2025 - 2026 Ottawa 67s Season Thread, Part IV

The previous thread the discussion was on muthy players.

I realize that I have been away from the on-ice product for 15 years, but to me, there have not been a lot of true mouthy players.

There are players who chirp, and that is just chest thumping.

The true Mouthy players have died. They are the players like David Ling, Avery, Linseman and Lance Galbraith who used being mouthy as a true weapon to get the other team stars off their game. These were players that knew how to do it and were willing to take what came.

Who was the last 67 that had that ability?

There are varied levels of quality of pest out there. But that doesn’t mean there haven’t been any since 2001!

I think most would suggest Brady Stonehouse was a quality pest. I don’t think you’d get any arguments against McCallum being a good pest.

The challenge now is the max three fights. It has emboldened players. They can get away with a lot more now than the past. Same with stickwork. However, it also has opened the door for smaller players to make an impact. So on the balance, I prefer the added chirping and stickwork while opening the game to smaller players. It is a tradeoff I am willing to accept.

Took a selfish major penalty in a close game, and now is suspended three more. Hope punching Levac was worth it I guess?

I agree Dietsch should be getting huge ice time at practice. Cross ice skating drills lol

Looking to the OHL draft, and we may have a chance to get a great prize. FINLEY BUTLER would be the perfect pick, he can score with the size element, and looking at his stats, is not afraid to get a penalty.

My only question is can we draft him and then put him on the team for the playoffs LOL

The draft is post-season now so that would be a no. LOL.

We will be drafting late this year so if that player is big, can score, and is mean, then I highly doubt he will be available late int he 1st round! Admittedly, I have not paid attention to any of the ‘10 class so I cannot really comment much on our draft options. As we get closer and the OHL Cup is complete, that’s when I will likely dive in more.

Bedkowski with his EIGHTH fight of the season….

Five of those he was Instigated upon. So, he has now reached his three fight limit… LOL. He needs to be a good boy the remainder of the season.

That is the confidence win that this team needed. Will be good to see how they do the rest of the weekend

I am willing to bet we see a lot of Nelson this weekend and downt he stretch. Also would not surprice me to see call ups

Now looking more likely that Kingston is the 1st round opponent.
Shorter travel will be nice, and Ottawa fans will be able to see away games. I agree that that Kingston will be a tougher out than Niagara, but that might be a good thing. Kingston also tends to play a disciplined, low penalty game, which should suit Ottawa fine.

Good effort last night.
If Ottawa and Barrie do meetup in the second round, it should a tightly contested series with a lot of intensity.
67s will need to cleanup the penalty trouble they got away with last night. Maybe also win a faceoff vs Beaudoin every once in a while. I think the penalty stuff will get corrected, they are just showing right now they will not get pushed around.

Fetterrolf is dialed in and looks ready.
I Did not realize that Barrie also has a very competent backup goalie...

I have noticed recently that the likes of VDB, Chitaroni and Ekberg are using their bodies more effectively to finish their checks, and in Ekberg's case, using his body to shield opposing players from the puck. I think the coaching staff has been using this last month to have the entire team ready for playoff hockey. I really like that they can throw out Spiztnagel - Houben - McCue out there to keep up the intensity and pressure in a long series with teams that may be more top heavy with their scoring lines. Those guys may be a able to really wear down the opposition in a long series.

Very entertaining game to watch last night with a playoff like atmosphere. I thought Ottawa showed great team speed and puck movement and their aggressive fore-check gave Barrie fits at times, resulting in numerous offensive zone turnovers and at least one goal. I also agree that the team is "playing bigger" and showing more physicality right across the lineup.

To Barrie's credit they played a very strong 3rd period and had Ottawa on their heels for much of it, but the 67's held fast, didn't get intimidated and hung on to make it to overtime.

Based on last night's performance, I believe that Ottawa's fast, puck pursuit style of play, coupled with strong goaltending and the ability to roll 4 solid lines will be tough to deal with (especially over a long series) and give them as good a chance as anyone at competing with Brantford and Barrie for the Division championship.
