2025 26 Roster…too Soon

Reichel or Dach and Florida 1st for Isaac Howard
Draft Misa

Howard-Nazar-Teravainen
Misa-Bedard-Bertuzzi
Moore-Greene-Mikheyev
Foligno-Dickinson-Veleno
Slaggert

Vlasic-Rinzel
Orlov-Levshunov
Del Mastro-Murphy
Kaiser/Allan

Howard can turn pro this summer and start playing in the NHL sooner with a trade, he is likely posturing with the going back stuff and its a trade me or sign me move

Would keep Teravainen as he's already under contract and has more of a track record as a 50 point forward versus paying Donato the same deal and hoping his contract year wasn't an anomaly

If Howard is pissed off Tampa did not have the cap to burn a year and sign him this month, he is 16 months away from being a UFA that can sign with anyone which gives him leverage by the day. No Tampa does not have to move him now or even this Summer, but if the relationship is damaged they likely have to move him at some point and the closer to UFA status he gets the less leverage Tampa has. I don't love Howard as a fit size and shape relative to most of our other young forwards, but you take the talent if you can get it at a discount. If the primary piece is Allan, Kaiser, the Toronto 1st or Florida 1st, I would be ecstatic to add Howard to the mix.

In a world where Boesser is turning down 5 years @ 8 and people are speculating he'll get 7 @ 9 per, TT for 2 @ 5.4 becomes a pretty big trade chip and yes I would move him. Buffalo is a team I would target for trade. They have a bunch of RFA's to resolve this Summer, more NHL (or ready) F than roster spots, a bit tight to the cap (if Peterka/Bowen end up toward the high end to extend....they may have to make some choices and a future for a player may become necessary). Something like TT and one of the late 1st or our 2nds for a pair of Peterka/Kulich/Quinn/McLeod/Rosen could help both teams. TT give a franchise used to losing a player used to winning that has a good playoff track record if they can get there. Hawks trade a pick a few years away from helping and a player who won't be around when they turn the corner for a couple players in the sweet spot of ready to help now (or soon) that will be around when the corner gets turned.

I think a guaranteed salary is not in play to acquire Howard. unless it's a lopsided deal in favor of Tampa. So, Reichel, even though his salary is low, probably not in play. Not sure how much minors time Dach has left, but I tend to doubt that he would be enough. I think the Toronto 1st round pick and maybe a slight sweetener ought to do it.

List of Blackhawks RFAs and UFAs

Restricted free agents, which isn’t a large list really

Arvid Soderblom
Philip Kurashev
Wyatt Kaiser
Louis Crevier
Victor Soderstrom
Aku Raty
Jalen Luypen
Antti Saarela

Unrestricted free agents, Maroon and Martinez announced their retirements

Ryan Donato
Andreas Athanasiou
Cole Guttman
Zach Sanford
Brett Seney

Who get contracts?

Donato might take a $5 mill for 3 years to get done

Guttman is probably gone, I thought he might look good with out other NCAA prospects, hate to see him cut loose

All the RFAs(except Saarela) should be qualified, but I’m always shocked at how Davidson handles qualifying

kurashev should not be qualified IMO if you can sign Donato to 5x 3 you do it for sure! He likely wants more term though and someone will offer it to him...and I have been one of his biggest supporters...

Not sure if it was just a response to the flat cap but RFAs haven't been getting qualified all over the league for the last 3-4 years. Look at the list from last year: Every Player to Not Receive a Qualifying Offer in 2024 - The Hockey Writers Free Agents Latest News, Analysis & More

Luypen, Raty and Saarela are unlikely to be qualified. Kurashev probably won't be qualified either. His QO would be 2.25M.

Räty has contract to play in Finland. Don't know how strict that contract is.

If they do win the lottery does that put an OS involving the 26 first on the table for the right player? Or is it basically Knies and nothing else that is worthy of such an OS? Knies already said he doesn't want to go that route.

I think knies is more likely to get traded if negotiations stall than offer sheeted

I like Knies....a lot...but I am not giving up a top 5 pick in a very good '26 draft for him. Even if we win the draft lotto next month, we are not eliminated from #1OA/McKenna by virtue of if we finish dead last we can stay in the #1OA slot and it NOT be consider "winning" the Lotto as we don't move up. Granted those are very small odds (finish dead last AND "win" the lotto), but if you hand McKenna to the Leafs, Davidson will likely be unemployed. Beyond McKenna, Roobrooeck has been really good in the OHL this season, Swede's have a couple elite F prospects in (Stenberg/Bjork) and there are 2 RHD prospects projected in the top 5-10 (which we dont need but everyone else generally does which should help leave better than normal F's on the board)

Bourque offer sheet 1 year, 2nd round max. Makes it really tough on Dallas.
Yeap....Dallas and Ottawa are the only teams a sheet MIGHT work with to actually acquire a player. Dallas may be so tight to the cap (moreso if they are manuevering to keep BOTH Benn and Duchene) that they might listen to giving away Marchment to take Dumba. In that case, if you can;t move Murphy, you simply buyour Dumba

Does Ottawa have any players worth sending an offer sheet? I looked at their cap situation and didn’t see any forwards that seemed like they’d be worth it.

I like the idea of one for Borque and stiffing it to a divisional opponent at the same time.

Not specific to the Hawks because he wouldn’t be needed but it would be fun to see Columbus send Bouchard an offer in the 11M range. Effectively could be their Jiricek replacement. At the same time they can bet on themselves a bit and the two first rounders being mid to late ones. Who cares about a second or third round pick when you’re getting a guy of that caliber.

Peterka would be great but can’t imagine they’d let him walk at any cost. McLeod could be interesting if the draft pick cost is low, which it should be, but again they might just match that too.

If Moore is destined to be a winger then I’d love McLeod as a 3C who can probably play 2C in a pinch. 52% at the dot this year and 6’3, both would be welcomed additions.

McLeod or Quinn are probably the pieces to target. By my math, they will have 23.20 in cap to resign Peterka, Byram, Quinn, McLeod and fillout the roster with a #7 D & backup goalie. I've seen projections for Byram at 7+ per year and got to think Peterka is at least that which filling out the last D and G slots at minimum ELC guys leaves 7.2 to deal with Quinn and McLeod which makes both ripe for 2nd round compensation offers. I still think a trade is a better approach then offersheets.
