2025 26 Roster…too Soon

I would ask Dallas about Seguin. Similar to the Hall trade. Pay them a 5th to take him on. He's making 9.85. Dallas needs to clear a lot of cap.

Seguin is old, but has been decent last two years. Worst case, he's a veteran 2C/RW who puts up 45 points. Best case, he plays RW with Bedard and helps the PP tremendously.

I would also see if they would move Mason Marchment as well, but I'm getting Tyler Bertuzzi 2.0 vibes.

He's got 2 years at 9.85M and he's coming off another major injury. I don't think the Hawks should give up anything for him, whether it's a 5th or not. They could take him on if Dallas wants to pay them to do it.

I'm fine with that. My man idea was just getting him.

I was thinking about Marchment + Dumba as well to clear cap for them.

Marchment would be really good for the young guys.

Option 1:
I could see them OS Bourque for the highest 2nd round compensation.

Option 2:
Ask them about Seguin and what they offer to take on him. If they would offer Bourque to take on him I'd accept that deal.

Sequin has a full NMC and already on the team guys waive the full NMC for. ZERO chance Sequin agree to waive his NMC to move from a no income tax state he has made him home in for a dozen years to go from one of the cup favorites the next few seasons to a lottery favorite.

I think the plan is still to send Lev back to the AHL for the last few bunch of games, but no way he's not a pencil in for next year's roster no?

His play would have to heavily deteriorate for that to happen. I think at this point he and Murphy are going to be 2/3rds of the right side.

Kaiser is also showing well, and Crevier has been good enough for a spot too. Obviously Del Mastro at this point is a roster mainstay.

That's a lot of young guys, and that's without Korchinski and Allan. Something will have to give. Soderstrom even is a potential wildcard if he wants to come over.

Vlasic - Levshunov
Del Mastro - Murphy
Kaiser - Crevier
Korchinski - Allan
Soderstrom

I honeslty don't know how it will shake out. Gonna be a nice battle in camp for the young guys.

One thing is clear though, we should not bring any vets in the off-season. The kids are more than ready (and in numbers!) to start playing regularly.

I don't know if Crevier is going to get signed. There's an awful lot of hit and miss there and you always need one physical D man to make sure nobody's taking liberties. Kaiser has looked good in attacking mode this West Coast trip.....I can see him getting a qualifying 2 year contract.

I would make a strong offer sheet for Knies. Marchment looks like a nice sand paper add. They got to get bigger and nastier with the forwards......

I think he will for sure. Its not easy finding steady RD that arnt going to cost you anything.

After giving this an absurd amount of thought, I've come to the conclusion that this isn't the off season to splurge on ufa's, rfa's or even make a big trade.

This roster has to improve, yes. But we are multiple Stars away from being a playoff team. What is the point of signing guys to long term contracts and huge deals only to finish 7th worst next year and be stuck there for awhile?

This franchise tried that once already. Before they were ready to win they traded for Havlat. He was a fine, skilled player. He was a 1st liner for us. The team was still filled with stop gaps like Jeff Hamilton, (lol remember him) Smolinski, Bondra and Arkhipov. The team still sucked. They didn't take the next step until the Stars came in (Toews and Kane)

The team has a lot of good, young players. Give them an elevated role next year along with signing a couple top 6 or middle 6 forwards and a decent D. Draft who you draft this year. Hopefully that player turns into a star as well. Finish between 4th and 6th worst next year, make the draft pick and then look for a star player(s) in free agency.

The ufa's are just so bad this year. Not too many of them make sense.

This is where I am at too. If you somehow can convince Marner to sign here, you take it and run. When you realize he ain't coming, I am not committing big money and 7 years to the next tier (Boesser, Eihlers, etc). Next season should be a super young group of D for the Hawks that wile that helps force feed their development in the NHL, it was almost certainly come with growing pains. Let the kids play, take your lumps, get a top 5 pick in the McKenna draft and NEXT Summer you are hopefully more attractive to UFA's and have fewer holes you are trying to fill.

Most stars sign with the team they are in and if you don’t take chances with the once that get to be free agent's when they are free, you might end up without any of them and then you are trading for them and paying premium to get them a'la Carolina Hurricanes.

Lee-Bedard-Marner
Misa-Lundell-Nazar
Teravainen-Donato-Mikheyev
Slaggert-Dickinson-Dvorak
Foligno

Vlasic-Levshunov
Del Mastro-Murphy
Kaiser-Allan
Crevier

Rinzel Boisvert Moore Lardis Kantserov on the way.

If ye want to add next year's version of Hall/Bertuzzi I say to what end?

Teams is a dumpster fire in many ways from the inside and that needs to be corrected first. Bedard is what he is and has to learn the game the right way while getting top minutes which often leave us caved in, there's been some improvement but the offense will have to come back while learning the other parts of the game, how long will that take? Who knows..

Bert has been abysmal. Foligno not as good as last year, Dickinson not as good and no words for whatever the heck Kurashev is, omfg.

Outside of Jones/Brodie the D at least hold court on most nights.

It's a mess in that while having a good to great year from Donato/Mikheyev/Teuvo the offense is still a total drag and we really need 6 significantly better forwards. Some of that will have to come from internal growth, Bedard improving, Nazar growing, other prospects too. It's really all about that.

But just adding guys to add guys might not mean squat in terms of wins/losses without the prospects improving. The players who surprised us with good play this year might suck next year if they're even on the roster! So if you get a good guy or two in the offseason that in theory improves the roster you might have to subtract regardless as other players fall back down to earth, or off the cliff for that matter. Ouch.

How many forward lines do we have who will reliably outscore their matchup right now? (even with good defense & goaltending)

Adding a star up front would make it more fun but the next steps have to be home grown.

Is everyone forgetting why they traded for Shea Weber’s contract? It was to avoid the exact scenario they were in last year, having to pay crappy players on longer term deals.

Cross Bennett off the list he’s going back to Florida. I believe Plan A is Marner. But the rest of free agency is absolute garbage. You do not want to sign these players to big money. That’s why the Shea Weber trade was clever. If you strike out on Marner, just let the kids play, don’t have to worry about the cap floor this year.

Now you haven’t bloated your team further and next year is the McDavid and Kaprizov free agency, you have plenty of room to take a run at them.
