He can certainly have a chat with the team that drafts him and get a sense for how they envision his situation playing out next year, but if he signs an ELC and attends an NHL training camp he'd be ineligible for the NCAA, at least under present rules.
Hmmm rule changes make it confusing.

What if he commits to a college and doesnt sign his ELC until after camp if he is good enough if hes not he goes to school? Probably some restrictions on that.

I would like to trade for Alex Tuch in the off-season. He's a fast big bodied winger who can play in the top 6. It would have to be a 3 team deal likely though to convince Buffalo.

A dream at this point, but offersheeting Cuylle away from the Rangers would be another player in that same mold.

I would love to find these type of players for the next 2-3-4 years while our skilled smaller guys break in.

Donato will help. Bennett would be a nice target, although he's a center and we need wings.

Maybe swing for bigger targets like Koneckny, Forsberg or Lindholm. Players who can be actual partners to our smaller prospects coming for the next 3-4 years, and win battles and be hard on pucks and in tough areas.

Centers can play and excel at wing much easier than wings moving to center.

I definitely can see Duchene on the FA market as an add

One trade that I can see is Tippett. He’s a burner and a finisher. I think Philly wants to further tear it down. They are weak at LW and the RWs on their roster apparently struggle when switched to LW.

I think they would bite on Reichel and the Leafs first. Maybe a throw in prospect like a Ludwinski

Tippett would be a good add, but Leafs 1st, Reichel, and Ludwinski doesn't get it done

lol I’m not trading shit for Tippett. He’s a one trick pony who’s trick isn’t even that good and he’s overpaid as hell.

In regards to next year, Korchinski is looking like the odd man out here. Vlasic and EDM on the left side, Lev and Rinzel on the right side, Allan, Kaiser and Crevier as bottom pairing options, that’s the future.

I’d dangle Korchinski and get the best top 6 option available, before his stock falls any further. If we end up with Misa, even better because he probably plays. If they can sign Marner, well that’s just icing on the cake, and the forward roster is now full in this timeline.

Guys literally hit 27 and 28 goals the past two years under Tortz of all people

We need to get someone for Bedard. This draft is also supposed to be terrible after 15 and I think they are about to sell on Reichel here. I don’t really see a fit for him in our lineup going forward. I also don’t think he has much value at this point. Ludwinski was a terrible pick from the get go and hasn’t progressed at all.

As far as Korchinski I expect he’s gonna be another chip they can trade. Hard pass on Marner. He won’t ever win anything of note. Leafs are gonna pay up with him anyways.

I'd try to get Peterka or Quinn. Not sure what it takes to get one of them, but I think both have potential to be a fit and for the future. Rather pay to get them and know what we'd be getting.

Lots of picks and a LHD to get it done.

Not sure if Boeser would be interested, but I'd try to get him here as UFA. I think I'd prefer him as main UFA target.
I know we should look after a Center, but I don't think there are Top 6 options out there (lots can change on the trade market after the season is done).

If we look for a depth and PK Center, I'd go with my bias and say I want Nico Sturm. He was on the Avs when they won, he got his contract and got traded to Florida. Something about him if Contenders see him as rental and fit for a run.
I think he's a type of player I'd look for in Free Agency.

I have a feeling we end up with Hagens in the Draft. Don't know why, just a feeling.

I wouldnt hate Korchinski deal like that, but I really believe in Korchinski. I think you let Vlasic, EDM, and Korchinski handle the left side next year with Levshunov Murphy (until TDL) Crevier Allan Kaiser on the right, let Rinzel cook in the AHL and let their play decide who stats. The actual odd man out is Allan, he needs to be traded for his own good. Loving Kaiser EDM Lev Crevier Kaiser right now. Need to let it play out with new coach to see who he likes.

Crazy to think that in the Colorado game, every player that dressed other than Donato, Kaiser, and Martinez is already signed for next season.

If Donato and Kaiser re-sign, and you replace Martinez with Crevier or Korchinski, that could theoretically be the roster for next season. I don't think it will but that would be very disappointing...

I hope people understand you cannot make players come here. Some FAs just won’t and want to win now. So my expectations are pretty low.
I totally get that but that's part of the reason why these final games are going to be so important. If they keep playing like they did against Colorado, players are going to see what's coming first hand. The Hawks will still be at the bottom of the standings but Boeser and Ehlers are on the schedule and they might be impressed by what they see.

There are also prospects, draft capital, and cap space up the wazoo. Chicago being an original six team without the scrutiny of the others and a very livable city doesn't hurt. We're almost certainly not getting Marner but if we have a strong finish, I'll bet we'll end up with some guys on the next tier.

I wouldn't count out Gajan quite yet. Yes his numbers are bad - quite bad but he's come on strong since returning from injury. And if you look at some of his tape, he's capable of doing incredible things.

There is a lot that goes into a goalies season. The team in front of him really matters. I think Gajan is still a part of the future. You have Knight and Soderblom currently with Commesso but I wouldn't be shocked if Commesso asks for a trade after next season if he is blocked from an NHL spot. Gajan would then step in.

You're correct, but that doesn't mean we have draws such as Chicago and Bedard (for a winger). As long as the money talks to them nicely some players will want that too.

Yup.

It's an exciting destination for drafted players.

But 28+ years old and haven't won a Cup yet? Not so much.
Agree, which is why I hope we dip into the RFA market for someone in the 22-27 age range via trade or even taking a stab at an offer sheet. Peterka/Quinn (Buf), Vilardi (Win), Tsyplatkov/Holmstrom (NYI), Knies (Tor), McTavish (Ana), or Cuylle (NYR) would be interesting tagets.

If the Leafs resign Marner/Tarveres, I would expect the raise for Marner and the haircut for Taveres to still put the pricetag at 20-21 million combined to keep both. That would make things tight to hang onto Knies at the pricepoint of around 5 per which will be the cutoff for compensation going from a 2nd to a 1st & 3rd. The Leafs would certainly match a 5x5 or 5x6 offersheet and figureout how to make cuts (moving Domi would be the logical step)....but...the possibility of a sheet and how tight that makes things in response may create some interest in making a trade. The are pretty thin on LHD option coming and we have late 1st to package with a D prospect. One of EDM, Kaiser, or Allan with the Toronto 1st should get a conversation started. If we draft Schaefer, I would put Korchinski on the table for a Knies or McTavish deal.

The only way you're pricing a team out on an RFA offer sheet is if you get into 1st round pick compensation territory.

Chicago trading away their 2026 1st round pick would be monumentally stupid. This team is going to be bottom 5 again next year.

Which is why I made the point of 5 million which will be the cutoff above which it becomes your 1st (which the Hawks absolutely under virtually no circumstance should be moving). I don't think you can win a helpful RFA at an offer under 5 per....but, the threat of one (by someone not even necessarily us) might get someone more willing to talk trade where a late 1st and a piece would be considered. Offersheets rarely create player movement (save the Blues working the Oilers last year).

With the cap going up and the next drafts looking strong, can anyone think of a single player that is vulnerable to an offer sheet?
