2025 26 Roster…too Soon

Elias Petterson. We need to have a serious conversation about EP. He is ripe for the picking, cheap to trade for and signed longterm at 11.6 trough 2032.

1 point in his last 10 games.

102 points in 80 games 22/23 Age 23/24 7th in Selke
89 points in 82 games 23/24 Age 24/25
45 points in 64 games 24/25 Age 25/26

Rumors swirl around him. The Miller drama is well documented. There are some pretty wild ones I won't get in to. But at some point he comes so cheap you have to really think about it. I have some trades rattling around in my brain. the 11.6 really does not bother me but I get that it's a little risky.
He's incredibly gifted but he's a retool guy that a team trying to buy for fifty cents on the dollar goes all in on not a team halfway through a full tank pushes in on.

How about this scenario? Since Dominic James won’t sign with Chicago and he’s ’rumoured’ to be wanting to play for Detroit…offer his rights to the Red Wings for a 2025 5th rounder(James was a 6th rounder)…if they say NO?

Offer sheet both Jonatan Berggren and Elmer Soderblom…Berggren 2 yrs $4.5 million and Soderblom 2 yrs $2.2 million, just like STL did with EDM, the compensation would be a 2nd and a 3rd…what you guys think?

Both players are young(Berggren 24, Soderblom 23), with potential, Hawks have the room for the salaries and jobs upfront…thoughts?

You want to threaten Detroit... over a 5th round pick?

But why? Neither are good and you got your own prospects pushing for jobs, and can fill out with UFAs that are better and don’t require moving out picks.

Depending on the ask from VAN think you have to consider EP, but you better be right on the person to commit to that term and aav...

Have to imagine that the 26 1st would be something they want in return and IDK if I'm giving that up for him. If it's the TOR + FLA 1sts then maybe, but it is a lot of term/aav

Unless I am wrong my perception of Petey (As people call him it seems) is that he is a bit of an outsider/loner type who also doesn't show a lot of emotion

People like Miller who comes off as an asshole in way he acts from reports (If true) was not type to take kindly to that type of person in locker-room/etc and viewed him as "Not trying", etc

Reminds me of weird way that Dougie Hamilton was villified a bit by press and some within B's organization for similar demeanor in Boston.

As DHF said this is good target for retool team to take chance on not Hawks. A good comp would be Caps trading for PLD this past summer

PLD play recovered to normal levels in DC and he seems a fit there while Kings were happy to move on from mistake and have also improved without PLD

It kicks in July 1, 2025, hence why the Canucks likely have a sense of urgency about moving him.
on the one hand that might reduce the price but its a gamble...there was a random rumor on twitter summer of 2023 that Pettersson wanted to make his way to Chicago, but that was before the big contract extension

The fact I have to even think on if I'd even want EP for free is enough evidence to just stay away. Something toxic about that guy.

While JT Miller is seemingly an ass, I think EP was largely also at fault for that feud.

he has only gone over a pt per game twice in his career. Donato had better #'s last year then him. He is not big or fast. Im just not sure I see anything elite. good player but would much rather have marner at 14 them him at 11.6

what if Vancouver could eat 30% of the contract and you could still get Petey for a second round pick or something insane like that?

probably the highest risk vs reward situation in the nhl ever.

other than Quinn Hughes I am literally not interested in a single player from Canucks roster either due to age, contract, skill. Blueger would possibly be a nice 4th line center but he is already 30

I would be interested in Garland if cost is a 2nd + meh prospect (Ludwinski)

1 yr left on deal and would be nice fit potentially on 3rd line at RW

Mikheyev-Moore-Garland

That could be a great 3rd line
