Our perception of fair or good contracts is about to be turned on it's head. Our oppurtunity in the stupidity of UFA rapid wage increases may be to move a few of Teuvo, Bertuzzi, Dickinson, Mikheyev, Foligno, Murphy for prospects/picks. Guys under contract (even some of the stupid money short term filler we ovepaid on) are going to look like bargains relative to free agency costs. If my choice is Boesser 7 @ 9.1 or Teuvo 2 @ 5.4, I am attaching a nice asset to get Teuvo instead of that rate and term to get Boesser.

Cap hit almost doesn't matter though. Hawks have ton of space and overpaid contracts ending with only Bedard needing new deal after next year and Nazar 2 years after.

I’m very concerned. Murphy only has one year left, and the last thing I want is Davidson to make a trade based on him taking a spot in the lineup and sucking balls every night.

Run an all kids defense, honestly. Give Murphy away and wash your hands of him. He’s approaching double digit own goals this year. He’s slow as dogshit, and constantly out of position.

I’ll cry if they trade Del Mastro. He’s a guy who’s playing tough greasy minutes. You have him homegrown, you’re going to be looking for another him in three years if you trade him away.

Korchinski is more replicated in the future lineup, but still he’s not my first option either. But if you’re forced to choose between the two, Del Mastro is the one who has a unique skillset to this team.

That's not the answer.

Have people actually been impressed with Levshunov after these ~dozen games? He's shown flashes, he has a tantalizing toolkit but he's clearly, clearly not ready for the NHL. His hemmed in zone/60 must lead the NHL and his shift-to-shift consistency is all over the place. You throw him over the boards and you literally do not know what you're going to get.

Unless they come into camp next year and completely blow everyone away, I can't see either Levshunov or Korchinski on the roster to start the year. Not if you're actually trying to be better and not if you actually want these guys to develop properly.

I was referring mostly to term, but also considering what Tavares could do for Bedard in terms of mentoring.

Korchinski and Kaiser might end up being a redundant type of player as well, if they're opposed to letting one of them play the right side if they move on from Murphy...Korchinski just has the draft capital at this point

Plz no Boeser. Just a horrible fit IMO. And if we're gonna swing lets swing bigger. Go for Marner. Throw all the $$$ you possibly can at him. He's worth it 100%. He's been WAAAAAAAYYYYY over PPG for the past 4-5 years and is in the middle of his prime, will be entering his 30's just as we're contending so it would be perfect timeline-wise.

My line combos and D pairs would look fairly similar assuming the Misa and Marner additions.

However you line it up, the "New Core" essentially will become:

Bedard
Misa
Marner
Moore
Nazar
Levshunov
Vlasic
Rinzel
Kaiser
Knight

Then we'll have a ton of other kids that might eventually join that top-end core, or are at least on track to becoming solid depth pieces if nothing else. Guys like Dach, Slaggert, Reichel, Lardis, Vanacker, Spellacy, Boisvert, Del Mastro, Allan, Korchinski, Crevier, etc...
