US has the offense to comeback. But they will have to play much tighter D and let the forwards show their skills.

Hutson didn't tie up his man. He was the one at fault. The goalie didn't see it. It's comical how bias some of you can be.

It was both. Augustine definitely needed to have his stick down to protect the 5 hole, but that's a tough play for a young goalie. Price was terrible with his stick when he was young. It drove me nuts until one year he just stopped being bad with it, and he became Vezina caliber. It's a mental/growth thing.

Not the start that Americans wanted that's for sure. Too many giveaways, and cute plays in their own zone early. It could be a bigger score than 2-0 Fins.

They need to clean up their play. They have the skill to come back. Nazar line is the only line that looks good. Gauthier line is invisible, and Smith line is taking low percentage shots when in O-zone. They're not showing patience.

Watching Hutson cements my long-held opinion that he'd get absolutely smoked as a defenseman in the pro's. I hope they seriously explore turning him into a winger. That would take an enormous burden off his shoulders and free him up to concentrate on creating offense with less defensive responsibility. He can always play the point on the pp and plays can also be drawn-up to let him play that rover style where he gets the puck in the neutral zone with speed to work his magic on O zone entries. He's not going to make it as a regular on the blue-line. I just can't picture it.

I hate arguing on hfboards, its pointless but hey

That whole play started with Chesley not wanting to play the puck and hoping Hutson took it, when it was his puck. Then soft play along the boards and behind the net, Hutson not being able to tie the stick (which has NOTHING to do with size but positioning and timing), but above ALL that, Augustine with awful technique. He wasn't being moved side to side, he was squared up to the shot and double screened. He has to make sure he covers the 5 hole under that circunstance, that's basic.

It still should have been stopped.

Haven't paid close attention but posters on the main board said Chesley was terrible. Hutson needs a goo defensive d as his partner.

Chesley has been tentative and basically leaving most of the responsibility to exit the zone, transition, make an outlet pass to Hutson. The second goal today being a classic example. Take responsability my man and that play doesn't even start.

Defensively he has been ok, nothing spectacular.

Big Oof on USA. Not going well. Augustine looks lost too.

Its only one big error on the five holes, its not a mess

Well, I disagree. Hutson kept the play peripheral and push back the play on the blue line. I dont know what he should do better on that play. Its an unfortunate goal on a great tip

It's not just that, IMO. It's pretty obvious he doesn't have good defense IQ. I don't think he thinks the game well at all defensively. Out of position, looks lost. Add to that lack of strength, size and very bad backwards skating/movement, I just can't see it happening for him. If he had just one of those glaring weaknesses, I could see it. But he's seriously lacking in so many aspects with D. Love the kid. Seems like the desire is there. But that can only take you so far if the physical and defensive smarts issues are too big.
