Those are some significant differences.

Stay at 2nd in the Lottery
Hire Marco Sturm
Draft Misa
Draft Ryabkin

Resign Donato 3x4
Reichel and ? for Anders Lee
Bertuzzi for Howards rights
Futures? for Vilardi 5x7

Sign Orlov 3x6.5

Lee-Bedard-Vilardi
Howard-Nazar-Teravainen
Donato-Greene-Mikheyev
Slaggert-Dickinson-Dach
Foligno

Vlasic-Rinzel
Orlov-Levshunov
Del Mastro-Allan
Kaiser

Knight
Soderblom

Now that the CHL is allowing for players to play in college, I don't think the roster is going to include anyone they draft.

My dream

Sign 1 of Marner, Boeser, Ehlers to a long term deal (Not likely)
Re-sign Donato to 3 x 4 (He's probably going to get more)
Sign 1 of Tavares, Duchene, Nelson, to a short term deal (Also not likely)
Add a vet LHD on a short term deal

Marner - Tavares - Bedard
Bertuzzi - Nazar - Teravainen
Donato - Dickinson - Mikheyev
Foligno - Veleno - Slaggert
Dach

Vlasic - Rinzel
Kaiser - Murphy
Vet LHD - Crevier/Del Mastro

Knight
Soderblom/Commesso

Levshunov gets the Nazar treatment starting in Rockford

Everything you said AND he got 8 years where Marner can only get 7 as a UFA.
Plus Marner is 6 months younger and decent odds his game ages better than Rants. In addition to a higher tax state upcharge, I think the Hawks will have to pay a surcharge as a bad team for another year or two to win him over some other options he will have.

Fire this one back up

Saying out loud what anyone with common sense already knew. No way that kid wants to go back to MSU for next season and if Tampa forces him to....he absolutely will not sign with them out of spite. Hope we kick the tires and Allan for him straight up makes sense on both sides.
