2025 26 Roster…too Soon

And don't forget, when Toronto signed Tavares, they were already competitive. The Hawks would be signing a 28-year-old to a stupid contract having just finished 2nd last in the league. Now is the perfect time to spend big on old players.
I think Marner is gunna age like a Panarin, Kane, Tavares, Stamkos etc... Thats his pedigree.

The next 3-5 years matter too. Bedard has to get better players around him. The Blackhawks have to move forward and not stagnate. Winning hockey games matters.

You would get him for his 28-35 seasons. In 7 years we have a Jamie Benn/Marchessault/Seguin on our hands in Marner thats not the worst thing in the world. He could be 8% of the cap by then.

We gotta stop with this Bedard pity. You don't use Bedard as a crutch to justify shitty roster management.

Signing players like Marner is what you do when you have a roster ready to take the next step.

It's going to be so f***ing nice to get past July 1st and have Marner sign somewhere else to end this nonsense. As if you need any more reason to dislike Marner and roast him for being a wilting flower, what would it even say about him if he were to sign here? Because he's not coming here to win. Not any time soon. This wouldn't be like the Hossa signing. This would be a guy coming here purely because CHI offered him the most money. That's not a guy you want, which is already made obvious by his play.

Bedard doesn't want to play with a playoff bum

He wants to play with winners

Theres no Bedard pity. I would like to see him reach his full potential. I think playing him with elite players instead of Kurashevs Donatos Folignos and Mikheyevs will help him do that.

Its not shitty roster management just because you say so. Thats your guess that it wouldnt work out. Your talking in absolutes.

It would say that he would want top dollar, a great city, a wealthy organization that treats its players right and has the opportunity to help the team get back to winning in the next few years.

If that's the case then he's probably asking for a trade out of Chicago. This team without a big move or two is still really far away from even sniffing the 8 seed. Without any movies I would think at a minimum 2 season where they aren't even close to a playoff spot. My guess would be year 5 of Bedard's career with or without a big move is when they're finally pushing for the playoffs.

I'm not sure KD's leash is long enough to let it play out organically. If they finish bottom 5 again, which I assume they do if they don't sign anyone... then he's going to be close to the hot seat at that point and might be spending just to keep his job.

Bedard is going to get to his peak no matter who he plays with next year. If anything, squeezing water out of rocks now will help him way more down the line than playing with Marner ever could.

Giving a loser a 14M avv, 7-year contract at 28-years-old when your team just finished 2nd last in the league is shitty roster management no matter how you spin it in your mind BHawk21. He's going to be leaving his prime just as the rest of the young Blackhawks are entering theirs. It makes no sense.

He can get that anywhere else and not have to "get back to winning" in a "few years".

The three bolded are willing to bang along the glass and cycle low. Does Marner even know where the corner is? Not saying he can't be of value in his 30s, but those are not comparable players.

I like Marner. However, I see a lot of shitty habits in his game that Bedard also has (obviously compounded at this point) that heneeds to work on eradicating and I do wonder if it would be the best idea to have a guy like Marner around Bedard. They also seem like 2 pretty similar players and I dont know if I love the idea of having two of these lighter, creative offensive on the same team making 10+ million each

If the Hawks match the top money any other organization sends Marner, I feel like he’ll choose here.

Chicago is premier sports town, while being 5th in terms of popularity among the sports teams, so there’s significantly less pressure. And just being a nice city in general. And closer to home for him than say somewhere in California.

I doubt his wife wants to go to Raleigh or somewhere like that. So just be prepared guys, I think the Hawks are a true front runner for him

I can see Marner signing in the West just so he doesn't have to play as often at Scotiabank Arena. If he stays a Leaf, he's gonna get booed there. If he signs anywhere else, he'll get booed anytime he plays there. He may as well guarantee he only has to experience that once a season.

Probably, because he doesn't do the dirty work necessary to win in the league.
If the hawks sign him it will be critical to add guys who can perform in the playoffs. Marner and Bedard will probably both put up 100+ regular season points together for the next seven years, but you’ll need guys suited for the playoffs around them.

Hopefully Nazar is one of them, he seems like he’ll be. Maybe Frondell/Desnoyers too?

It can work, you just can’t be built like the Leafs. Luckily it seems like the Hawks will have a significantly better defensive core at the least.

I think playoff performers come down mostly to guys who are hounds for the puck. I think Bedard will inevitably be okay just because he’s so talented.

But guys like Nazar and Moore I see having plenty of success in the playoffs just because they work their asses off. Look at Jarvis. Not a big guy but looks awesome because he’s just relentless on the puck.

If Davidson is looking for puck hound, that is definitely Desnoyers by what I’ve seen. Not so much Martone, and I haven’t watched enough of Frondell to say.

So maybe they look more Desnoyers especially if they back channel sign Marner before free agency opens?

Why the hell are you lumping Bedard in with Marner? Marner couldn't hold Bedard's jock strap.

It becomes extremely likely he’s the pick if that happens yes.

It’s funny because last year Bertuzzi admitted he knew he was coming to the Hawks long before free agency opened lol. Foligno called him (Sudbury boys)

There’s so much tampering and the nhl doesn’t even care. But I’m gonna guess Davidson tries trading for Marner and just skip the free agency thing, if he has interest in coming here.
