Someone like Belichick makes more sense for Dallas than Kliff would. Just IMO.

A defensive minded guy who will instill the discipline that teams needs. It would be a “win now” move.

Kliff makes the most sense in Chicago, from where I sit. He knows Caleb, is seemingly a “young QB whisperer”, and they have some good players.

Jacksonville or New Orleans could also make sense for Kliff.

All the other “openings” (say Jets, Giants, Browns, Panthers, Cowboys) have some tough owners to deal with, or are gong shows.

Anyway, my 2 cents

No way….Kliff should stay the F away from that trash heap in Chicago and another undeveloped QB. Kliff might make sense for Chicago, but Chicago doesn’t make the most sense for Kliff.

Going to an established team/roster is the safer move IMO. Dallas can retool that D in the offseason if Jones hasn’t totally lost it…

And this is the THIRD time, in succession, they’ve paired a 1st round QB with a lame duck coach. Everyone who knows the team saw this coming, and said it was idiotic. A coach desperately trying to save his job, is working at cross purposes with long term development of a franchise QB (who shouldn’t fear mistakes and losses - just learn from them).

Ownership is apparently very cheap about firing coaches. Bears fans have every right to be frustrated.

Now Caleb will have to start all over with another OC in his 2nd year. Just like Fields, and Trubisky before him.

I'm not sure Kliff making any HC decision comes down to that perspective. You gotta admit that JD is an exceptionally rare combination of talent, smarts, and dedication. The club is rebuilding damn near perfectly, with upgrades coming from every direction. The coaching staff is top notch and he's clearly being given a ton of leeway.

So I think it's a Ben Johnson type situation. Less about which dysfunctional franchise to gamble on, way more about whether to leave an excellent situation at all, or bide your time, maybe win a championship or two in the interim, make yourself the unquestionable top HC candidate, and don't move until your dream spot opens up.

The only thing that makes me question this logic is that Kliff appears to be a least a little bit douchey. Might be a self-sabotaging level of ego there. So if the battle between his angels and demons goes south, yeah, he might jump to a loser and shoot himself in the foot.

And if that happens, I think we've become such a potential destination -- especially for an OC -- that we'd likely be the choice spot for whatever offensive geniuses are ripening out there.

Agree. I don't think -- from where he was when we signed him -- he's a guy who seems in a hurry to go back to the head spot. Ultimately, he will absolutely be an HC again. But he seems like a guy who's having a ball in his sandbox for now without a pressing need to manage the whole playground. He also knows that he's about to get even more toys/tools to play with before next season.

Perhaps.

I would agree that Kliff seems a little bit Prima Donna type. And I’m sure his ego is part of his “situation” with any team he’s involved in. Especially as he’s doing well.

We will see, but it would not come as any surprise to me, if he bailed after a year.

There is also that age old mindset in the job world — strike while your iron is hot — as OCs/DCs can have their own “star shelf life”, like anyone.

However, as was said earlier, I’m not at all worried about losing any one coach (save Quinn ATM, but he ain’t going anywhere unless things go really south), as replacing any of them will not be hard. It’s a totally different landscape now for the Skins, in that regard.
