I think you will see more hockey trades this off season and the next because most people under contract are going to have good value compared to the crazy amount that will be thrown at UFA's guys.

there are Rumors that over the next few years 1/3 or more of the teams (hawks probably not one) will have internal cap that is less then real cap. all of those guys would probably have great value (murph and TT) good in (bert and Dick) if it was me I sign Donato to a 4 X 4.75 year deal (he is 28 bday april 9th) try and sign Marner 7 X for a 100 million with 25-30 mil deferred to get the AAV down to $13M. then look to make a few hockey trades for a few of the above with guys that might be a be a few years younger. I know Murph has good value at the TDL (which is 50/50) so he might make sense to wait.

A Peterka offersheet is going to be in the cost you a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd range (aka....above 5 million per year) which is a nonstarter. Peterka in no way shape or form is worth a top 5 pick in the '26 draft which is really good at the top end beyond McKenna.

if they are worried about a offer sheet or they hear about one or the negiaoation are not going well they could trade him for a good package before that. that is why we might be able to get in the mix. this is what happened with SAAD he wanted $6 and we wanted to pay $5 and we thought a offer sheet was possible and it was better to get back AA and asset then just draft capital. if you are Buff would you rather have TT and Florida's first or a late 1st 2nd and 3rd

IMHO, Knies is not worth our '26 1st, 2nd, & 3rd which is what an offersheet would cost the Hawks. Barring something like signing Marner, adding another legit top 6 F, and a top 4 D (none of which is likely to happen and most of which we should not even be trying to do at this point), that 1st is likely top 5 in a really good draft at the top. No guarantee who we draft with that pick turns out to be even as good as Knies, but there is a fair chance that they COULD end up an elite top 20-30 in the league player which this team needs at some point.

Rolling a D of 1 guy over 23 (Murphy who is likely to be hurt part of the season at that) is a recipe for growing pains and a bottom 5 finish and there really is no way around that for next year, again unless you acquire a top 4 D (which we absolutely should not be). Let the kids play, make mistakes, learn, and hopefullly the backend is ready to be a strength for 26/27 season with another top 5 prospect from the '26 draft on the way to help.

Minnesota Wild make sense for an offersheet to Knies. Local boy (so he would probably be willing), team is flush with cash with most of Parise/Suter buyouts going away, only Rosi and Kaprizov to deal with over the next 2 Summers, and hard to imagine their 1st not being in the back half of the round.

Slated to draft 17th overall

-If they stayed at 17 I wanted Noel Gunler, thought he was legit, he eventually went 41st to CAR
Still trying to figure out pro hockey in AHL

-If they moved up I wanted Seth Jarvis, thought he was a future Dave Bolland type…he eventually went 13th to CAR
He’s a proven NHL player


-If they moved down I wanted JJ Peterka, moved his goal scoring ability…he eventually went 34th to BUF
He’s a proven NHL player

As we know the Hawks stayed at 17 and drafted Lukas Reichel…whom they saw and loved from the exhibition game

Didn’t realize Granlund is as old as Nelson and almost as old as Tavares and Duchene.

Adding Marner and Misa would certainly be a significant talent boost to go along with many of the young players already here - BUT - what will be even better is the 2026/27 lineup when the following players will NOT be on the team: Foligno, Dickenson, Murphy, Brodie, and Weber's LTIR cap hit will be off the books.

Webers LTIR cap hit isn’t prohibitive in any way.
