for a young goaltender he has put up solid numbers. Most goal tenders dont get 90 games before turning 24 and for the most part has been about league AVG. he was not great last night but there were a ton of HD chances and those go in at a much higher rate. .800 or something like that.

I only recall one softie past Knight... and even that was a snipe of a shot. He was left alone all night long.
I was thinking about Pasta as well. Depends entirely on him and Boston, but the team has traded away vets and could be going full rebuild vs just a retool (this is still more likely though unfortunately).
If he's available, he would be a fantastic target to cash in our assets for.
Id trade a lot for him. Top prospects like Korchinski, Moore, Lardis, Kantserov, top picks like the 26 1st, 27 1st, any of the 26/27 late 1sts, any of the lesser prospects like Reichel, Allan etc, any roster player like Bertuzzi, TT etc if needed.
For example a package of Bertuzzi, Korchinski, Moore, 26 1st, 25 Tor 1st would surely be enticing for both sides.
I hope he becomes available.
it just does not feel like there will be many teams this off season looking for futures? which teams are going to be doing that? I cant think of any that has a valuable player that they would trade for futures. IE like we did with CAT and Hagel. I hope the UFA market of for forwards is crazy EXP and we can move Bert and actually sign a top 6 guy. IE at a much higher price. Bert has a 12 team NTC.
he's a career .906 in 85 career starts at the age of 23. only 15 goalies have played 80+ games with a .906 or better before age 24 since the '05 lockout. of the names who show up on that last, only pavelec, lehtonen, neuvirth, oettinger, and varlamov (5 of 15) haven't won either a vezina, a jennings, or a cup. then consider that he's done this at a time where the league has set or tied its cap era record for lowest average save percentage for three seasons running now.
Stellar NTDP pedigree, went #13OA in his draft year, WJC shutout verse Canada in gold medal game, outstanding in college, NHL regular at age TWENTY, bellow .908 save percentage once (never bellow .901), on Wheelers/Pronman's best under 25 list as top goalie just out on Athletic this week.
Let's hope Knight ends up more like Demko/Oettinger than Jack Campbell all of which had similar profiles/pedigree at age 24.

so which is it? are the numbers he's putting up "not great", or are they being inflated by playing for a good team? or are you trying to have your cake and eat it to, and you genuinely believe that without the panthers he's worse than soderblom or even mrazek? his sv% was better than bob's before he was traded. you are grasping a straws, and a tremendously dumb individual.

Do you think the team that plays in front of him matters? Knight played for a loaded NTDP team, a top ranked BC team and then in Florida which has the best NHL team. That is a factor is it not in regards to his stats?
Do you think Soderblom would have a better save percentage in Florida? Marc Andre Fleury went from a 1.98Gaa and a .928 with Vegas to a 2.95GAA and a .908 for the Blackhawks. That is a MASSIVE difference isn't it? Did Fluery automatically become average overnight?
Taking out his burn a year at the end of the season coming out of college, Knight has played 3 seasons in Florida. One they missed the playoffs. One they were really good. One Presidents trophy (so yes best in the NHL), This season they are very good but hard to argue best in the NHL.
Beyond all that....Knight has been a part of why those teams are what they are. He and Bob have put up very similar numbers throughout Knight's tenure in Florida as in no significant difference in GAA or save %.
you said his numbers weren't great. i pointed out that you are wrong. now, because you know that you are wrong, you've decided to change the subject from his numbers being "not great" to being a result of playing behind good teams. i can tell you have really impressed yourself with this rhetorical gambit.
i do not think soderblom would have put up 80+ games with a .900+ sv% for the florida panthers before age 24, no. it's completley irrelevant to the conversation you started here though.

Exactly. He has played on great teams so it's easier to put up solid numbers. Expecting him to come here and put up solid numbers is a massive stretch. Jeremy Swayman was an all world goalie and signed a massive contract playing with a great Bruins team. Now Swayman is one of the worst goalies in the NHL. So what is it? Was Swayman just a product of a great team in front of him?

His numbers aren't great. They are decent.
Knight has a career save percentage of .906 and a 2.77GAA playing on elite team.
Petre Mrazek has a career save percentage of .906 and a 2.84GAA playing on bum teams.
I guess Mrazek is great too huh.
mrazek played less than half the nhl games spencer did in his age 20-23 years. he also did so at the literal historical peak of save percentages when they averaged nearly two full hundredths of a percentage point better than today (.894 is the average today, .911 was the average in 14-15). again, you are grasping at straws.

Grasping at straws? Exactly what you are doing. Age doesn't correlate to increased save percentage.
good save percentage at a young age correlates to being a long time starter and indicates elite upside. hence why every single other goalie (with the exception of michal neuvirth) to put up numbers like he has at his age in the cap era was a long time starter, and why 10/15 of them have won a cup or some kind of league wide award for their play.

Exactly? Exactly what? He played on ONE "great" President's Cup winner (that got bounced in round one). He played on one mediocre non playoff team and one very good team (this season...but a ways to go to "great" with their off season losses despite being much better post TDL). To attempt to portray Knight as being in front of a juggneraut his entire time in Florida is intellectually dishonest at best.
Swayman interesting comparison....a guy that didn't become an NHL full time regular until age 23....you know Knight's current age where he has 3 full time NHL seasons under his belt already.

look, if you think that quality of team is a confounding variable here, then it is impingent upon you to demonstrate that with actual evidence. i'm not going to do even more work just so i can spoonfeed your obtuse ass more truth you refuse to digest. go look at the list of goalies with 80+ nhl games played before age 24 in the cap era, do an analysis of the teams they played on, and get back to me with your findings. then this will actually start to be more like a conversation and less like me banging my head on a stupid person.

Being young has zero to do with an improved save percentage. A 20 year old won't have a better save percentage when he is 21 nor will it be higher when he is 22 nor will it be higher when its 23.....

I would say he played on a great team for his entire career so far.
Dallas is a team worth targetting for trades or maybe even an offersheet for Borque. They are going to be tight enough to the cap that something is going to have to give. Assuming Sequin is healthy (he is supposed to be back one of the last couple of regular season games) and won't waive his NMC, the Stars go into the offseason with 15 million in cap space needing 6 F and 2 D to fill out a roster. Benn and Duschene come off the books and were making 9.5 and 3 each.....Benn has room for a haircut but doubt Duschene takes any less than 3. I would think they want to keep at least one if not both. Dumba (3.75) and Marchment(4.5) are a useless piece and a decent piece Dallas would likely start with to try to free some cap, but that probably is bare minimun needed to keep Benn and Duchene and just get back to 15 million for 8 roster spots.

Now take out last season....you know the one Knight did not play in the NHL and let me know. Also why stop at 3 when Knight was a full time NHL'er going back 4? Probably a coincidence you drew the line at 3 seasons one of which Knight didn't play and you cut out a non-playoff season for Florida.

would you say being a good goaltender when you are young might have something to do with projecting how good a goaltender will be out into the future? e.g., is it fair to say that being an above average goalie for a great team bodes well for the prospect of that goalie being above average or better once this team is better, and once he has more experience? he has been entrusted with a role very few are at that age, and he has succeeded relative to the league scoring environment. it isn't unrealistic at all to expect he should be a servicable starter in the league for years to come, barring injuries or falling off an unforseen cliff.
