Should be a good series

Dodgers fans complain about the rotation but Yankees routinely misrun the bases and commit odd gaffes

The team that committs less errors will win.

NYY needs it way more than LA does. Roberts though is likely in trouble again next year if they do not win this series. Chris Russo claimed he had info if the Dodgers lost game 5 to SD Roberts was going to be fired so I'd assume its title or bust in 2025 if they fail to get it done here. If LA beats Cole in either game 1 or game 5 I would think they probably win the series.

The moment MLB has been waiting for since the Dodgers entered their own Free Spending Era.
Just came here to say this. This was the stupidest and lamest outcome possible and all it took was nearly $700 million in combined team salaries. Whatever MLB. Bask in the glow of your barrage of advertisements to the teams with the biggest bandwagon following in the country.

MLB needs a salary cap. Like 20 years ago. And we dont have one because this is what we'd have every year if MLB had its way

You do not have a salary cap because the owners do not want one.

Cheap pieces of shit like Nutting in Pittsburgh are more than happy to be subsidized by the Yankees and Dodgers. He makes money before even selling a ticket at PNC.

Rich owners are happy to be able to do what they want with their toy.

MLB's economic model is successful for the owners, they have no incentive to change it. As a Pirates fan, I would love a salary cap... if it came with a salary floor AND rules against with Arizona did in the NHL (taking on LTIR contracts paid by insurance to reach the floor).

This is exactly it. If the owners wanted a cap, they'd get one. You don't even hear the small market/less wealthy owners complaining about a lack of salary cap.

What they really need is to end the deferrals. They have to ban in the next CBA what LA did with that Ohtani contract.

get a salary floor first

teams like Pittsburgh and Florida and Boston skate by with owners refusing to spend any money to improve their team

Honestly, why would Nutting do it? Like he will never vote for a salary cap/floor.

Here are his choices:

- Make guaranteed profit without spending a dime because of revenue sharing and national TV deals/stream deals.

- Jeopardized some of those profits by spending more on the team while you could get the same on-field results hence the same local revenues AND less profit.

From a business standpoint, he is unfortunately making the right decision for his own pockets. Rich owners who want to win are more than happy to let him do that because they can get his superstars when it comes time to pay them (like we all know Skenes will be a Yankee or a Dodger before long). In the NHL, for example, superstars do not move a lot. In the MLB, unless they are developed by the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Cubs and the likes, they do. Heck, even Pujols left St-Louis and they are not a poverty franchise.

As long as the business model works for the owners, and it does, it won't change... because none of them have an incentive to change it.

The criticism of the floor is that teams would just spend lazy contracts on washed up FA but at least that would make the teams competitive

Why should a team be like Oakland whose owner literally spent nothing on the team, let them play in a decrepit park, and basically forced his way out of Oakland? To me that is more dire than two favorites who actually spent for a title to try to win.

Heck the Phillies spent millions on Trea, Bryce and others and haven't done shit  Money doesn't guarantee titles. This isn't the NBA where the Heat basically purchased a dynasty.

Not when you have the kind of money the Dodgers have.

They probably already put the money in escrow and the only reason they did it was to reduce their luxry tax bill and be able to add other players.
Every owner in the league is a billionaire. The fact that some don't want to spend money on their teams is not the Dodgers problem.
