Agreed, and he might be capable of it, but so few teams actually run that way anymore. That old Power I, HB deep, sometimes with a fan-fave FB leading the way. I miss that -- snapping the ball, handing it off, and the idea seems to be, "It's the O-Line's job to break a hole up front, but so long as they make a crack, we'll smash it loose." Handed the ball in the backfield, it's an immediate sprint, and you get what you get.
These days it feels like everything is disguised, everything is late-developing, everything is an option, and thus there's so few times where a RB is handed the ball and just GOES. There's always some p***y-footing, shuffle-stepping up to the line, looking for something, so they never get any forward momentum going.
So today's bruiser back not only has to be a hard-nosed runner, but he better have superior vision and acceleration or your running game's truly f***ed. I mean seriously, in today's 4th-and-1 world, how many teams actually EVEN TRY to ram it home with a running back?
Maybe I'm just old. Get off my lawn, I guess.
Yeah, those are factors for sure. I'm all for giving him an opportunity to keep his job, but I'd like to see some serious competition in camp.
Absolutely if a good one's available, but I also wouldn't mind paying for a reputable free agent. Feels like we're a serious destination now. But yeah, if there's a BPA RB at one of our spots or we can maneuver for one AP & Co. like, definitely do it.
Lastly, and I'm not trying to bring up the old discussion on this, but the whole Rebranding The Team thing feels iffier now that a Commanders team actually did something legacy-worthy. Anyone else feeling that?
I guess what I'm asking is, for those of you that still wanted the team to rebrand under the new regime, do you still feel that way? Did this year make it feel less necessary or meaningful?
