He's incredibly gifted but he's a retool guy that a team trying to buy for fifty cents on the dollar goes all in on not a team halfway through a full tank pushes in on.Elias Petterson. We need to have a serious conversation about EP. He is ripe for the picking, cheap to trade for and signed longterm at 11.6 trough 2032.
1 point in his last 10 games.

Rumors swirl around him. The Miller drama is well documented. There are some pretty wild ones I won't get in to. But at some point he comes so cheap you have to really think about it. I have some trades rattling around in my brain. the 11.6 really does not bother me but I get that it's a little risky.
You want to threaten Detroit... over a 5th round pick? How about this scenario? Since Dominic James won’t sign with Chicago and he’s ’rumoured’ to be wanting to play for Detroit…offer his rights to the Red Wings for a 2025 5th rounder(James was a 6th rounder)…if they say NO?
Offer sheet both Jonatan Berggren and Elmer Soderblom…Berggren 2 yrs $4.5 million and Soderblom 2 yrs $2.2 million, just like STL did with EDM, the compensation would be a 2nd and a 3rd…what you guys think?
Both players are young(Berggren 24, Soderblom 23), with potential, Hawks have the room for the salaries and jobs upfront…thoughts?
But why? Neither are good and you got your own prospects pushing for jobs, and can fill out with UFAs that are better and don’t require moving out picks.Offer sheet both Jonatan Berggren and Elmer Soderblom…Berggren 2 yrs $4.5 million and Soderblom 2 yrs $2.2 million, just like STL did with EDM, the compensation would be a 2nd and a 3rd…what you guys think?

Was about to say the same thingcomparing seth jones to marner is comical
very fair point...does the NMC stay if he waives it in a trade? If you wouldn't sign Elias Pettersson to 7 years/$11.6 million AAV with Full NMC if he were UFA, don't know why you'd pay assets to get that same contract.
It kicks in July 1, 2025, hence why the Canucks likely have a sense of urgency about moving him.very fair point...does the NMC stay if he waives it in a trade?
Yeah, the only deal that made sense was Seth for Petey. I would have done that in a heartbeat, but wouldn't trade the assets we got in that deal for Petey. If you wouldn't sign Elias Pettersson to 7 years/$11.6 million AAV with Full NMC if he were UFA, don't know why you'd pay assets to get that same contract.
on the one hand that might reduce the price but its a gamble...there was a random rumor on twitter summer of 2023 that Pettersson wanted to make his way to Chicago, but that was before the big contract extensionIt kicks in July 1, 2025, hence why the Canucks likely have a sense of urgency about moving him.
Might as well as throw in Quinn Hughes it's just as likely to happen.what if Vancouver could eat 30% of the contract and you could still get Petey for a second round pick or something insane like that?
probably the highest risk vs reward situation in the nhl ever.
other than Quinn Hughes I am literally not interested in a single player from Canucks roster either due to age, contract, skill. Blueger would possibly be a nice 4th line center but he is already 30
I considered him but at 5'8 180 pounds I feel like we need more size on 3rd line.I would be interested in Garland if cost is a 2nd + meh prospect (Ludwinski)
1 yr left on deal and would be nice fit potentially on 3rd line at RW
Mikheyev-Moore-Garland
That could be a great 3rd line
Why even discuss a scenario that would never, ever happen?what if Vancouver could eat 30% of the contract and you could still get Petey for a second round pick or something insane like that?
