Speculation: 2025-26 Coaching/Management/Ownership - Read warning in OP before posting

Fail your way to the top!

Decent landing spot for him to be fair.

He'll be pretty safe with a job with Keefe (Keefe was his HC for his entire Marlies career just about) and Colliton runs their PP apparently. He'll be able just to learn without having all the responsibilities.

Time for a new thread as we enter the 2025-26 season.

This thread is about Coaching, Managment, and Ownership. Discussing the Joel Quenneville hire and the issues behind it, will not be permitted here, but can be discussed in the Joel Quenneville thread…

Confirmed with Link: - Ducks hire Joel Quenneville as head coach

Whether you agree or disagree, this is the thread to use, but please no flaming or trolling.

Thank you.

For once in a very long time, I am excited for the season to start. Having Q will definitely lead to changes
Q: it says here Cutter you were removed from the Powerplay lines last year
Cutter: Cronin said I wasn't good enough.
Q: You are going to the top power play unit next season with Carlsson. Why on earth did Cronin have Strome on the powerplay he cannot even score on an empty net.

This time next year he will be 4 and a half years into his tenure. and on his 3rd headcoach.

If they don't see a lot of growth next year I think he will be gone.

I feel like he'll get a couple years with Q at the helm to see what happens.

Unless he really screws up free agency and we become a bottom three team again next season I don't think he'll get the axe quite that soon. Samueli seems like he's getting a little more agitated with all the losing though and is starting to speak publicly about taking the next step, so I guess anything could happen.

I feel like Verbeek has done a largely positive job outside of coaching hires. Killorn is probably the worst signing and it's not going to cripple us, Gudas and Vatrano were good and Strome signing has been OK/fair. I think we all would have liked more for Lindholm (or at least a better player picked with that 1st), but the other trades have mostly been good to great. Finding the right coach could be what makes or breaks his career with the Ducks... if Q works out, he looks like a genius. If he doesn't, we end up Buffalo west.

He's been good training wheels for the Gauthier/Carlsson line.
I'll take Killorn over guys like Hagelin and Gibbons, all I remember from those latter 2 is them skating in circles lol.
Strome needs to be kicked off the Powerplay to make room for Cutter though.

Pat has done a great job bringing in talent that's not just young but also very skilled. that was his probably most important job and he's fulfilled. there's a few weird forward picks in there, but overall it's been very good.

Coaches haven't been great, but I can't really fault him for giving Eakins one more year. And while Cronin looks bad, maybe he will have done some good in terms of instilling a better culture of work ethic etc.

I think signings like Killorn, Gudas, Klingberg (during 22-23) etc get way too much flack. They've all been harmless - Killorn has even been pretty good, maybe he's overpaid for his production, but he's been a valuable player - and it's better than the alternative of having even fewer veterans

Yeah, he's definitely overpaid and probably signed for a year too long, but not a terrible signing. That says something about the signings so far, and as we turn the corner, Verbeek won't have to overpay as much either. That said, I hope he's not on that line next season and the Ducks get a RW that fits better with Leo offensively.

Makes the Q hiring make that much more sense. If I’m going down, I’m going down swinging. Give me the 2nd winningest coach in NHL history, and if I get fired for lack of results so be it, I tried.

Also on his 3rd head coach is a little disingenuous, that’s like an NBA player being a 39% 3pt shooter yet he shoots 1 or 2 three’s a game at the end of the quarter or half …. From his own back court, and you go, well he’s a sub 40% 3 pt shooter on the year….Like technically yeah he’s on his 3rd head coach, but one was a lame duck coach to tank for Bedard. That’s an easy one to explain to any boss.

Pat will get an extension. The only way he gets fired, IMO, is if the Q situation goes horribly, horribly wrong. And I dont just mean bad production. Something would have to leak or there be a situation outside of hockey. GMs just seem to get way more of a leash anymore, and hes done enough positive to outweigh the negatives.

Hes taken swings at big FAs, just didnt have the allure some other teams have had for the guys he was targeting. Whether that be a Cup chase, term, coaching staff, taxes, etc, etc. He hasnt sat by, hes been trying. This seems like a year where he could sell Anaheim to a FA easier with a notable coach, prospect break-thrus, owner support and so on.
