OT: 2024 Washington Commanders thread: change we can believe in!

I feel like it was bantered around here when they rebranded, that it was a diversionary tactic by Snyder to relieve the pressure on him.

I believe that more so after reading how he stomped his feet on the way out, trying to sabotage the sale.

It must be changed, and I believe Harris will do it in a final franchise/soul purging act, someday….hopefully not more than another 2 years.

Still hate the name, still absolutely despise the jerseys. This season changes nothing for me in terms of wanting to keep the name… in fact, if anything, the success of this year makes me want a rebrand ASAP.

I did buy an awesome Commanders sweatshirt this year. First piece of clothing I’ve purchased from the team since 2012-13. Even if I don’t like the name, this sweatshirt was awesome and it was important to me to buy something, almost like a re-investment in the team.

When they went with 'Football Team' - I was not overly excited but thought it was a solid place holder. At this point I would way rather they use Football Team > Commanders.

When I refer to who I cheer for, I just say Washington at this point.

Whether they change the name again or not. My team is called the Redskins. I will root for them but I won’t wear anything called Commanders. It feels dirty and wrong
Yeah, they will always be the Redskins or ‘skins to me. In the rare scenario where some easily offended snowflake who might try to get me fired is within earshot they are just Washington. And the Cleveland baseball team will always be the Indians.

Here is why I think the name will not change.

I've been watching the Redskins since I was a kid in 1990 at the tail end of the Joe Gibbs dynasty teams, so I guess I'm right on the cusp of being old school. Until this season, I hadn't watched a single game for the last 10 years (The Dan Snyder effect). With him gone, it's as if a giant weight has been lifted off this franchise. There's hope again, and a lot of us old fans are returning.

Maybe I'm in the minority as a somewhat old school fan, but I could care less about the name of the team. I never felt fully comfortable with the name Redskins and I'm not sad that it's gone. I understand that there's a lot of history under the old name, but I feel like the name was too problematic to keep. I do, however, miss the old logo and I hope it makes a comeback as an alternate jersey.

At first I thought the name Commanders was kind of lame, but I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore. If there were enough fans who really hated the name, the team would change it again. The problem is that most of the fans who hate the name, will only be happy if it goes back to Redskins, which is a pipe dream, so it doesn't really matter what they think. They are deluding themselves if they think the old name and all of it's problems are coming back.

Without those old school "change it back to Redskins" fans, that only leaves the fans who hate the name Commanders, but don't want it to go back to being the Redskins. That's not a big enough portion of the fan base to inspire the team to make a change. The majority of Washington Fans, are made up of either old school people like me who don't want to go back to the old name or don't really care, and younger fans who weren't around for the glory days and are just fine with the name Commanders.

My final thoughts. Redskins was never a great name, but because of the history of the franchise with it's hall of fame players and championships, it came to have special meaning to us fans. I don't think the name Commanders is a great name either, but under promising new ownership and a young generational Quarterback, maybe they can make some history of their own, and we'll come to feel differently about the name Commanders in a few decades.

For me, its not about wanting the old name back. I understand why it won't be restored, even if I wanted it to. But ditching Commanders for me is about washing the last stink of Dan Snyder out of this franchise, entirely. I feel the way about Dan Snyder and his reign like Sansa felt about Ramsay Bolton.

I read the Seahawks are up against the cap and might deal DK Metcalf. At 6’4 235 lbs, there’s your big, physical receiver. He’s 27, and has one more year at 18M. 3-4 yr extension covers the rest of his prime along with JD’s rookie contract.

This could take as high as our 2nd. That’s not great, but if you’re looking for a WR in this draft, you’re prob not gonna find someone that would be as impactful, and able to immediately help JD.

It's great to have a QB who can run it in from inside the 5, but it's better to have a RB who makes sure you don't have to subject said QB to the risk.
This. Take some of the load off JD's shoulders with an explosive run game that doesn't have him doing everything and putting himself at risk all the time.

BRob is not explosive, he's good for running 2 yards into the middle more times than not. Run game nonexistent unless Daniels takes off.

I saw some Cooper Kupp rumours today. If we are trading draft capital for a WR, I'd much rather Metcalf > Kupp. Slightly younger and as you said offers a physicality that would be great to see in our WR core.
