Hawks do need to be selective with FAs. Pick the right ones. This is a poor year for FAs and we are not at the point of cashing in. If we get him for a decent deal great. No need to break the salary structure yet and especially for him. He is no savior like Hossa so quit comparing the two. One was a monster the other mental midget, Toronto microscope or not.

The feeling I’m getting is free agency isn’t going to be the play from the Hawks this year. On defense, way too many kids pushing, so they’ll go young with Murphy being the only true vet back there.

For forwards, they’ll push hard for Marner. But if Marner isn’t available, they’ll likely pass on forward free agency. The forward group for next year is already kind of crowded.

Do look for Davidson to enter the trade market for a young top 6 forward however, whether they get Marner or not.

Agreed. I think they should trade for Lafrenierre

I'm feeling more and more like Reichel is going to get traded. Not so much because they need to give up on him but because some team will take a flyer on him and a roster spot will be open to someone else.

I hate saying this but with all of the content being released by the Hawks' social media team, I get the impression that he has a laid back personality and doesn't seem particularly bright. Can any of you think of a true impact NHL player with those traits?

Not gonna lie, I've had those same exact thoughts about him coming across as pretty dumb.

Maybe it's just a language/cultural barrier and him not coming across great, but plenty of other guys with english as their second language don't have that issue.

Vlasic pretty much said the same about him.

I hated his play when he was first getting call ups. He’s been better. There’s still something there IMO so I’m good with being patient. Wouldn’t lose sleep if he was traded though.

Pretty much where I’m at. I’d like to see what he might be able to do in a 4th line role with a real coach because he’s never played in the NHL with a real coach….

But if he’s traded meh whatever won’t care at all even if the return is another Alex Nylander 2.0 type return.

is the suggestion that Reichel is not a bright person? there are probably a lot of 'dumb' good pro athletes

Yeah but he comes across as dumb even by hockey player standards to me.

Vlasic suggested that he's not a bright guy? interesting

Think we really need to use the offer sheet this summer. Cap is going up but not yet. Dallas is an easy target. Overpay for Borque but get him for a 2nd

Agreed. I feel like they will if Marner doesn't sign and we are left with only trade options.

Jack Quinn could also apparently be squeezed out of Buffalo cap wise, and be prime for an offer sheet.

That one is an easy no for me.

He's on pace for 18 goals and 48 points as a winger, and you have to give up assets to bring him here, and then he's eating up 7.4M in cap space. Not to mention he's been mostly bad throughout his 5 year career so far and has 7 more years under contract at that 7.4M hit after this season.

Easy pass.

Buffalo is not all that ripe for an offersheet. They have 72.29 commited leaving 23.21 to deal with RFA's Bowen, Peterka, Quinn, & McLeod and only needing a backup goalie and bottom pairing D to fill out a roster.

Buffalo is probably more of a trade target in that Adams has been the GM going on 5 years, lots of high picks, and not seeming to make any movement in their rebuild.

I don't like playing games with offer sheets . Unless some team try's it with our players , then give them the works and go after 3 players of there's If it makes sense to do so. We have way too many young players with potential (targets for offer sheets) to protect down the road

This is what I thought too, not that I had much knowledge of their team.

But I will copy what one of their fans said on the main boards, who knows the situation much better than either of us:

Buffalo has as fee RFAs in byram, peterka, Quinn, Levi, McLeod, Kozak, JBD
UFA Reimer

Right now signed 25/26 looks like

XXX-Kulich-Thompson
Zucker-Norris-Tuch
Greeneay-XXX-Benson
Malendtyn-Krebs-Lafferty
XXX XXX

Samurlson-Dahlin
Power-XXX
XXX-Clifton
Bryson

UPL
XXX

Dead space from skinner

Cap used is a little over $72M for 10/5/1
If Kossk. JBD, and Levi cost a combined $4M to resign for 11/6/2 at $76M

FYI---benson is still waivers exempt next sesson

They have 19M to sign byram, quinn, peterka, and mcleod.

Ig McLeod is 4, byram is 6, peterka 7, then that leaves 2 for quinn

Quinn is likely an OS target for a 2nd comp.offer

Summer 2026....

UFAs- Tuch, Clifton, bryson, malenstyn, lafferty
RFAs- Benson, Krebs, Rosen
Skinner dead weight goes up $2M( it drops $4M for yrs after)

Cap space will be tight summer 2026 too. Benson could be OS vulnerable

I've wondered with Buffalo if there is a deal to be had for Peterka (especially if his price tag does approach 7 per) built around Teuvo. Teuvo has that winning pedigree....mostly in the playoffs and having had reasonable success in them. Teuvo at 5.4 with a sweetener probably makes some sense for Buffalo to both change their mix and make the cap more comfortable. I wonder if some combo of Teuvo, either of the Leafs 1st/Florida 1st, and/or a random 2nd would be enough to land Peterka and one of Kulich/Rosen.

I don't see an offersheet working to actually get a player moving. You may be able to make things uncomfortable and maybe even force them into the 10% Summer overage, but in the end they probably have enough breathing room to keep who they really want.

I think it's much more likely to get the guy who is least valuable for it's team (in this case because of cap squeeze and others being ahead of him at this position), than someone who is good enough already to be a core piece or at the very least the major asset to move in a trade for a better, star player (with TT is definitely not).

Picks have literally zero value for Buffalo, as it's been pointed out many times the last few months. They're in a too long rebuild, they have a gazillion prospects who are close to being ready. In their situation the only thing that makes sense is to keep the team or upgrade it by sending a few lesser pieces for one bugger piece (something like Peterka + for Petersson for example).

I could see TT for Quinn, but no way for Kulich or Rosen who are worth more to them.

You have to think about these trades from the other team's perspective too. It's why I linked their own fan's breakdown who follows their team 24/7 and knows the exact situation and context.

Jack Quinn seems like a perfect target for the Blackhawks.

Allan and Dickinson for Quinn?
