2025 26 Roster…too Soon

I'm sure they'd go looking for a trade partner. Not sure they'd get it though. Not without retaining salary at least, and we're already without one of our retention spot because of you know who.
Retention is gonna be way less of a thing next year I think. Everybody has oodles of cap space. Like Marner will sign the richest deal in NHL history if he's just going after money.

He's turned into a pretty good fourth liner at minimum. I wouldn't go full Vlasic on him just yet but that's never stopped you before.

I hope they give Reichel better opportunity next year. He has done well in fourth line but you cant expect much production playing 10 min a night. Bedard was starving of skilled linemate so it seems odd that they never tried Reichel there. It was a tank year anyway what would have been harm to try it!?

I'm a big Reichel fan but he definitely needs to develop more jam and determination in his game. He has all the tools to be successful in the top-9 but he needs to show he wants it more than the next guy.

I dont know what you have been watching if you dont see Reichel playing with energy, doesnt shy away of contact, grinds it out in the corners, forechecks, backchecks etc. Sure he could produce more but 10 min a night isnt much and playing in fourth line isnt helping either!

I've been pulling for Reichel to figure it out for what seems like years - and I'm still pulling for him - but the clock is ticking and the younger players are either coming or already here. In addition to those young players, there are some veterans who are going to have top-9 spots over Reichel because they produce better and more consistently than Reichel does - guys like Donato, Mikheyev, Teravainen and Bertuzzi. Then throw in guys like Foligno and Dickenson ... where does Reichel fit and who does he subplant?

I feel like he improved a lot year over year in that aspect so if he can continue it he might find himself a good third line player someday.

He has been stuck on fourth line whole season. All those guys you mentioned played a lot more than Reichel, its only natural that the more you play the more you have chances to produce. This was the season to give him chances with talent. He has done well in his role, why not see if there is more. Look what happened to Donato playing with talent and bigger minutes!!

I think he was around the puck more this year and was more active on the forecheck but he was still too easy to take the puck from and didn't win many battles.

In contrast, I thought Moore was outstanding at keeping guys on his hips, protecting the puck and winning 50/50s. I think with Reichel it's a mentality thing. He just has to want it more.

I think you are not giving Reichel enough credit. He is a lot more willing and able to battle than before also he has gotten stronger. And he doesnt take shifts off.

Anyone want to backtrack after I got lots of disagreement on the Dickinson stuff? He’s beyond gone. Got butthurt probably about losing time to youngsters. Probably explains the argument with Foligno at practice and leaving practice early. Maybe they started practicing specials and he took his ball and went home. You know the Levshunov pick, the Richardson, the Dickinson and jones stuff. It’s not hard to figure out what’s going on in this organization. People drop breadcrumbs all the time on the beat. They just don’t say it directly.

I think he showed far more willingness to engage this year he just needs to develop more physically. Will be interesting to see if that happens.

If Dickinson is bitching about kids taking his playing time, then adios. He’s lucky he got to revive his career here. They did not miss him when he went out of the lineup.

What Dickinson situation are you referring to?

They are outright talking in postseason interviews about veterans being angry about losing playing time to youngsters. Foligno is trying to calm Dickinson down while he’s bitching on the ice. Then he disappears for the last part of the season due to injury. It’s not hard to figure out what’s going on.

What was Dickinson saying on the ice?

I wouldn't read into it too much.

Nobody wants to lose ice time, and Dickinson getting sidelined by injury put him in a position where he was watching the team thrive without him.

I'm sure a mental reset over the summer is all he needs.

If he was a UFA this year, yeah he'd be gone. But he's under contract for another year which means he's going to be competing extra hard for his next contract. I'm optimistic he can bounce back.

Dickinson's Blackhawks career average is 16:07 and he averaged 15:42 this year. He averaged 15:37 in the 5 games he played in March coming off injury, before being shut down for the season.

I don't know about the drama...

But IMO "rolling four lines" with Dicky and Bedard in the lineup was silly. When he was playing well (not so much this year) he was a good matchup guy yet often it was the Bedard line with the toughest matchup regardless. Dickinson sits on the bench watching Bedard & Co get caved in by the top lines in the league. It's not using the team's strengths properly, Dickinson doesn't do any better against lesser matchups so you might as well have him stifle the top guys as best he can while helping shelter the kids a bit.

What about the Levshunov pick? Are you saying there were some Hawks that were disgruntled by the Levshunov pick?

No no no. I’m saying that people know things before they happen. They know more about what’s going on but they can’t say things. The hawks are not a super buttoned up team. Powers Laz Seravelli and others leave bread crumbs. We are seeing it now with Carle. We saw it before with the Levshunov pick, with Jones, all that stuff that’s what I meant.

Ah - gotcha, and you're probably right.

Hard to give up on Reichel when he still looks physically immature. If he fills out and keeps playing with jam he can do well here.
